I used to be a detailer at a big ford dealership. They would sell a paint protection add on for 2000 dollars. All it was is ceramic wax in a bottle that we would put into a foam cannon, mix it with water, and spray on the car during the car wash. It took about 60 seconds to do. Total rip off.

That’s why knowledgeable buyers don’t pay for that. Usually we’ll order the car and get it off the trailer still in plastic and ask the dealer to not touch the car.

I worked at a dealership in the past. The undercoat was actual rubberized coating that took an hr to apply. The paint and fabric sealer was not that special. Maybe useful for 3 months. I never buy any of these add ons. IMO nobody should buy these add ons.

I used to work for the dealership that I ordered my SS 1LE from and they sold a paint protection and fabric protection for $2799!! All it was was sprayed on the seats and sprayed on the exterior of the car while it was being washed for delivery. I told the salesman that I know what their protection package consists of and that I’m not going to pay for it. He told me that they have to charge that for every car they sell. I walked out of the door and wouldn’t you know I got a phone call from the salesman saying that since I was a former employee they would eliminate the protection package and give me employee pricing. I ordered my car and couldn’t be happier.

It's a complete scam. I used to be a sales manager at a dealership. Our cost of the product was $10 per bottle and it took about 15 minutes to apply. Typically the product lasted about three washes. (I jokingly called it spray wax with a warranty). It provides no verified UV protection other than slightly higher gloss.
After leaving the business, I found myself buying a new Chevy last year and they were pushing this product hard. I turned it around and directly told the sales manager that by saying I "needed" this product he apparently had very little confidence in the quality of the OEM paint. His face turned bright red. Needless to say I didn't buy any extras.

Some things never change. I lived in Northern Wisconsin back in the 70s, and back then the item the dealerships sold was rustproofing. One time a little independent body shop I hung out at back then, went to push out a dent in a door, there was no rustproofing in the door! There were plugs in the door so it looked like it had been rustproofed, but not a sign of any rustproof material inside the door! This was all fifty years ago, so all I remember is it was the Ford dealership in Rhinelander, Wisconsin that was pulling that trick back then.

As someone who worked in sales 30+ years and learned to sell in the 3M sales training program in the 80's . I find these guys pretty offensive I generally tell the sales person what I want and ask for a "best price". If they start playing games, I leave. I have already rescearched what the price should be. I never listen to add on lies.

I tried doing a deal on a GT3 with the Boise Porsche dealer. We finally agreed on a price, but when we did the trade on a 50th anniversary 911 in concours shape with 6,000 miles they offered $20,000 UNDER wholesale. I immediately killed the deal bought a car from Newport Beach. They did full wholesale and my negotiated price. Later the Boise salesman saw me and says he was a professional and I was stealing money for his family and taking food from their mouths. I told him that $20,000 was MINE FIRST and stealing it FROM ME doesn’t make him a professional salesman it makes him a THEIF . I said next time I see him I’ll call him a RAT to his face. He moved to Mercedes

I’ve purchased two new vehicles this year, and didn’t pay a single penny in add ons. In my mind, I think it’s easier for everyone if you just state that upfront. The salesman can spend less time haggling with me, and thus move on more quickly to the next potential customer for another sale. It shouldn’t be so difficult, and frankly there no reason for it to be. Always love your videos and always looking out for folks.

When I bought my second car, I was still very young around 24 and on the add ons it said $2000 ceramic coating already had been applied onto the vehicle. I was young, misinformed, and eager to get a cool new car. Thought it was necessary for the car so i agreed, the dealership sold me the car and gave me the a do it at home kit to maintain it. I looked up the kit online it cost $50…watching all of your vids opened my eyes to alot of shady tactics dealerships use and i honestly believe this dealership put a $50 kit on my car and sold it as a $2000 add on. Maybe im wrong but thank you for your educational vids OC next time i buy a car i know i have ALOT of power when it comes to negotiating.

There’s a new ceramic coating named Clean by pan the organizer and it’s really top-tier! And it’s $99 for three year coating. They’re not hard to put on no matter what brand you buy, you gotta do your homework and watch reviews on the product. I’d rather have one of those and do it myself. I can do my own car. I bought a ton of detailing equipment and I did everything myself.

I helped my mother buy a new car. A Buick Envista. She wanted an extended warranty because she drives around 30,000 miles a year. I told her that's the only add on you get from them. I was surprised when the salesman didn't really try and sell us anything extra. But we specifically wanted a base model. So maybe that's why. She bought the base model of the cheapest new car at the dealership. And I was there with her to make sure she didn't get ripped off and drove her there in my modified 79 Subaru wagon. So maybe the salesman didn't want to try anything because he could see I was knowledgeable about cars. Either way it was a pleasant surprise.

In reality this product Simoniz etc isn’t the greatest product up front. What you are paying for is the warranty. In general most adults won’t need it but I do have simoniz on my car because I have two young kids and they messed up the rear seat and they replaced it. Again doesn’t happen often but paint definitely gets destroyed within 5 years and I have seen companies repaint the cars under warranty. So in short it’s not the best product but it seems like their warranty process is pretty good

The company that makes it is very professional and the product is great! My dad uses it on his high dollar show cars and he highly recommended me to try it! I think the bottle I bought was less that 50 bucks. I hope this will help someone...

First, idgaf about "taking food out of their mouths". If theyre good theyll make plenty of money selling many cars a month. Second, go into the dealership with the mindset you're not getting anything you dont want or youre walking. Unless its a rare car you shouldnt be pressured to get anything like this crap or lug nuts or nitrogen. If they decide not to take it off walk away and go somewhere else. Plenty of times I traveled to other states to buy a car and drive it home because dealers near me wouldnt give me the deal i wanted
