Interesting comparison. The Air 3 S appears to have the sharpness dialed up quite a bit whereas the Classic looks fairly subdued by comparison. I do have a Sony Camcorder with a 1" sensor and I love the quality. It's 20 mega pixel sensor records over-sampled and then converts down to 4K for fantastic resolution without having to dial up the sharpness. I suspect that recording at 5.1K and converting it to 4K (I use Handbrake) may give a higher quality result. Same with my Galaxy S23 Ultra cell phone. Recording at 8K and converting down to 4K is far superior to just recording in 4K.
Thanks for the video. The "native" resolution of the Air 3S is 12MP while the Mavic is 20MP. While resolution isn't everything, any follow-up comments in this regard? Also, noticed the ND filter number was much greater on your videos of the Air 3S compared to the Mavic Classic; please explain. Thanks...
Are you doing Air 3 vs 3S? Do you think there are differences in photo mode - sharpness, detail, dynamic range, noise? Because Air 3 or my unit at least has softness issues with the 24mm cam and some people say the 3S is all around sharp not just in the middle
I will be. Unfortunately I no longer have an Air 3, so I can't do a "side-by-side" comparison like this video does. But I shot and filmed all of my Air 3 stuff in Auto Settings, so we'll do a comparison between those drones with the media I captured back then and media I capture now.
Its hard to tell which is truly "better" but the warmth of the video made it a bit more difficult to tell. I do think the Mavic has better color reproduction / separation. For example the lake water color but Its actually surprinting how different they look tbh. Air 3S Trees do look great. They both are fantastic though... Only certain conclusion i can draw is you can't beat the Air 3S value right now. I would love to see the Air 3 vs 3S too.

I am hoping the fixed the jumping dronevwe get on Air 3S when SOME damn thing happens with the Lidar/Optical avoidance system. It's pretty awful. Looks like a low-rider hopping for joy! DJI fixed it, along with a plethora of nasty bugs in Mavic 3's first 6-9 months. Fun times, not!
There is one thing I have to correct you on. If you record videos in 5.1K resolution with the Mavic 3's and then export that to 4K and put it together to a video, then guess what? You will still get more data / quality in the 5.1K video exported to a 4K video over video recording it all in 4K and export it to 4K. So, the quality will ALWAYS be better from the Mavic 3's. And if you are doing professional work on top of it all, that extra data / quality matters.
If you’re doing work for a major Hollywood production, I’d agree with you. The vast majority of the content collected by drones in this category are not going to be seen on screens larger than maybe a television. Getting hung up on the difference between 4K and 5K is silly when most of the media captured by these drones will largely be compressed to hell and viewed on small screens. We aren’t anti-hi-res, but people getting upset because we aren’t comparing the Mavic 3’s 5.1K to the Air 3S’s 4K is a little wild to us when you consider the way these drones will be used. Resolution matters, but not enough to riot over…not in this case.
I’m so torn on the mavic 3 pro and air 3s ….. I it’s the price gap that has me hesitant on buying a mavic 3 pro. Not sure if you bit the bullet but the mavic 4 release is coming any day now. DJI has been dropping bangers all year and it''s last banger will most certainly be a mavic 4 this xmas. Patent office already has been filed months ago and everything is pointing towards a christmas release. I was holding out for a mini 5 pro but that will never happen so I might get a mini 4 pro i'm just waiting for the price to drop to $750.
Colors are way off on the air 3s - everything looks purple. I don’t know if you guys changed your mind after watching the footage on a bigger screen, but I don’t know how one can look at the results that you’ve got and say - 17:07 - mavic’s image quality is definitely better
Mavic still has a great image quality, but in these conditions with camera settings near-identical, the Air 3S looks better to us. Temperature and tint can be addressed in post fairly easily, so that's a non-issue really. That said we weren't expecting the Air 3S to be so much warmer than the Mavic 3, so that came as a surprise -- especially since I liked the temperature balance on the Mavic 3. I'll be doing another video on JUST the Air 3S where I play with the settings a bit more to dial them in a bit more.

