      I am guessing that 30% of our gear is for a patient - extra food, clothes, shelter, medical, etc.

    i do not understand having so much fire starter and so many knives and so little food, you cant stay out for more then 3 days on that food before you start becoming a liability, that is my only big negative, . why not swap some of that gear weight over to other things, a colored smoke marker might be useful, maybe a bit more climbing gear in case you need to get to a sketchy spot, or out of one. might be the 3rd backup weight could better serve you and whole knew capability weight

    Are you required to purchase all of the first aid supplies to use on patients or does the SAR team/sheriff dept have a large team kit that they supply for you?

    Much appreciated. I just purchased a hill people gear sar kit bag and am looking for an essentials list to accompany my hiking and bushcrafting packs.
    I am curious to know what are your most useful and essential medical items that you carry. I want a couple cat tourniquets and chest seals and pray I never need them.

    Great breakdown of what you carry. How do you stop your flagging tape from unspooling?
    Nate

    • @SurvivalU
      @SurvivalU  2 роки тому +4

      Wyatt, our unit's gear guru, replied with this: "Heat up a nail with a flame, holding onto it with pliers. Then press the hot nail across the side of the tape roll. The heat will melt it, causing it to hold in place. Don’t apply too much heat/melt or it will be too difficult to remove."

    I want to get into sole SAR job but the state that I live in California have their SAR department attached with law enforcement. In order to get paid for doing SAR I would have to be law enforcement.
    Does all SAR team members need to be EMT certified or just basic first aid and cpr?

    • @SurvivalU

      Good comment :-). The funny thing is that a lot of the food, shelter, and clothing items are meant for a patient(s). Should we need to stay overnight, we can keep people calm and warm.
