Tech Specialist and Leader All Choice Dialogue | Mass Effect 2 Suicide Mission

- If you are like me, you have often wondered what the dialogue is for the uncommon choices during the suicide mission. This video shows all of the potential dialogue choices for all of the Tech Specialist and Second Fire Team Leader choices. I am only posting the planning done on the Normandy in this video. I have recorded the dialogue for the Biotic Specialist, Leader, and Escort while in the Collector Base as well, but the difference in dialogue is minimal for those. If this video is well received I will post that as well, so like and comment if you would like that video.
Time Stamps:

2:25 - Fire Team Leader

*Zaeed is chosen as Team leader 2*
Miranda : "Well, at least he knows what he's doing"
Narrator: "He doesn't"
@Algernon Papadopoulosat first I was like you. But then I remembered his loyalty mission where he's fine with dozens burning alive just for his own goals.
Zaeed gets the job done no matter the cost. So it's still coherent with the character.
@Algernon Papadopoulos yes he survived multiple times against all odds... Alone. In all of his stories he is the sole survivor.
It is heavily implied that he usually only cares about himself.
Also, not being in control of his emotion does not pair with being a leader.
Garrus is also blinded by revenge and almost only lives to kill Sidonis. When comes the time to do the deed, if given the chance, he changes his mind by seing what Sidonis became. Garrus keeps his head cool and puts away his own emotions so he can connect to Sidonis. This makes him an amazing leader.
Zaeed doesn't come close to this.
@Algernon Papadopoulos The simple fact the blue suns turned their back on him just for money shows that he wasn't a good leader.
All of his missions end up with him being the only one surviving when he's in charge. It's a pattern. He's a good soldier, not a leader.
He makes your team stronger when left behind to defend. But gets your team killed when in charge. Makes sense to me.
And Zaeed and Garrus only have in common to be good soldiers. They are nothing alike.
@Algernon Papadopoulos He's a veteran for his own's sake.
I too took him in consideration to lead or help crew return safely to Normandy, but then I've thought "wait, this dude, if the shit goes high, would just abandon everyone and save his ass" 🤣
Not gonna talk about lore stuff, but there's actually content in the game files showing that--at some point in development--Zaeed was going to be a successful choice for Fire Team leader. IIRC the fire team leader choice would have been different for both segments, so Zaeed would be a good choice for the first segment (with the vents) but not for the second (the long walk). Grunt would have actually been the other way around.
Lot of stuff was changed for the final mission. Would've been interesting to see what could've been.
I love how they're all like "we'll try our best in the vents Shepard" apart from Legion, who takes the time check it's gun, then pose with it before effectively saying "sure."
What a fucking legend.
Your comment made my day
It says in his profile that he's utterly fearless.
That is ironically terrifying. To face an opponent with absolutely no fear what so ever. Not even on a subconscious level.
That takes fucking legendary grit.
@@randomassname445 He's a Geth, he knows what fear is but doesn't really feel it, so he's literally fearless.
Legion is the best choice because he is a geth so he isnt going to be bothered by the hot temperature in there

Shepard: "Space Hampster, You're in charge of the second team."
Hampster: "....squeak"
Miranda: "You have got to be kidding me..."
Garrus shaking his head no at 2:39 when jack says no one wants to take orders from you, is one of my favorite parts of this game
Garrus delivers the line if Jack gets killed if you don't have the proper ship upgrade.
He says "I don't want you leading the second squad, half of us don't even trust you."
@@bernietea didn’t know that. That’s awesome!
@@bernietea
I always get ALL the upgrades, except my first time...
Never again.
When Garrus says he'll do his best in the vent I cry a little
"Garrus, you'll go through the vents. Tali, you'll lead the second fire team."
"Commander, don't you mean the other way a- "
"DO YOU QUESTION MY DECISION?!"
"No, Commander, Sir!" 😭😭
His best wasn’t enough
My boy Garrus is a natural born leader.
He's practically Shepard's protege, all trilogy long.
