To truly appreciate their arrangement of this song, you have to listen to the original. The octave jumps Mitch does vocally where all done electronically in the original. Not dissing the original artist since that's her style, but this is just so much better. The way Avi and Kevin echo the computerized background is unreal. Kirstie and Scott more than make up for all the missing computer backgrounds.
I think one of the BIGGEST overlooked things in the PTX universe is the work. These artist put in the work. They don't just accept good. They write, they rewrite, they listen, then tweek and since they love each other without any Divas they critique each other until the end product is simply perfection. Like a sports team that has played together for years and they just know each others moves, this is what you get after YEARS of work and dedication. Much love and keep on keepin on J.
Also notice this one of there "live" recordings. They did not do this in the studio and lip sync, they sang it straight without edits. They are perfectionists.
I love the way you respect the talent of this group. It makes me sad when their fans get side tracked on all the personal life stuff. These people are pure talent and should be listened to and appreciated. Never lose sight of the undesirable talent of the group and the individual abilities that each one brings to the table.
Ben Bram is the 6th member of PTX. He is the one that does all of these arrangements usually with Kevin first then the rest of them. He deserves major props for these too. He's the invisible member of the group. They call themselves choir nerds.
Not sure there is another group of friends that could get together and do this, but let me know if you find them and I’ll come to the party! 😀I hadn’t heard the original before hearing this (I’m old, they are actually my introduction to most popular music) but I was disappointed when I looked up the original and watched it, it couldn’t hold a candle to this amazing performance.
Yes - me too - I've gone back and listened to the originals of many of their covers and heard singers I had not previously listened to. I always prefer the PTX version!
ive got four siblings and whenever all of us are at home we often spontaneously end up composing an acapella without meaning to lmao. its instinct at this point, one of us could be humming while scrolling through our phone or doing the laundry or just whatever and one by one the rest join in 😂
Same here!😄 Pentatonix is mostly my introduction to the songs by others. I’ve been in stores or listening to the radio in the car and hear a song that I recognize but it doesn’t sound right… then the light bulb goes off and it’s Oohhh that must be by the original artist. Sorry, but PTX’s “upgrade” is better by far!!🤣🤣🤣😁😁🥰
Yes! I second that! PTX songs are all originals to me - with very few exceptions - even their Evolution Of’s are actually A Song, not a compilation (the only exception being Michael Jackson, because I was a fan). So, the Only song I deliberately sought out (to hear the original), was this one, because of all of the comments saying that they wiped the floor with it! Guess what? EVERYBODY was correct!! The PTX version isn’t better! It’s HEAD & SHOULDERS Better. It isn’t a cover. It’s an UPGRADE! Since this song, I’ve Never sought out the original of any other cover. There really isn’t any need. I figure that I’m ALWAYS hearing the best version of the song if PTX are singing it. 🤗
Trust me, it's pretty damn fun watching them in a sold out stadium of 20,000+ fans! They spin gold wherever and whenever they open their mouths -- and yet they're all so damn humble and laid back!
I love playing this while I drink a glass of Baileys( well maybe 2 glasses). I also blast the volume up. It’s amazing how much house work gets done. Not really, my husband does the house work.....one of my favorite songs from them. Hope you stay on the PTX train. Also, Their new album comes out tomorrow.....great reaction my friend.....Judy D.
Fil, I will go that party when you find it! The Lounge days are sadly gone. 😔 Those of us who became Adults in the 80's had the best of everything. AWESOME MUSIC, AWESOME CLUBS, AWESOME PARTIES!!
