Being stationed here back in the early 90's at NAS is why I decided to finally move here. It's quiet different than Nashville, but the growth is happening and the crazy drivers I thought I left. For the most part, P'Cola is an ok place to live as long as you don't live on the West side of town. The West side is a crap hole with trash along the street, homeless, and druggies hanging out.
I'm retired Navy (ret 1993). Lived here for over 30 years in a home we had built in 1989. Same house on the West side out behind the dog track. I've never experienced the crap hole you talk about. I'm originally from San Francisco, CA. I'd done 3 tours here and decided to retire here rather than CA or HI, where my wife is from. Navy Hospital is a huge bonus, VA Hospital is great. I'm located very close to both. There are homeless and druggies wherever you go. It's disgusting to see trash thrown along the side of the roads but it's usually picked up pretty quickly. I wouldn't live anywhere else.
@@Junkyard_Dawwg Well you must not have visited Myrtle Grove recently then. All they can think here is drinking, drugs, and poon-tang. Trash is NOT pickup quickly in this area. Sad to see slum lords have taken it over.
Like the video. I spent a lot of time Pensacola. My mother is from a small town in Alabama about 60 miles away. Pensacola is the only option for healthcare and serious shopping. It's a great medium size city. Now that Im in my 50's, Im ready to slow down to a place like Pensacola.
According to U.S. News & World Report it’s the #3 place to retire in the nation. I definitely love living here. Let me know if you ever need anything! Thanks for watching 🏝️
Left out. The Opera, Ballet,Symphony. We also Have 3 major Hospitals. Some people may not like one or the other but they are here. If not i would not have retired here.
Those are great pros! Thank you, definitely should have added those in. I will if I do another similar video in the future. I love the Saenger theater.
We need a lot more Cons in your video lol. Too many people moving here lately driving prices up too high. Here is one huge con that wasn't mentioned. It rains here a lot. I mean a lot. Probably more than anywhere else in the US. And when it does rain it pours. All that being said Pensacola is a great place. Its real laid back and comfortable. There isn't many places I would rather live.
That’s a great point actually! It definitely rains a good amount. I looked it up out of curiosity. Apparently it’s the 5th “rainiest” state. Hawaii is number 1. Then Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and (us) Florida. I’ll have to do an updated video down the line, I have left out a lot of other cons and pros. I love living here as well. Thanks for your feedback Karl!
Thank you! I’m sure it’s cold where you’re right now. Hope it’s not too bad. I enjoy both Gulf Breeze and Pensacola. They’re both very close to each other either way. Some people work in Pensacola and live in Gulf Breeze and vice versa. Gulf Breeze has some great school zones but sometimes carry’s a little bit higher average price point. It’s also much smaller than Pensacola. You’re closer to the beach in Gulf Breeze but don’t necessarily have much of a downtown aspect. Many people who look here are open to both areas and just depends on what you’re looking for and your needs. Feel free to reach out to me directly and I would be happy to answer any questions or be a resource for you. All the best! 🏝️
I lived in PNS in late 1980s and early 1990s. Beaches were so pristine, soft sugar white sand and plenty of beach where you could be the only one there. I imagine it's more crowded now? The older I get, the less I like those cold snaps (it can and does get very cold sometimes in PNS). I now prefer South FL, from Vero Beach southward. Nice video. Thanks for sharing.
It certainly gets busy! Sometimes you can go over to Perdido Key or Navarre Beach (both close by) and it’s a little less crowded. But it’s really only the summer months that get super busy. We had a couple of really cold days this year but not many. Todays high is 72’. South beach is lovely as well! Thank you for the kind words. 😊
Used to be nice … 25 years ago … After hurricanes 🌀 all the rif raft landed here- the crime Extremely heavy downtown and everywhere In Escambia County … We don’t go downtown any longer…
Another con Is everything shuts down way too early 8pm ur options for food are cut in half after 10, you have only Domino's, whataburger, and Waffle House . So if you ever get that late evening craving for a milkshake, you are pretty much out of luck.