He's a natural born smartass
_"Someone who commands loyalty through experience,"_ she advised.
And THAT is why Zaeed was a poor choice. His entire origin story is about him failing to command the loyalty of the Blue Suns! Zaeed's a lone wolf, not a leader.
All of his stories start with "So me and the boys go on this mission..." and end with "...Only I survived."
Anyone who picked Zaeed deserved to lose a squadmate.
@@ItamarO93I picked him for a different team and only he died
He does fine the first time.
Funny thing is in the cut content he had a special line "Suppressive fire, if anything moves, kill it."
2:38 I like how Garrus shook his head because he agreed with Jack
To me it was more like "not this sh*t again..."
Maybe
Jack's right. Who in the world would want to trust Miranda? Loyalty through experience, thats a job for Shepard's turian boy Garrus
Well I would still trust her more than someone like Jack, good thing that psycho was left behind without doing her loyalty on my first playthrough.
@@Tacticaviator7 HAHAHAH OWNED.
The sad thing is that this means Ginger Jack is dead with this...
Garrus is, with no doubt, the best option for the second team leader.
He already leaded a team in Omega. If it wasn't because one of his crew betrayal him, his squad would be alive and probably, well skilled to help Sheppard on his mission.
@@mainikez019 one of your crew betraying you which led to the whole crew dying doesnt look good in your leadership resume. Not sure how is that different from Vido betraying Zaeed. But somehow Garrus is fit to lead people and Zaeed isn't
@@hoarder1919 I find it funny how Zaeed was a dlc character but he couldn’t do any task in the suicide mission
After all the lines of Garrus not trusting his ability to command after his team got killed, and he does a badass head nod when chosen to lead. I tear up every time I see it.
I’ve been waiting years for someone to post a dialogue compilation on this 😂 Miranda’s critique on Samara is really interesting considering that she mostly travels alone; Samara even looks shocked she’s chosen. Miranda’s comment on Jack is hilarious 🤣 and her opinion on Legion was unexpected, thought she’d be against a synthetic leader since she went off at Joker for unshackling EDI; very interesting
Shepard: Samara, you're in charge of the second team.
Samara: *Thousand yard stare*
@@hiperson641 Thousand year stare
I thought Samara would be good considering she has a lot of experience. But she did travel alone a lot so maybe that's why choosing her is not the best.
@@groundsiamang3700 A lot of experience at being a lone wolf, just like Zaeed. And that's why both of them are wrong choices, regardless of what Miranda says.
@@CognizantCheddar It is worth noting that Miranda's not nearly as good a judge of character as she believes herself to be. She makes *several* bad calls on the suitability of certain people for certain tasks; such as her complimenting the choice of Samara or Zaeed as fire team leader, or suggesting that any Biotic could handle the Bubble duty.
Not to mention her complete misjudging of Niket.
“Grunt.”
“What?”
“I’m sending you through the vent.”
“…no.”
“Come on, think of the irony.”
“Yes that’s what wins battles, Irony.

Miranda: I'll lead the second team.
Jack: Not so fast, bitch.
Miranda: This isn't a popularity contest.
*Shepard picks Jack*
Miranda: Oh you've got to be kidding me
Fuckin lol
if Jack killed by this time - Garrus will say to Miranda "I don't want you leading the second squad, half of us don't even trust you.". Very rare
Damn, that Garrus headnod at 4:05 speaks volumes.
shep: grunt u lead the second team
grunt : tells everyone to headbutt and kick collectors
Miranda reaction to Thane, Jack and Kasumi as leader is killing me🤣
“You’ve got to be kidding me” lmfao
Seasoned with that can’t-stop-smiling face, I’d pick Jack intentionally just for this reaction.
Bruh when u chose jack as the leader and mirandas comment had me dying 😂😂😂
I loved how if you noticed through the game, you can pick up notions on how well they could be in these positions.
I chose poorly my first go around.