It’s funny when you were talking about how they could be in a cigar lounge etc I instantly thought of their cover of ‘Havana’, it has such a chilled laid back vibe, if you haven’t reacted to that yet I HIGHLY suggest it 😁 This is one of my favourites, everything about it is amazing and it’s absolutely better than the original which is highly enhanced and Kiiara can’t do the chorus live without looping. This video really shows off how in tune with each other they are and it’s mind blowing 🤩
Your reactions are always fun, funny, and bang on point especially when it comes to PTX. You need to react to my favorite member, Kevin KO Olusola, that man is a beast! He speaks 5 languages, one of them fluent in Chinese Mandarin. He's Classically trained from the age of 5 in Piano, Sax and Cello. He preformed as a soloist at Carnegie Hall twice, 1st time with the Sax, 17yrs old and 2nd time on the Cello 18yrs old. He was accepted into Yale at 17 and was finished Pre-Med by the time he joined PTX in 2011 at the age of 21. He is a musical and academic prodigy!! Here are some of the live studio songs he creates in his home studio, singing, playing and using a loop machine, producing the entire song instantly on his own. Here's the link to Kevin's cover of "Down" by Marian Hill ua-cam.com/video/IGjg193h4Ok/v-deo.html And my other fav is Kevin's remake of "Sign of the Times" by Harry Styles ua-cam.com/video/hBFlhLEU7uU/v-deo.html You will blow your mind watching these. trust me and enjoy. I know I'll enjoy seeing you react to them. Thank You & Peace.
I’ve been watching PTX since 2011. I’ve seen most the reactions to their videos that there are. This is the best reaction to this song ever. Subscribed.👍🏾
I'd argue this isn't simple at all. The video production, sure. But the arrangement is wack difficult. Especially Kirstin's part near the end. Credit to her.
@@Wiley_Coyote Agree I've seen so many 'reactors' give credit to Mitch for the end part when it is obviously Kirsten. I know that Kevin & Avi would work long into the night honing their craft when they shared an apartment...
Hahaha.....Just loved your first pause....."Oh my friends sux...they can't do any of this" haha....I also agree with the way they are layering their harmonies....Using my new headphones I usually end up picking myself up off the floor with Avi's gorgeous smooth bass....it just melts me...Kevin is so slick...what a magician. Love it when you can see all of them doing 'their' thing. Kirstie also gave amazing support ....One of your best reactions my friend. Hi from Australia
I always love your comments about PTX they are so insightful. I love that no one else talks about them like you do. It makes your reactions so unique and I always look forward to them.
They totally made this one better. It's one of my absolute favorites. It's over too soon, right? Them in a small lounge ... I'd probably empty the bank for that.
Great reaction. Thanks. I love this PTX video. I especially love when Mitch, Kirstie and Scott each sings a word or two and then the next one sings a word or two, etc, near the end of the song. So cool how they can do that.
I love the sound of Mitch's voice in this song. I think I heard another reactor/musician call it a vocal chop? Anyway, it's heavenly. And how the 3 do that part near the end, aaaahhhh, it's just so insane! Also, I'm thinking the only way any of us could have friends like this is to have these 5 amazing people (well, 6 if you count Matt and Avi) sitting in your living room!! No one else comes close!
Look up, Pentatonix in the airport(should be Thrift Shop)...you’ll love it. Impromptu concert over airport speakers with a simple phone recording, all on one mic
Lol, I've never enjoyed credits so much...Agreed! XD Loved that vocal mix section - and they made it look like it was no biggie, just a normal jam session with with the crew. ^_^
You've done it again Fil - I love watching you being genuinely and persistently blown away by these super talented people. I just love your reactions and sit avidly waiting for the next one - keep em coming my friend :)
Me too! I was folding laundry and listening w/o headphones. I had to stop and put them in, started your reaction over and pumped up the sound. I jammed all over the house putting up the laundry. My dog thinks I'm crazy. Great Reaction ❤
Have you reacted to any of Superfruit’s music? (Scott and Mitch’s side project). Some recommendations of those... RISE, Beyoncé Medley, Empire Medley and their Hip Hop goes Broadway (1&2). They are so good! The last one will have you laughing and it really shows not only their voices but their funny personalities. ☺️
So love them absolutely incredible ...just amazing..all so talented ..perfect harmonies...fi you make me smile an happy always thanku so much love and god bless x
I like this better than Kiiara's electronic voice, just my opinion. Mitch really has this. Thank you for choosing this one. Fun to listen to. Beautiful reaction !