We just came back from spending a few days in and around Pensacola. Of course the beaches are the best in the whole country. Loved the farmers market by the way. Coming from a major city called San Antonio Texas it was such a relief coming to Pensacola. Laid back community without the crazy city life. Loved the small town feeling, I was also amazed by the large number of businesses Pensacola has so there's stuff going on . The cost of living went up in all desired states , not just Florida. Housing market is crazy even here in Texas. Some places are cheaper than others. Maybe in a few years after all crises we're facing we might consider a move but only if things don’t get out of hand of course. We own a house basically we wouldn't move with nothing in our hands. My wife works in Healthcare I'm in the transportation business so job search shouldn't be too difficult. Is Pensacola actually growing in population and businesses?
Glad to hear that! Texas has a lot of similarities but of course your cities are much bigger typically. Yeah, Florida in general is growing a ton. I would say the population and job opportunities are increasing for sure. There is a ton of money coming into the city and state from outside sources. A lot of people relocating here as well. I think it’s still somewhat of a bargain compared to some markets/cities in Florida. I know that’s relative but for the most part. Also, we have 3 major hospitals so the medical industry is definitely abundant here. Let me know if I can ever answer any questions or be a resource for you. Come back soon! Thanks for watching TexasTravelers 🏝️
@Living on the Emerald Coast Florida appreciate your feedback. Good to know there's some healthy economy , not like a dying city. We'll see where we're at in a few years we aren't in a hurry until then we come visit Pensacola and spend our money there .
Lived in Pensacola and can't believe the number one con isn't rainfall. It is the second highest city in the US for rainfall and number one is Mobile, AL which is right next door. It seems like it rains every day and don't believe the people that say it only rains 10 minutes a day and it's sunny the rest of the time. It rains, and a lot. Take the good with bad because when it isn't raining, it's beautiful but it does rain a lot.
Don't compare cost of living to other cities. Compare it to what people actually make in Pensacola, then tell me if it's more affordable. Salaries don't match cost of living at all.
Don't worry about the alligators.....that's South Florida. A direct hit from a hurricane is bad anywhere. September and October are the worst hurricane months.....ocean water is the hottest.
Still pretty strong! I own an STR property myself not far from downtown. Still a lot of tourism for being America’s first settlement and the downtown area specifically. We have a lot of other draws as well (Pensacon, holidays, parades etc). Happy to provide you some more detailed info if interested. Just let me know.
Definitely! Depends on the neighborhood specifically though. Some have no HOAs etc. There are many neighborhoods where you’re not only allowed to have an RV in your yard but you could also build a RV Garage as well. I’ve even seen them is some neighborhoods that you might be surprised. Let me know if there’s anywhere you’re looking specifically and I’d be happy to let you know and get you copies of any covenants or restrictions, ByLaws etc. Thanks!
Definitely, that’s a big bonus for sure. It’s a large part of the community. We have a lot of people stationed here all the time through the Navy Base. Also the home of the Blue Angels 💙 The base also has the Naval Aviation Museum which is pretty awesome. Free to the public. Lastly, the Pensacola Lighthouse is on base as well, you can go to the top and it’s an incredible view of the ocean (it does cost to tour though). Thanks for watching Wade!

Why dont you show brownsvill and mayfair. Yeah the hopatality over on citress is great as long as you got $20 lmao or how a out the run down trailer parks were nothing works. Or lets check out whatd left on pensacola beach the day after memoreal day. How about the lovly reception you get at the local grocery stores you jnow the ones asking you for mony between your car and the store. How about the laundy mats that have plenty of working washers but mabby on a good day 3 working dryers. Look pensacola is the arm pit of north fla
If I want to move there None of these applies, to I am interested in city traffic and access to grocery as Costco, employment opportunities, weather, apartments rentals, crime . I don’t eat in restaurants every day so don’t care much about it.😉
I’m a native Floridian and get disgusted when people only consider real Florida somewhere along the beach. Like saying doesn’t feel like Tennessee without the mountains.
Maybe killer airport wasn’t the right way to phrase it haha. The Pensacola Airport is pretty good in relation to the size of the city. They have most direct flights from all the larger cities. It’s definitely not LAX or Jacksonville but it should accommodate most flights at a reasonable cost. In 2022 it ranked International Airport #82 out of over 400 airports in terms of total passenger travel. Thanks for watching Priscila!
