Good tips. The Gulf Breeze PD have always been, well, highly vigilant. And sunscreen choice is crucial. I lifeguarded there for years and saw countless tourists get sun poisoning the first day and spend the rest of their vacation in total misery. As for the red flag days, tourists aren't well equipped to navigate rips, and the rips in Pensacola are particularly bad, due to the soft sand. I've seen lots of sweet dead tourists who drowned on small days where a particularly vicious rip developed.

Biggest issue for out of state visitors, is the undertow. DO NOT SWIM IN GLASSY WATER. If u do get Into an undertow, swim parallel to the shore, and do not try to swim against it. Eventually, the pull will lessen, and u can move parallel and get out of it.. though u may be out a way from shore. So don't waste energy

Them guys are CRAZY for being off shore in them kayaks. I had my 16 ft Cape Horn in Alaska fishing for Halibut down at Ninilchick. We were 80 ft water and i had a Chum bag tied at to anchor chain. The boat starts doing a 360 with anchor down,,,WTH is going on ???? The boat stopped and a Huge Male Killer Whale came up right beside me and blew his air hole,,,,,,,you wanna talk about LOUD ??? Scared the crap out of us,,,he went back down and grabbed the chum bag again and we took off,,, my 3 friends were kissing the floor of the boat and i was tied off to front kleet. If he dives ,,,were going flying, i yelled cut the anchor rope,,,,they were still kissing the floor, i grabbed a knife and went to the front and just touched that rope and it cut. My bouy ball started drifting off and a buddy grabbed a long gaff and was hanging over the Yamaha 75 trying to gaff the ring, i was standing at center. That Killer Whale came straight up at my buddy hanging over the motor,,,,his head hung out on both sides of the Cape Horn,,,his dorsal fin was son long it hung all the way over. I thought that sucker was trying to get my buddy and started to gas it and haul butt,,,if i had , he would have went flying out, right into that killer Whale,,,,,,,scared the crap out of us again. From then on,,,, when i saw Killer Whales,,,i took off for shore. He had to be 30 ft,,,biggest one i ever saw in 16 years up there. They called me Whale Rider after that

Lol been here all 30 years of my life…. Always preferred destin and Navarre. The last decade Pensacola has become overrated and overpopulated. It’s so boring here
But you prefer Destin? Probably the most touristy area on the panhandle is Destin.
