- Do you have a corner (or, let’s face it - a room) in your house that’s reserved for things you just don’t have anywhere else to store? We’re here to help. In this week’s Home Primp, we collaborated with lifestyle vlogger Elle Lindquist whose loft space was a cluttered dumping ground without any real function. She wanted a space where her family could kick back and relax and also double as a place for guests to stay overnight. After getting rid of the pool and foosball table, there was such a bright, open space for us to work with. We set out to create a living room/guest room/playroom hybrid.
Using removable wallpaper, Alexandra created an accent wall. She also hung a mantle that belonged to Elle’s dad, which instantly made the space feel more like a living room.
And can we talk about that couch?! This brought the primp’s cost up but for a couch that folds down into a double bed for guests, $400 is a pretty sweet deal.
Alexandra used an Ikea bookshelf as a window seat and storage unit in the boys’ play area. She turned fabric plant pots (!) that cost $4 embellished with pom poms (what else) into baskets to organize their toys.
The result? A few key items turned this storage space into a beautiful, bright and airy living room - for under $1000.

So glad Elle has finally got the loft she wanted and not just a messy man cave! But I swear they already got a very similar couch-bed from Canadian tire after the flood so why didn’t they just use that as they are so similar?! Xxx

Nice spaxe but you could have done it for less than $100 if you searched at thrift stores and garage sales. I’m glad you used some things that were already there, and i appreciate the curtain separating dan’s space. But if i had $1000 lying around well, it would go much further than 1 room. What happened to the couch bed canadian tire gave you after the flood? Anyway, great ideas but for those on smaller budgets, we can mimic them for much cheaper. Thanks.

You could have gotten a couch like that secondhand on Facebook marketplace for $700
Chatelaine hey, yes, my biggest tip is patience! I use sites like freecycle.org, Craigslist and Facebook marketplace. You can go to habitat for humanity’s physical store called ReStore and I know they have those in Canada. And just ask around. Watch for “curb alerts” on Facebook groups and go to community garage sales. I’m not very picky about scratches and debts bc with 4 kids, there will be more. I got this gorgeous writers desk with a roll top and huge drawers for $50 last year in prime condition. Those things sell for like $500 or more. And I do my shopping from home mostly, so I don’t see many bargains in store. My other tip is just to be flexible with what style of furniture you want if you are going to be thrifty. I have preferences, but am willing to have my mind changed if I see something. I hardly buy anything brand new. I’m a homeschooling mom, and don’t bring in any income so we have learned to live within a budget most wouldn’t even try. It’s just our reality. I’d rather spend $500 on field trips through the year than on a new couch. What you put together is lovely and somewhat thrifty. I would buy cheaper picture frames at Walmart or meijer for example instead of going to Michaels or hobby lobby. I hope the boys are enjoying their new space though. And again, I love how Dans stuff is cornered off and Elle can’t see how disorganized it is. The man needs his own space sometimes to suit his personality. I’m glad you had fun putting it together. It annoys me that they don’t include everything they purchase. That dresser cost $300+ and that is not so budget friendly so they just take it out
I understand that as well but most families do no have an extra dresser just hang out without a proper home. This family didn’t

Is this sofa comfortable? I think one has to be on a budget but I think that the sofa is the most important thing in this space if you have a family. I love your videos but this is a matter that I'm concerned 🤔

To style a room: buy all the same type of accessories at HomeGoods, print off the same kind of art, use gray and pink, rinse & repeat.
It would be cool to see different styles instead of just the Tumblr chic stuff.

Not including the dresser in the price doesn't make much sense to me but I get the idea behind it. I like the final look but I'd be afraid of the boys standing on that pouf and climbing onto that half wall which I assume is a steep drop over the stairs?
CCBeanzzz I didn’t understand that, either. I thought perhaps it was owned by the Linquist family, but watching further I thought not. So, I still don’t get it. (My son has his TV on the dresser in his living room! I guess he’s quite trendy!! 😊😉)

I don't know. I watched several makeover videos on this channel and none of them is really good. Why pink? Do pink, green and yellow really work together? Well, not in this case. Couch doesn't look comfy and those throw pillows... They don't match at all. You should mountain The curtains a little higher so the window looks bigger. I also have a question about the floor lamp. There's no sitting area near the lamp,so why bother yourself buying it? Why didn't you place it by the couch? It's not functional. The whole design looks weird and cheap, and it's for 1000$. If I paid for it I would ask my money back.
