Do you love outdoor entertaining, but have a small deck? Fear not - with minimal work, even the teeniest of backyard areas can become party-worthy retreats. In this episode of The Home Primp, Chatelaine Home Editor Alexandra Gater turns a small outdoor space into the perfect entertaining spot.
The Challenge:
Wanting to maximize their yard space, the homeowners tore down a back mudroom, and put in a small deck. They wanted a place to have coffee in the mornings and a space for their two boys to play. And since they have a yard with an outdoor dining set (that was too big to fit on the deck itself), Gater thought this would be a great place to serve food and drinks when the couple was hosting dinner parties.
How we primped it:
After giving the brick a much-needed coat of paint, Gater was left with a beautiful modern space to work with. A double-duty bench, art wall for the boys and bar cart (that can be used inside, too!) create the perfect functional outdoor space. Bistro lights and an outdoor rug make it extra cozy. And the best part? The key to making an outdoor space feel warm and inviting is to bring out things you use indoors! Layer in throw blankets and lots of lanterns.

I don't think a black wall in a small space ever makes sense ...even when you are out side. Plus, black? Oh,...just horrible. Accent walls are almost never the main wall in a room...unless your room is large.

This was cute..Folded chairs would have been good out there, or a small serving table or a outdoor kitchen set up so many great ideas can been done in that space, loved the lights & contrasting wall, I would love to see you do something for someone from thrift stores & consiment shops.. I'm not sure if you've done this already, I'm new to your channel..

What I don't get is your videos always promise a low budget but then you're constantly adding items you already have. Seems misleading.
I find this criticism disingenuous. Part of the principle of doing doing budget-friendly home makeovers is either reusing or repurposing what you already own. That way you can spend the money on things you don’t have or truly unique items.
I like these videos but I still feel compelled to write negative comments.

Sooooooo two people can sit down? Because you would have to be really comfortable with someone to sit shoved up against them like that on top of a chest.
so many people complain about the logistics of this series ("using things you already own isn't fair" you too can do this though...as do many other diy series; "why did you splurg on X and not Y"/general critiques about the budget, which are fair at times but also - this a lil bougie magazine where most of the houses redecorated are in the downtown area of a major city, clearly their concept of budget is a little different) but continue to watch multiple videos in it anyway? you wanna critique questionable things, sure fine but critiquing this as if it's the only "low" budget home decor videos/ there aren't a plethora of other affordable diy/home decor youtubes is annoying. youtube has passed the days of being aimed at being accessible/tutorial-like. now this is just a 5 minutes hgtv episode and that's fine. this seems to be more so for inspiration than imitation anyway

“ if you have indoor plants bring them inside” they are called indoor plants for a reason. maybe get outdoor plants if you want outdoor plants.
