She also said if anyone loses track of pitch they listen for Mitch. Mitch and Scott performed Defying Gravity (on their Superfruit Channel). Amazing!!
The vocal gymnastics in their cover of "Gold" is mesmerizing. And yet, as you say, they're just sitting on the couch as chill as can be, running through the whole thing in one take. These are always my favourite PTX videos... minimal production, just raw voices. Thanks for a great reaction. Much love from Canada. 💖🍁💖
They are experts at arranging in a way that subtly moves the song forward seamlessly! On the "too much to listen to" part... yeah... my optimal way to listen when they release a new song (especially video) is 7 listens. 1 for overall effect, once for each members part, and one last for the effect when knowing all the intricate stuff, haha. I’m so glad you liked this one, but, then again, I think you will end up appreciating pretty much every thing they do. One of their most recent is the original I Rise, and a recent-ish one I really like is Anchor, which is also an original. It does include portions of five or six songs from that album, but I don’t think they are extensive enough to ruin any future reactions. Loved your insights on Gold, as always. Peace …

No need to apologize for listening again since I assume most Pentaholics have listened to each song 100 times at least. When I first heard their cover of The Prayer, I listened to it more than 10 times in a row (with tears streaming down my face). So much fun ahead for you! I recommend Daft Punk, Evolution of Michael Jackson, Amazing Grace, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Mary, Did You Know, Bohemian Rhapsody and their original Love Again as a starting point. 😊
This is one of the few I'd really recommend having heard at least some of the original! What they do with this song in incredible. One of my favourites. Have a quick look at Kiiara's version - just to cement how good they are.
My favorite live performance is their song New Years Day 2016 NYE w/ Carson Daly. Loving your breakdowns, having done choir really appreciate hearing what you catch… also Born to be wild and Dog Days are my favorite performances on the Sing OFF
Ok I gotta comment on this . I dont know how I missed this reaction. DAFT PUNK MEDLEY!!!! Gold is such a great song but Daft Punk Medley by this group is ....well... I have no words. So much going on in that song that one must watch it multiple times to even comprehend the sounds coming from PTX. I watched it 5 times the first time I heard it and concentrated in each member in each view. It's one of their Grammy awards. A must see
The song that has insane counting on parts coming together is their version of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody - will look forward to your review of that one!
Honestly this one, knowing the original gives context. You don’t have to record it but definitely check out the original and then listen to this again.
Great reaction. I love a bit of analysis. Suggestions galore, I’m sure you’ll find your way. Mitch sings solos under the name Messer, absolutely amazing. Scott too, has done fabulous solo work.
For your own entertainment you should listen to the Kiara version.....at least as much of it as you can stand. But then, I am an old lady and just don't aporeciate her style. How they got this from that is completely mind boggling.
It's really great that you are showing your view on the notes the way you see it comparing to the way that they're doing your channel's definitely a learning tool 🎼
Love your appreciation and reaction in the moment to their sound. So many reactors just sit there...but you can see the appreciation on your face. Great to watch.
I have told this to reactors before. Watch you channel's subscribers climb as you react to PTX. Your likes are almost as many as your subs. There are so many superfans that will subscribe JUST BECAUSE OF PTX REACTIONS! I did
Love your reactions 💖 of their hundreds of clips, THIS remains one of my Top Five Faves 🙌🏻 along with O Come, All Ye Faithful, Sing, Carol of the Bells, Can't Sleep Love from Popspring, and all the Evolutions ... and Love Again 🔥
I had to come back and watch this reaction. Their performance blows me away every time I hear it and I enjoy listening to it with someone else who was blown away. Also the message is needed
You started with my favorite! Welcome to PTX. You must go down the rabbit hole. From US to Paris to Tokyo. From Daf Punk to Gregorian chants to PTX originals, and covers, upgrades, of any music inbetween and beyond. I like your feel for music, great review.
Haha thank you! I've previously reacted to two other Pentatonix performances (both from the Sing Off) so feel free to check them out! In the first reaction I figure out who's singing which part and don't know their names yet
Funny you mention gregorian chants...My 5th PTX reaction (which I filmed yesterday and comes out next week) - I won't say which song it is - I reference 'organum', a musical style typically found in music pre-14th century 🎶
I'll watch you react and analyze this for as long as you're willing to let the video go! I think a lot of us will :D This is my favorite song to suggest reactors listen to, and though I do usually suggest that folks watch/listen to Kiiara's version first, I respect why you chose not to. The biggest difference isn't just the way she did it differently than they chose to, it's also a *completely different song,* really. They not only had Mitch sing the line her song editor chopped up, but they turned her song into something with a very different feel to it.
