- This video is a review of the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team Personal Equipment Vest for use in Search and Rescue. The Vest enables personal equipment to be carried without the need for a Rucksack which leaves the rescuer's back free to carry the team's Rescue Equipment.

WOW - you carry a lot - about a week ago I was cycling along the Monsal Trail 1 evening & I saw some Blue lights ahead & I wonder what was going on (b/c I'd never seen a blue light on the Trail B4!!!) & As I got close there was 2 of your vehicles with about 20 odd of you good folk around some 1 in a stretcher doing a good job - hope every thing went well 🙂🚂🚂🚂

Didn’t even occur to me that you would essentially have to carry 2 rucksacks, total respect to you guys. Couldn’t help wonder what the map was that you had there. Also I was curious to see that you had no food or energy bars/sweets etc, just wondering why that was. Keep them coming, loving this, thank you
Hi thanks for the questions. The map is a a waterproof 1:25,000 scale of the Peak District area, made by Aqua (www.aqua3.com). The Vest in the video had 2 crunchy Oats and Honey energy bars. Our rescues are mostly done in 2 to 3 hours so we don't need to carry much in the way of food. Even on big multi day searches we come back to a resupply point regularly so only need to carry a minimum of food.
@@buxtonmountainrescue1102 I think it would be great if you guys could take the “personal” to a whole new level and be able to carry sweets if you’re out for a long time!

Hi thanks for the comment. No binos in the vest as standard for known location rescue jobs. We do carry them for a search job. There is space in the big chest pocket for a small pair of binos.

Good to see this Rick; things can happen even to the best of us (?) eg a couple of months back I was doing a solo run round the Goyt Valley culminating on Shining Tor. Dropped down to the track leading to C&F when I tripped - result: mild concussion, gashed hand and a black eye. I count myself as experienced but it can happen to anybody and it could have been a lot worse. For years now I have always carried a fully charged mobile, cagoule, bivi bag - all goes in a bum bag. Last but not least I leave a written note to my better half as to my running route. Now need to get a GPS tracker!
Ouch! Glad you made it back OK. Your preparation for fell running is just what is needed. Your Smart Phone with GPS can be tracked by Mary on her phone, no need to get a separate GPS tracker.
Them Shears looked like x Shears as the leatherman raptors are quite different

Hi thanks for the comment. Yes, they are X Shear's (www.xshear.com) very good. The main benefit over ordinary cutting scissors is they stay sharp.
Is storing a compass next to metal objects (multi-tool) running the risk of effecting the compass? Great work as always
Hi, thanks for the message. Interesting question. The compass is stored in that pouch for connivence. In use it would be in the hand and out of the pouch. So it would be about 0.60 of a meter away from the multi tool when is use. The question is whether 0.60m meters away is enough to affect compass performance?

Hi yes, Lundhags make the Authentic Pant, available in red/black which are the ones in the video. Another good choice is the Revolution Race Nordwand pant available in red/black. Both are used by SAR operatives.

No spare clothing or blizzard vest?
Hi, great question. The answer is no not on the basic vest. We do add extra pouches to the belt which allows additional clothing and equipment to be carried, for example in winter. On the table in the video were 2 x black pouches which I carry as needed depending on the weather and how far from the road the rescue is.