Yeah there is *no* way I can pick anyone but Garrus for team 2. He's already led people in battle with diverse personalities and skills thanks to his team on Omega. Dude has enough trust in you to openly follow you with no hesitation while working with anti-alien terrorists. The dude also has a bit of an inferiority complex to Shepard so this is my Shep's way of picking him up and dusting him off while telling him "don't worry. You're a badass. You got this bro."
Awesome video! Miranda's commentary on Tali and Jack were quite interesting. Can't wait for the other ones!
Thank you! I also found her thoughts on Samara interesting as well as I wasn’t expecting that from her.
Thank you for doing this video. I was checking to see what happened if you chose Jack as the fire team leader - was hoping Shepard would say something like "All right then, Jack, you do it," but Miranda's response is still good.
2:22 total badass moment ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I’m honestly shocked that Miranda has a unique comment on Kasumi. Is this the only time a crewmate other than Joker comments on a DLC character?
Kelly comments on DLC characters too, actually.
Huh. You're right! Interesting.
I think it's because lines were recorded before the game was released, since it's most likely that Kausmi was originally meant to be there from release but got cut out and released later as DLC, cause EA
Miranda: Uh, I don't think Kasumi is a good leader...
Everyone: WOW HOLY SHIT HAS SHE ALWAYS BEEN THERE
If you bring Zaeed along on missions, he has idle chats with some of your crew mates. For example Jack asks Zaeed on Omega if Zaeed has caught her before and says he looks familiar. Zaeed replies with “Woman, if i’ve caught you, you’d have remembered.”
Thanks for posting this, I always wondered what the alternate dialogue was.
I've always picked tali as tech, samara shield, garrus second team, mordin escort
Always figured Jack was the obvious choice for the shield. Why else was she recruited, if not for that sort of job?
Samara is described as being _almost_ as biotically potent as a Matriarch. I remember being surprised that Samara could handle the shield.
Same except Legion for tech. Unless I want someone killed.
@@matro2 "Someone"... I couldn't possibly imagine who would be...
I pick Jack for the shield.
It gives you unique dialogue in 3 if you do.
Same for Tali if you send her into the vents.
The dialogues of shepard choose Tech specialist for Mordin,Garrus and Jacob definitely death flag to me.
That’s exactly what I thought too 😭😭
Grunt just flexing muscles when he is chosen
Kaumi is always my tech specialist to go into the shaft. Her hacking expertise combined with her ninja infiltration on her loyalty mission had me sold and i knew i would pick her over Tali and Legion
This is awesome and I thank you for it.
God I love Miranda as a romance but she REALLY likes to butt in when it's not wanted. Haha
Haha I definitely have a love-hate relationship with her as well. Sometimes she can be very obnoxious with her underhanded comments
If someone doesnt want their second in command to question their opinion when its completely stupid like sending Tali as the leader of the team, that person is a bad leader. Its not like she is sabotaging the whole mission. SHe just voices her, very well founded, concern about the capability of the person sent to do the task.
@@Dark_Voice You’re right 😔😔 I’m just biased because of Tali. But for real though I do agree with you. I like that it’s there because it not only makes her a good second in command, but also a sense of reason to some questionable decisions. However her comments on Jack was what I was referring to because it seemed to be more based on emotion and a grudge rather than a reasonable complaint.
@@TheProdigy-xb7bs Btw, Im biased as well here. I dont particularly like Tali and the more I play the more I dislike her. I mean, she is still one of the better characters BUT after she forced me to lie about her father, I just lost respect and Tali lost the loyalty of my Shepard.
Hehehe... Butt
Huh... as many times as I've done this mission I have not heard most of this dialogue. I always instinctively send main man garrus as second team leader. My infiltrator varies from tali, kasumi, and legion.
You can't send grunt in the shaft? I thought that would've been hilarious
When I first played ME2, I picked Thane for the vent mission. I thought it was more important to have someone stealthy rather than necessarily a tech specialist. Both Shepard and Thane agree that Thane's good at infiltration missions, and Thane even makes a comment during the mission itself that he finds it a little comfortable in there, so I thought I had made the right decision.