Hey, what do you mean by 'let the video go'? As in stop pausing so frequently? Or the length of the video I put out? (Or neither! 😅Haha) Yeah agree completely, I listened to Kiiara's version multiple times after this, and then PTX's version multiple times
Something similar to what they do here is when Scott, Mitch & Kirstie round-robin bell tones. You mentioned how precicely they time themselves, & it's so true. Of course they work hard to practice like other professional singers, but they truly are top level. Since 99% of their songs have no instruments at all to help cover imperfections, the effort they've all put in to learning since childhood really shows. Pieces like this & others that feature the bell tones, & their cover of White Winter Hymnal show how timing while working with the others is such an important part of a capella performing. Also, another reactor I've seen occasionally cover PTX who is a vocal trainer as her main career, mentioned once that PTX also has something else that's very rare between the Trio. I wish I could remember the word she used, but it's a musical term that means not just perfect harmony, but a statistically rare special harmony that happens only when certain super-complimentary to each other voices blend in harmony & they create a sound that sounds extra beautiful in the ear & stirs emotion in the listener. She said it's so amazing that it has to be fate their 3 voices do that & they were all born in the same town & grew up with the same desire to perform & wound up singing together. Ahh, I wish I could remember the term she used & which song she was reacting to at the time, but she said it actually happens in several of their songs. Perhaps you know the term I'm describing?
Hey, thanks for the comment! Wow - the Fleet Foxes song?? I NEED to hear this and react to it, I LOVE the Fleet Foxes!! The term you're describing sounds like the production of harmonics. I speak about this briefly in my reaction to PTX's Imagine (you can check it out here if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/qFzr4OmYynw/v-deo.html)
OMG just looked at your playlist and don't see where you've reacted to their Hallelujah official video yet. That's the first one that hooked me into the PTX train!
Kiara couldn't sing this with her voice, she had to use autotune and techno sounds. What Mitch does in this song is just incredible and he just sits and sings like it's no big thing. lol. Love this one.
This is the perfect time to fall down the PTX rabbit hole. Because a) christmas is PTX's fave time of year, they have so mang christmas hits., and b) they just released a new live song from their christmas album...Kiss From A Rose, a cover of the Seal song, and wow it blew me (and many others) away. That said, I really like the idea of you building slowly to that because then you get to see the journey fully, I like that you're looking at early stuff, and look forward to you discovering their bigger covers (especially Daft Punk, Can't Hold Us, Problem, Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine, Hallelujah, then after Matt joined Sound of Silence, Amazing Grance, Mad World, The Prayer, etc), as well as their evolution of... vids, as well as their originals, like Love Again, Run To You, Can't Sleep Love (the popspring version is best, it has a little extra spice), Sing, Happy Now, Coffee in Bed, Thank You, Prayers For This World, I Rise, etc. Popspring 2016 is a good way to see 3 originals & their evo of Michael Jackson. Don't need to apologise for pausing, it is actually a good thing to interject with your knowledge, as long as you rewind it back again people will usually be cool with it (and if not they can go watch the original uninterrupted. Lol). But pausing & talking is also good from the pov of making sure you don't have issues with the label and their overzealous copyright claims. I also recommend diving into some solo/duo stuff too. If you want a little fun, then Superfruit's Hip Hop Goes Broadway 1& 2 as well as their frozen Medley, always make me laugh.
Hey, thanks for taking the time to write this comment! I've received recommendations for all the popular ones multiple times so they're all on my radar - we'll get there eventually (as well as Superfruit)😅 And you're right, with Christmas coming up now is the only appropriate time to check out their Christmas stuff so I'll probably dedicate December to (mostly) Christmas music
Avi can sing overtones. I never even knew that was a thing...two notes at once. There are several videos in which he does THE LION SLEEPS TONIGHT using whistle notes but the coolest I've notice is the sing off performance ET. I never noticed it until I learned he could do that. I read that he did it that performance and went back to listen again and he sounds like a space ship flying or something crazy. I cannot describe it in words but I can compliment Avi by saying it is one of the most unique things that I've ever heard
@@SirHairless I will stay tuned. there are videos of just Avi Kaplan's overtones. It's in Imogene Heap's Aha as well. You can hear his overtone in their original video of that cover , but I cannot hear it in the Singapore Star Vista performance. If I had to guess it's probably because of the video quality, or lack of because it's recorded on a fan's cellphone. I just want to say music is HARD. Most people, as I once did, probably think that being a singer is just raw talent and just spontaneously belting out a song. But watching reactions, especially yours, I've discovered there is so much more to it than just being able to get in front of a microphone and singing. Technique, practice, arrangement, choreography, videos, etc... I realized it in PTX Evergreen. And something you might be interested in is their Evolution of Music video. I took music appreciation in college 30 years ago and the only thing I remember from that class is Gregorian chants. That is where PTX begins that Evolution...11th century. I do believe you would appreciate that performance more than most reactors do because of your musical knowledge and background. Whether you react to it or not, you really should check it out. Looking forward to seeing more from your channel. Sharing it with my friends as well
My understanding is that they practice practice practice and practice some more. Then in the studio they run through a song start to finish several times. Then pick the best one to release.