Ok im sorry but your resolution argument doesn’t make any sense because of two factors. First, resolution absolutely matters when it comes to video bitrate which on the Air3s 130mbps compared to 200 mbps on the mavic 3 series. That equates to better video quality hands down on top of having a bigger sensor on the mavic 3 series. Second, if your posting reels/shorts/tiktoks on social media you want to go with the highest resolution possible so that you can crop in, zoom , etc. to give you a sensational vertical. The Air3s only gives 2.7K resolution on vertical video while the mini 4 gives you true 4K quality without having to edit. Now outside of that , give me a mavic 3 with 5.1k resolution and I crop it into something more than what the mini 4 offers it’s a no brainer. My last point is if DJI was able to do that with an air3s, just imagine the mavic 4 with a 4/3 sensor and variable aperture 😮
I disagree because the perspective you're sharing, while admirable and valid, fails to really step back and look at things how they were meant to be seen. We all get so bogged down in the "on-paper" specs and we forget the most important part of multimedia production is not whether or not the source file is 4K or 6K or 8K nor whether it had a bitrate of 130mbps or 200mbps...it's how it looks in a finished product. No doubt sensor size and bitrate differentials keep this close. But when you boil it down to this 4K vs. that 4K, that's what matters. What has the best look right off of the camera. Even with a smaller sensor (larger for the telephoto, of course), the Air 3S is a step up from the Mavic 3 when it comes to simplification of multimedia output. Plain and simple. I used to fall victim to believing if I wasn't shooting in log with the biggest sensors and the fastest processors that I was never going to be able to create anything professionally and aesthetically pleasing. I've only seen my quality of work increase after letting go of that concept and allowing the technology in my hands do what it was built to do best. All that to say, I appreciate yours and others perspectives on this. I don't think you're totally wrong in your assertions, but I think for platforms like these getting bogged down in the specsheet is a mistake. Do I plan to believe 2 things, or are you lying or does Dji need to answer for this crime? It's not just me, there are a lot of people upset by these UA-camrs who sometimes lie.@@TheDroneGeek
Why would I lie? I spent my own money on the drone. DJI has not ever contacted me about doing a review on ANY of their products. I literally have no motivation to lie to you. The Air 3S has a better quality image in my opinion. Whatever processing components they integrated into the drone are extremely efficient and put out an image I prefer to the Mavic 3's. It's that simple.
18:28 Yes you very much do notice a HUGE difference in image sharpness (or softness) comparing images f 1.8 of air 3s vs mavic 3 f6-8! also 12mp vs 20mp. Still mavic 3 for pro fotos!. air 3s for semi-pro videos and fun fotos, or stich a panorama with the tele and the f2.8, makes a world difference and ends up beeing a pro for fotos!
I appreciate your input. I just have one question -- how does one define "pro photos?" I, quite literally, just used the Air 3S this weekend for a professional client and they were ecstatic about the quality of the photos and videos. I was financially compensated for them (a market-standard full-day rate to boot). By definition, because I utilized the Air 3S for a Part 107 project and the client was elated with the results and paid me for them, the Air 3S puts out professional quality photos and videos. Sure, I'd probably opt for a different drone for something like a NatGeo project or a live broadcast from the NFL/NBA/MLB/etc., but I'd need more than what the Mavic 3 can provide in that case...so you're automatically looking at something like an Inspire 3 in that use-case. The fact is, if you're capturing digital multimedia for a client who will largely display it on a smaller screen format (think ~32" or smaller), the Air 3S is going to be a great option. We like the Air 3S better than the Mavic 3 in daylight conditions. The internal processing is better, despite having a smaller sensor and lower MP count. It gets the job done and we're very pleased with it.
'Pro photos' is referred to photos that can be used in an professional marketing use environment. May this be for prints in magazines or books, Billboards of 30x6m for example. For social media only, you may get away with 12mp sensor still (the quad-bayer 50mp images are marginal more detailed), that might be still acceptable. I still prefer to have a true 20mp sensor like air 2s (btw still impressive foto quality!) or the Mavic 3's. Or you can stich the 70mm images to a monster-panorama with a resolution of 10k x 40k. There is absolutely no more advanced way to get those kind of panoramas (air 3, air 3s and M3p make it possible). Just need the right rig for post production.
Adjustable aperture vs fixed aperture...f/2.8 vs f/1.8...it wasn't a perfect comparison, but if you're going to split hairs like that maybe consider donating to my page so I can put 12 hours into a video for you.
I think the Mavic 3 has more flexibility in its capabilities but underachieves when compared to the Air 3S. The Air 3S does more with less and that's an important note to make when looking at these drones next to each other.
Good honest review 👏 just seen mavic 3 classic for "used" £1.000 but I'm thinking of buying Air 3s you answered my question lol.. keep up the good work UK viewed 🎉
The footage from the Air3s is processed by the AI Tech in order to come close to the Mavic. Meanwhile the Mavic footage is raw. All I am saying is professional’s know the Mavic is superior. Also I own the Air3s , I am just not a sheep like the rest of the community
A professional also knows that time is money - raw, flexible footage is great, but if I have ready-to-use or minimal-production-needed footage from a drone that does a lot of the lifting for me, that’s less time I spend in the editing room on what will usually be a piece of b-roll that might be on-screen for 3-5 seconds at a time maximum.

ND8 vs ND32...
Adjustable aperture vs fixed aperture...f/2.8 vs f/1.8...it wasn't a perfect comparison, but if you're going to split hairs like that maybe consider donating to my page so I can put 12 hours into a video for you.
I just realized my FPV brain kept saying KV instead of K for color temperature 😅
K = Kelvin. There is also a "V" in the word "Kelvin." You're good.
I think the air3 looks better. And for the ones that say the Mavic looks better well it’s suppose to be better. Is more money for that reason.
Thanks for the information, we appreciate it 👍👍👍
The footage from the Air3s is processed by the AI Tech in order to come close to the Mavic.
Hard to compare with different shots from each drone.
Tell everyone you didn’t pay attention to the video without telling us you didn’t pay attention to the video…
Different shots?? You saw this UA-cam movie??
@@TheDroneGeek In a 20 min video only 1 side by side shot that can really compare. 80% of time just talking.
You can tell everyone you don't like criticism...
God forbid you scrub through the video and see which one is better. How can you possibly get the full effect when you crop the image down to half the frame? You’ll live.
Just keep the classic, def not worth it.
I do not agree I will sell my M3C and keep my A3S.