This song is done so well! I love Avi and steady groove and Kevin's steady beat ... that's really difficult to stay on top of without missing a note. OMG you will love COLOGNE (Clean Bandit cover) off their AT HOME EP in 2020!! "When I walk into the club and my feet start to rub.. Everybody thinks I'm weird but the truth is I'm not.."
As much as i love PTX, i need to recommend you check out some other a cappella groups. Voiceplay (Carry on Wayward Son), Home Free (Man of Constant Sorrow), and Voctave (anything on their playlists)...they all have wonderful and extensive rabbit holes to fall down.
Then I truly believe you are going to love The Lucky Ones album......they have basically said it is putting their emotions on tracks. They are talking about their fears, trails and how their love as a group has gotten then trough the last 10 years.
I would totally do a house party with people to make music....but house parties haven't been happening here for a year now. Remember when we thought a 3-week lockdown would make it all better? /sigh
Ok..ok Frank I change my mind, it is very well possible we are going to see Fil and our family hit 50K.. omg I am busting excited 😁...my fingers and toes are crossed 🤞🥰
Now ya got me thinking about what they each would drink at a house party . . . . I know that Scott and Mitch drink white wine on occasion. I have a feeling that Scott would start drinking vodka as the night wore on. Mitch probably prefers tequila (lick it, slam it, suck it). Kirstie seems like a red wine aficionado, though she might start stealing Scott’s vodka. Kevin strikes me as someone who’d sip a glass of bourbon or whiskey all night. Avi definitely drinks craft beer from the local microbrewery.
I know I know, you must be sick of me asking you to do it, but you HAVE TO. I promise you will NOT regret it. You will regret putting it off. AHA Singapore live performance and .. if you like friends sitting chilling and mashing music , then the mash up of New Rules and Are You That Somebody.. IS THE ONE FOR YOU. can't wait for you to do them. :)

Found it. Thank you. Pity you lost the pin. But what's one among so many?

OMG you will love COLOGNE (Clean Bandit cover) off their AT HOME EP in 2020!!
"When I walk into the club and my feet start to rub.. Everybody thinks I'm weird but the truth is I'm not.."
i loved your dancing...
Always love your Pentatonix reactions 😁😁❤️
Thanks so much ☺️❤️
I love your reactions, you make me laugh 😁😊 (in a good way)
That random moment when PTX makes you wish for new friends coz of their casual awesomeness 😂
This is SO much better than the original that I'm doing everything in my power to forget that the original ever existed!
I laughed so hard.. I need new friends, no one of my friends can do that! 😁Your reaction is on point as always, thanks! 👍💕
I would totally sit and have a few drinks in that lounge!!
💯💯💯💯
Loved your reaction. They make forget there are instruments!
😂😂 my friends were like this in high school. 😂😂😂

I would totally do a house party with people to make music....but house parties haven't been happening here for a year now. Remember when we thought a 3-week lockdown would make it all better? /sigh
love this reaction sm 😃
Love you brother
❤️❤️❤️❤️
500 to go Peeps..🤪😜🥰🥰😁😁
I want it to be today of course but it more than likely will be tomorrow...! Lol love you Frank 💕
Welp, they are filling up stadiums 🙃
But I got what you say, and do prefer more intinate venues - and ptx's softer side like this :)
I know I know, you must be sick of me asking you to do it, but you HAVE TO. I promise you will NOT regret it. You will regret putting it off. AHA Singapore live performance
and .. if you like friends sitting chilling and mashing music , then the mash up of New Rules and Are You That Somebody.. IS THE ONE FOR YOU.
can't wait for you to do them. :)
Made a note again.. I will do it soon ☺️
I need new friends! 😂🤣😂🤣 same.