Ok that was hilarious! 5:42-7:22 Might be the best build up to a reaction I’ve ever seen. You got me at least twice! (and that last one genuinely hurt me)😂 Now I must sub!
I hope you stay in the Pentatonix rabbit hole, it will keep you busy. There's some really amazing newer stuff, after Avi left. "The Prayer" is one of my favorites.
To compare Sing Off, this one which is kind of mid-career, and current - they just released a video from their new Christmas album: Kiss From a Rose - I think you'll appreciate the growth. I appreciate the knowledgeable reaction and subbed for more!
I still say that Avi and Kevin are the best do in music. Kevin didn't sing, but does everything else. Avi and Kevin roomed together and taught him. I'm sure he taught Avi things. I'll miss them together.
If you're not familiar with the original, the only reason to listen to it is to see how much better the PTX version is. I went and checked out the original after hearing this and was woefully unimpressed. Sorry to any Kiiara fans here.
You'll see your subs pile in if you continue down the PTX rabbit hole. I watch A LOT of reactors but you explain things a little differently. I can't explain it except to say I like how you pick it apart. I'm sure you've been suggested plenty of PTX videos, but a few are off the beaten path. "The Wizard of Ahhhh's" is one of my favorites that seems overlooked. Another that was recorded on a cell phone from the audience is "Aha!, Singapore, The Star Vista". Aha also has a studio version but trust me, you want to watch the live version. A few of my other favorites are "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Amazing Grace", "The Prayer", "12 Days of Christmas", and "Mad World". Also, Scott and Mitch have a break-off group called Superfruit, check out their cover of "Rise". Scott covered "Lost On You" with Mario Jose, definitely worth a listen, as well as the newer original pieces Scott has released. Enjoy and Merry Christmas! 🎅
The lyrics are really dumb, so you might wonder what the heck is going on. That's why it might be good to start with the original. I love this. Just hangin out on the couch making astounding music.
You like live performances and was asking about originals....well you really need to watch PopSpring 2016 as babytonix sings 3 originals and an Evolution of Michael Jackson. The evolutions are like a mash-up only with a lot more snipets of songs. They have done several, MJ of course, along with the Music Evol., Ariana Grande, Beyonce, 90's Dance Music and more. They record each one then pick the one they like best, in one take.. They're trasitions, are seamless! They are really fantastic! Love your reactions! Thanks.
Love your reaction! In truth I don’t believe that “perfect pitch” is really a true thing. Everyone has moments of imperfections, but they have all said that Mitch is the one that is most often on pitch. And the others have said that they use him as a bench mark if they ever get off pitch during a performance. But don’t get me wrong - they all have amazing timing and pitch!! ❤
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed! ☺Completely agree that no one can ever give a completely perfect-pitch performance! I do know that perfect pitch is a thing though 🎶 I won't get into why, but I know a fair few people with it who really struggle to sing in certain settings, especially when sight-reading. If the performance has dropped even by a quarter-tone, it will be more difficult for them to stay in tune with everyone else as they're needing to adjust their pitch fractionally away from the true pitch! Perfect pitch is 100% a blessing, 99% of the time😅 But yes - as long as a group is in tune with each other, that's all that matters
Haha, you may 👍It's one of the most recommended recommendations I receive! It'll happen...eventually 👀No, seriously though, it's on my list so I should be able to get round to it in the new year!
Kirstie’s has perfect pitch, she doesn’t hit “bad” notes. She is swooping up in into the notes on purpose. If you don’t believe me, listen carefully, she does it three times. The synth does it on the original. PTX often keys off Kirstie, even though they think Mitch is the best singer in the band, he can be a little pitchy. Kirstie will give them the pitch, she’s an insanely hot little pitch pipe.
