- Pretty stupid fight. Riku has a 3 hit counter but it's random if you get hit or not. To not get hit you have to wait for him to jump to safely combo him.

Kingdom hearts 1 was peak Sora. I dunno what happened in KH2 where he goes emo all of a sudden cause in KH1 he was always optimistic even despite being betrayed and losing his best friends in front of him, he never gave up and always had a big smile willing to do what it takes to save them. The writing and pacing may be dated, but KH1 will always have a spot in my heart for being my favorite iteration of Sora. (though Riku got better in Chain of Memories and Dream Drop distance. in the main games he has no personality which is a shame...)
As a kid I thought Riku was a bully only targeting Sora
He kind of is in this game. He gets better from Chain of Memories onwards tho
@@mega20able I’d like to say that there is a difference between a rival and a bully. But there are times when a rival and a bully connect together in a character. Honestly I don’t think Riku is a bully. He taunts Sora, but I feel like it’s under the impression of Ansem’s darkness. Plus, Rivals can be best friends yet still taunt each other. Riku is one of these characters. He cares about his friends, and while he does have a rivalry with Sora in this game, most of the malice he commits aren’t really him doing it

Press square. You can guard everything he does in this fight. Even in the 2nd fight. the only thing you can’t guard against is dark aura but literally jump and glide around and it completely misses

@@skylerbehunin7777 that works on regular proud but level one even if you learn how to parry with the key blade you’ll stager and Riku can hit you.

He did not decide to go into the darkness. Xehanort just targetted him.
@@youngfox2186Yeah I think Sora failed the Mastery exam for the same reason it was changed after the BBS trio took it. No longer separating light from darkness, the key was now about being able to master both at the same time. Sora was always all about light and goodness, but never really handled dark well, while Riku, despite having given in to darkness a lot, knew in his heart how to use the power for good and stayed true to his morals, showing mastery. The game doesn't do the best job of explaining it, but that's the real reason Sora failed the Mark of Mastery exam. He couldn't handle Darkness when exposed to it, while to Riku, Light and dark affected him the same...not at all.
If you pause at the right time during 1:33, You'll see Riku is missing some textures.

There can be loads of funny bugs in this game during cut scenes. I had one cutscene where sora completely dissapeared
So just lock him to where he does his silly slashes and then catch up with him on the jump? Time to still die to this battle cause i'm bad!!

6 years late but trying lvl 1 first time and tried this strat, couldn't hit em for the life of me, but i stood atop the stairs and he jumps more often and is easier to hit. hit, jump down, have him fall down, jump up repeat. thanks for the idea!

So how much practice do you do when doing these challenges?
It depends what fight it is. The story bosses are usually not too bad, but the optional bosses can take a while. I've been pretty good at this game since PS3, so I knew most of the fights before this version.
Kingdom hearts is a game where you think you can win fights by just mashing the X button, but if you take the time to study enemy attack patterns, that's when it's combat complexity really opens up. Most battles are designed where it's easy enough to let a masher win but when you fight the data fights in later games where strategy is mandatory or you'll die (or even Sephiroth/Unknown which play more like KH2 battles). Just be patient and study Riku or any boss's attack pattern and look for openings to get combos in, you'll never really take damage even on proud mode.
To think Riku went through all this and flushed his friendship with Sora down the toilet over a girl LOL
That keyblade was like woah wait this kid knows where it's at and returned to the one who deserves it more

I wonder how can Riku wield a keyblade after re-losting it to Sora. The Soul Eater is supposed to be Xehanort's own keyblade?

I also no damaged riku on lvl 1 proud but I did it by hanging on the right ledge for about 45 minutes and let donald and goofy chip his hp down. after a while i got off the ledge and poked him and he died. (may take less time but on my 1st attempt i waited 20 minutes and he didnt die in 1 hit so i waited for 45 minutes on my 2nd attempt)

It's not explicitly said in the game, but moves like sonic rave, strike raid, and ars arcanum are considered limits in this game. Hence why KH2's LIMIT Form lets you use those moves.