I did not make the right decision ;_;
Remember bioware always gives hints, Jacobs the true person to put through the tunnel. ;)
I imagine legion is the best for that, but I picked Tali and she died because I exposed what her father did in court. I thought it was the only way to help her at the time
I did the same thing lol
Picking Jack is probably the best troll you could throw at Miranda
Always choose Tali for Among Us, I mean crawling ducts, and Jack as shielder, as they will have lines for it in ME 3
Always the vents. Why is it always the vents?
I knew about Jack, but When did Tali comment on beeing sent into the vents?
Also, AMOGUS Caught me completely off guard there😂
@@inserisciunnome when meeting Shep Quarian meeting on the ship, I think when talking to her at the desk before entering CIC room
@@inserisciunnome Yeah I've been using Kasumi and Legion for some other time too but then I saw "this mark" in save editor so I use Tali then, and yes, she mentioned about being amogus
@@inserisciunnome Geth dreadnought in ME3.
It's weird that Miranda comments on Tali's team being wiped out, but not Garrus'. The judgement is generally true, of course. Tali isn't a leader who commands loyalty, this was proven on Freedom's Progress, where her entire team effectively mutinied and got themselves killed. Garrus' team on the other hand was killed because of a combined assault from 3 merc organizations while Garrus was lured away by a traitor. I do think it's odd however that she considers Zaeed a good choice despite him primarily operating solo as a Merc for hire. What loyalty and trust would anyone have with Zaeed?
This section sure knows how to misdirect.
@@williamkerfoot8039 I wouldn't call it misdirecting, it's just strangely poor criticism for making the obviously bad decision. If you think this is misdirection, might I point you to the Escort/Hold The Line section where the game tells you that if you don't send someone to protect the Normandy Crew, they'll all die, implying you should send someone who's good at fighting or can take a hit. What the game doesn't tell you is literally ANYONE is sufficient at this task with no casualties, but if you pick a strong fighter, Mordin dies in the Hold The Line segment. The reason this is awful is because the mechanics that determine who dies in that segment are completely hidden from the player and are completely unique to that one decision in the entire franchise
Eh, Garrus was betrayed, totally different situation.
Thank you for making this video.
I sent Garrus into the vent my first playthrough, he had tech powers in me1 so I though he would be able to slice the door.
I picked Legion as tech specialist, I did his loyalty mission just before the suicide mission, so I barely knew him, I didn't want to risk send Tali or Kasumi so the Geth went. It turned out alright.
Garrus was the leader of the second team because I trusted him.
Samara dealt with the kinetic barrier
I send Zaeed to escort the Normandy's crew
Thane and Miranda fought the Human Reaper with Shepard.
Jack youre leader
Mir: “ got to be kidding me”
😂😂😂
Chose Zaeed as Fireteam lead since ya know combat veteran, experienced merc for decades... hoh boy was I wrong!
If you pay attention to the little details of each character, you can tend to identify which characters can do which role best.
For example, in many of Zaeed's stories, his leadership often results in at least one or more of his squadmates getting killed, making him a bad choice to command a fireteam, but his combat experience means he makes a great last line of defence.
Mordin also reveals he is bad as being a last-line character since he prefers to finish ops quickly instead of holding a line of defence.
@@legoferrari14 You don't even need to read that closely into it with Zaeed -- his backstory is explicitly about him failing to inspire loyalty as a leader of the merc band he founded.
@@CognizantCheddar Counterpoint: Sidonis sold Garrus' merc-group out on Omega, getting all the rest of Garrus' men killed and forcing him to become the solo vigilante Archangel.
I mean the fact he's a mercenary say's it all, guys out for themselves aren't leadership material. They're just psycho/sociopathic enough to do the cruel shit without care. See his loyalty mission for example case A
Such a great game. I played it twice years ago but gonna play one more time. Basically an interactive tv show
I like how if you pick Garrus as the fire team leader, there's that little moment between Shepard and Garrus with that nod. Like, unspoken, between them, they both know what this means for Garrus: a second chance to make up for Omega.