Thanks for the comment! That's cool, I didn't know she had perfect pitch! In the comments others have told me it's Kevin who has perfect pitch. I'm afraid I'm going to have to say that no one is always perfectly in tune - not even any member of PTX - and especially when singing with other people 🎶We're all only human and no one is immune to imperfection From the handful of PTX songs I've listened to so far, there are the rare moments when one of them isn't in tune with the rest of the group - it's only natural, like a muscle not performing at 100%, 100% of the time! And it never takes away from the performance at all which is the main thing. If one group was perfect 100% of the time it would be...well...impossible 😉But PTX are the closest thing I've ever seen to it, that's for sure Appreciate you taking the time to watch ☺

I recommend Daft Punk, Evolution of Michael Jackson, Amazing Grace, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Mary, Did You Know, Bohemian Rhapsody and their original Love Again as a starting point. 😊
Thanks for these recommendations 🙏🏽
This is one of the few I'd really recommend having heard at least some of the original! What they do with this song in incredible. One of my favourites. Have a quick look at Kiiara's version - just to cement how good they are.
My favorite live performance is their song New Years Day 2016 NYE w/ Carson Daly. Loving your breakdowns, having done choir really appreciate hearing what you catch… also Born to be wild and Dog Days are my favorite performances on the Sing OFF
Love, love, love your reactions. Welcome to the PTX rabbit hole. You’ll never be disappointed.
Thank you 😊
Ok I gotta comment on this . A must see
As with most of their covers, their renditions are an improvement on the original. Especially on this one. Can't wait for your next reaction.
And I can't wait to react to more! Feel free to check my (two at this point) previous PTX reactions - Video Killed The Radio Star and Let's Get It On
Great reaction. FYI, I never mind listening to this over and over
Thank you! And good to hear haha, I get conscious of going back and replaying bits, but I just have to
The song that has insane counting on parts coming together is their version of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody - will look forward to your review of that one!
La La Latch is a very good older mashup.
As in...La La La by Naughty Boy and Latch by Disclosure?? Two songs I like very much.....
yes @@SirHairless
Brilliant reaction yet again. Thank you!
Pleasure is mine!
With Kiara this is highly emo. Lots of electro and synth. PTX does it all with their voices! 💖
Honestly this one, knowing the original gives context. You don’t have to record it but definitely check out the original and then listen to this again.
Definitely check out their live version of Problem!
Vocal gymnastics, pure and simple!
Vocal gymnastics whilst riding a unicycle and juggling knives
Time to get into some of their Christmas stuff when it is the season. Start with Carol of the bells.
One of my favorite PTX covers! ❤️❤️
Great reaction. I love a bit of analysis. Suggestions galore, I’m sure you’ll find your way. Mitch sings solos under the name Messer, absolutely amazing. Scott too, has done fabulous solo work.
Suggestion: Can’t Help Falling in Love by Pentatonix. Well worth the listen.
For your own entertainment you should listen to the Kiara version.....at least as much of it as you can stand.
But then, I am an old lady and just don't aporeciate her style.
How they got this from that is completely mind boggling.
Ha! Will give it a listen later today
You should check out their behind the scenes video of the recording of evergreen.
They are incredible! Absolutelly perfect! I like you reaction 👍 And btw, Avi just now released his new song "Healing". And it's beyond beautiful!
It's really great that you are showing your view on the notes the way you see it comparing to the way that they're doing your channel's definitely a learning tool 🎼
Love your appreciation and reaction in the moment to their sound. So many reactors just sit there...but you can see the appreciation on your face. Great to watch.
Exactly! They nailed it!!!
Waiting for you to react to Can You Feel the Love Tonight
I have told this to reactors before. Watch you channel's subscribers climb as you react to PTX. Your likes are almost as many as your subs. There are so many superfans that will subscribe JUST BECAUSE OF PTX REACTIONS! I did
Thank you!
One of their very best !!!
Love your reactions 💖
of their hundreds of clips, THIS remains one of my Top Five Faves 🙌🏻
along with O Come, All Ye Faithful, Sing, Carol of the Bells, Can't Sleep Love from Popspring, and all the Evolutions ... and Love Again 🔥
Second for Popspring Can't Sleep Love - love Mitch in that; I can (and do ) watch it over and over.
So enjoyable to watch you enjoy this so much.
Happy to hear it!
I had to come back and watch this reaction. Their performance blows me away every time I hear it and I enjoy listening to it with someone else who was blown away. Also the message is needed
I love how this genuinely stresses you out because it’s so good
Haha! It's a stressful time out here
I think its neat that "falling" is going up instead of going down like you m8ght expect.
Would really like to hear your reactions to their covers of The Sound of Silence and Hallelujah
Just subscribed for your trip down the PTX rabbit hole. You'll be a Pentaholic before you know it!!
Thanks! There's more PTX to come, that's for sure!!
Another great PTX reaction 😊
Thanks!
😅Haha)
Yeah agree completely, I listened to Kiiara's version multiple times after this, and then PTX's version multiple times
@@SirHairless Oh, definitely not 'stop pausing,' my apologies for missing the comment long enough to give that impression! I meant runtime :)
I think you will enjoy their “Evolution of…” videos, they’re marvelous!
Thanks for the recommendation(s), I've seen quite a few people say this so will definitely check them out in the near future!
😊try with their upgrade "Happy" (Farrell Williams).
Amazing! By far one of their best!!!
I really enjoy your reactions. Thank you.
I've received recommendations for all the popular ones multiple times so they're all on my radar - we'll get there eventually (as well as Superfruit)😅
And you're right, with Christmas coming up now is the only appropriate time to check out their Christmas stuff so I'll probably dedicate December to (mostly) Christmas music
Haha it's funny you mention this - my reaction to ET comes out tomorrow 😀 And, of course, I discuss his overtones.harmonics...watch this space!
Welcome to PTX!
You made the right choice by NOT watching the original first. Great reaction. Thanks!
Thank you for doing the early stuff first. You won't regret it. Try their first original and what a joy it is. "Sing" is its name.
Thanks for the recommendation!
Loved the reaction and the analysis!!
🙏
Pentaholics will tell you that PTX don't really do covers, but rather they do upgrades!
Ok that was hilarious! 5:42-7:22 Might be the best build up to a reaction I’ve ever seen. You got me at least twice! (and that last one genuinely hurt me)😂 Now I must sub!
😂 Sorry not sorry (and appreciate the sub! 👌🏽)
I hope you stay in the Pentatonix rabbit hole, it will keep you busy. There's some really amazing newer stuff, after Avi left. "The Prayer" is one of my favorites.
Oh don't you worry, my PTX list is MASSIVE - should keep me going for a long while - and I've not even entered the Matt era at all yet!
To compare Sing Off, this one which is kind of mid-career, and current - they just released a video from their new Christmas album: Kiss From a Rose - I think you'll appreciate the growth. I appreciate the knowledgeable reaction and subbed for more!
Thank you!
Judging by the "very impressed by PTX" sort of comments all thru this comment section, I'd say there are no Kiiara fans here to worry about.
Thanks.
Thanks for watching! And for the recommendations ☺
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Perfect pitch is 100% a blessing, 99% of the time😅
But yes - as long as a group is in tune with each other, that's all that matters
May i suggest reacting to their cover of Kiss From a Rose?
Haha, you may 👍It's one of the most recommended recommendations I receive!
It'll happen...eventually 👀No, seriously though, it's on my list so I should be able to get round to it in the new year!
💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝
New live cover of Seal’s Kiss From a Rose. Dropped a couple of days ago. Go
⚡⚡⚡🔥⚡⚡⚡
You should def react to their "no" cover
Thanks for the reco!
this one is insane
Kirstie’s has perfect pitch, she doesn’t hit “bad” notes. She is swooping up in into the notes on purpose. If you don’t believe me, listen carefully, she does it three times. The synth does it on the original. PTX often keys off Kirstie, even though they think Mitch is the best singer in the band, he can be a little pitchy. Kirstie will give them the pitch, she’s an insanely hot little pitch pipe.
Thanks for the comment! That's cool, I didn't know she had perfect pitch! In the comments others have told me it's Kevin who has perfect pitch.
I'm afraid I'm going to have to say that no one is always perfectly in tune - not even any member of PTX - and especially when singing with other people 🎶We're all only human and no one is immune to imperfection
From the handful of PTX songs I've listened to so far, there are the rare moments when one of them isn't in tune with the rest of the group - it's only natural, like a muscle not performing at 100%, 100% of the time!
And it never takes away from the performance at all which is the main thing. If one group was perfect 100% of the time it would be...well...impossible 😉But PTX are the closest thing I've ever seen to it, that's for sure
Appreciate you taking the time to watch ☺
you can make it as long as you want... Fine by me!
Haha thanks!

Listen to The Prayer by pentatonix