This game is top 3 on my all time list. Nothing will beat the feelings on my first playthrough tho. I lost 2 people (Jack and Thane) can't believe it's been 12 years.
I really wish you could send grunt to do this, that'd be hilarious
I'm glad I'm not the only one who gave my ME2 Shep's armor Cerberus colours
Please tell me that armor isent modded
It's DOPE AF
What are the color combinations
This was from last gen version of ME2 and I believe the colors were a bit darker in that version. I was never able to recreate it in legendary edition sadly.
3:54 ummm Thats not Kasumi Shepard
3:39 this part always cracks me up from Miranda’s reaction 😅
3:43 I’ve never considered this as an option and now I think I’ll have to pick it every time, lmao
I think Zaeed should be able to lead the second team tbh. But I'm glad Garrus is able to. Having him lead that team also works for his character arc.
To be fair, Zaeed lost the Blue Suns because nobody was loyal enough to stop Vido from removing him of his position. And the years since that have not been good to his sanity (as shown by his Loyalty Mission).
Garrus lead a group almost as diverse as Shepard's and only lost them because Mercs forced Sidonis to betray him. The guy didn't even want to do it and lost the will to live after that.
@@farseeraradrel4808 Zaeed was betrayed because he was against the Suns getting into the Batarian slave trade. More money, but sometimes money isn't worth your soul. He was deadlocked on Vido in that mission because he had taken everything from him and left him with a bullet in the head.
When he saw Vido, he saw his chance to put those demons to rest. Damn anyone who gets in his way. Take the personal ties out of it, and you have a soldier who's led men into battle, has decades of experience under his belt, and founded one of the biggest mercenary organizations to ever exist.
Compare that to Jacob, who is another viable leader who... did stuff. He was a corsair, whatever that is. He saved the Citadel once, I guess.
Garrus is perfect in that role, and Miranda makes sense, but Zaeed would be cool as shit as an option.

It's kind of funny in a way. How Shepard comments on the Tech Specialists' qualifications, or how Miranda responds to your choice of Fire Team Leader are meant to clue you in on who's suitable and who's not. If she's critical of your choices and you receive a prompt to chew her out for it, then you know the choice in Fireteam Leader is a bad choice. The only two exceptions here are Zaeed and Samara. Apparently, both squadmates were originally planned to be suitable choice for 1st Fireteam Leader but were ultimately scrapped at the last minute. I guess they realized that Zaeed's a bit too unhinged and Samara was too much of a lone wolf to be suited for the task.
It would be verry funny if you could choose anyone from your squad. Tech expert: Grunt
Damn you Thane! You got Legion killed on my first run! 😂
I always pick Tali (LI/waifu) for vents, Garrus team leader on both parts and mordin for scout
Same except for the vents because I feel like a Geth would hack faster than anyone

Techs: Tali, Legion or Kasumi
Leader: Garrus, Miranda or Jacob
No there's really only 1 option for leader. Garrus Vakarian. He's either Femshep's turian badass booty call or Broshep's brother from another mother.
I do Jacob for the first leg and Garrus the second. I want to give Jacob some relevance as a character (just like the 1 games Kal and Veetor when I choose "Rally the Crowd" at Tali's trial) and then I choose Garrus next because his armor is more credible at taking bullets.

Such an odd remark for Samara as she's not a good choice for leader, same with Zaeed. I wonder if they were originally going to be good candidates but was changed sometime during development.
STILL so mad Zaeed wasn't a valid choice for combat team leader. Man with the most combat experience, founding member of the Blue Suns, literally the best option, but his DLC was half baked, so he gets no joy. I lost legion because of that.
most of his missions ended with him the only survivor, not to mention he got kicked out form his own group, not the most inspiring person to follow to. a good fighter but not a good leader.
He died holding the line for me
