My brother passed into Heaven in 2013, he was a great drummer, and Steve Gadd was one of his favorites.....him and Carmine Appice 🥁 Thank you Jasper for uploading this....one of my very favs, too! God bless all here, in Jesus’s Precious Name!🕊💕🙏🙋♀️🌹
Saw him many times with Stuff ,The Gadd Gang He was my favorite piano player all time and his keyboard work ,Hammond/ electric piano on dozens of recordings from Areatha to Simon is stunning.I cried when he died
Feb 2024. I was a big fan of the band 'Stuff'. It had 6 great studio musicians: Gadd & Richard Tee from this video, along with Eric Gale, Cornell Dupree, Gordon Edwards & Christopher Parker. I love finding those guys in these classic videos.
@@brandonlbartlett lol i didn't write that. One of my friends went around on random UA-cam videos and commented sh*t on them around 2 years back. Steve gadd is a legend no doubt.
Steve is a star drummer, but don't forget the great Richard Tee on piano!! Good to see Richard's unique playing in action after all these years! RIP Richard. We will all miss you.
Cool to look at different time periods of Paul and this particular song. Tempo change, his voice changes, different groves but Steve is always smokin!!!!!
I love the way that Mr. Simon loves and trusts the musicians that he works with. I love the way that the musicians with him ( whom, I would surmise) have never played with each other as a group, smile--and toss their ego aside. Each smile, as they pay homage to the god they love (Music) makes me happy and glad to have seen such wonderful artists have such fun.
Strong musicians with a strong discipline in their field of music I think Elaine S . Whether they might bite eachother's heads off behind the stage is another matter. xxx
When you listen to a live performance of a classic song and everybody on the stage is smiling and laughing with happiness and joy, well to me that's perfect!!
I swear if this video ever gets taken down it will be one of the greatest crimes against humanity ever perpetrated. Every note, every word is pure musical bliss 👏👏👏
whenever I am out on the town, and it is 'Late in the Evening" , and I look at my watch, and it is 1:02, I always harken back to this jam! Great Stuff!
...mmm so good to see the man smile, guess thats what happens when you are so 100% happy with what you are doing so enjoyingl, along side other wonderful musicians in what seems to be an intimate venue, for an appreciating NOT stadium audience. many thanks for posting again...
I really don't see how anyone could give this video a thumbs down. Like, someone would seek this video out on UA-cam - and was 'disappointed' at this performance...?!
This was for MTV Unplugged. Paul didn't plan doing late in the evening because he thought it wouldn't work unplugged, so this was improvised as an encore. Simply amazing.
@jabrother When I was a kid, my mom used to bring me to every Paul Simon concert that came to town. She'd always point out "Mr. T" on piano, and in some small way, we shared in the sorrow of his death the next time Paul came to town without him. Rest in peace, Richard Tee. We loved you.
Anyone else click on this version because Steve Gadd was the cover shot? Thank you Jasper for uploading this.

Still jammin to this gem in 2024!! Stellar performance. Paul Simon forever.😊😊. And do give some love to Chris Botti on the trumpet 🎺❤❤.
Listening in 2023. What a jam!
2024!
Check out the version by Paul from his UA-cam Channel "Paul Simon" ..it's much better than this one!
Mamma mía!!! Steve Gadd, Micheal Brecker, Chris Botti, Richard Tee and Paul Simon in the same stage!!! That´s music!!!
Randy on trumpet also?
Totally agree tore the house down
Still listening in 2024
This performance of Late in the Evening, was the final time Richard Tee performed live before his death in 1993. Rest in Peace Richard.
I was unaware that he had died. What a loss!!!! RIP Richard Tee.

@@taukhouse44 Yup. Used to see them at Mikell's back in the day. An amazing amazing band.

Fantastic...the drums, bass, trumpet, the whole song, just comes together perfectly. thanks for posting!
Conductors conduct from the front - Gadd conducts from the back - TOTAL BOSS!
Nice. Gadd is an underappreciated maestro, IMO.
this is what its all about
that bass sound is KILLER
This is Paul Simon's GREATEST song ever
I have just 2 words for you . . . Steve Gadd.
Amen
Steve is a star drummer, but don't forget the great Richard Tee on piano!! Good to see Richard's unique playing in action after all these years! RIP Richard. We will all miss you.
Tee and Gadd were very close friends. Gadd was devastated when Tee died.
Paul Simon's music has that unique quality of making you feel good. Utterly amazing.
Depends on your personal relationship to the song what if witnessed a tragic event while hearing this would it not trigger that?
Love the brass in this - and Gadd - and everybody else there.
The WHOLE band just rock through this!
cul
that bassist....amazing
Happy birthday Mr. Steve Gadd. Such a tune.... That beat!!!! WHOOOO
Gadd and bass player r killing it
The anniversary of the birth of pianist Richard Tee. Rest in peace to a versatile musician.

Steve’s Yamahas with the Evans hydraulic heads we THE sound of that era. Terrific.

Brilliant, well disciplined show though, true or not Yashas? What happens behind stage is of course simply human, agreed.
It's nice to see Paul smiling and it's especially nice to see Richard Tee on the keys!!!!

FANTASTIC GROOVE OF STEVE
I never imagined this song in an all-acoustic version, but it sounds really good.
I love to watch the band look at each other and smile or give each other the big eye.
I really don't see how anyone could give this video a thumbs down. Like, someone would seek this video out on UA-cam - and was 'disappointed' at this performance...?!
There are many strange people out there. °_°

Maybe they think the band is fantastic and Paul Simon is a pretentious jerk.
that guy is totally screwing the hole thing up

Wow!!!! Great stuff. Chris Botti looks so young.
I played this for my High school Higher Music Drum qualification. A beast of a song !!
Steve Gadd's expression: "Aaaaaaaaaaw yeeeeeeeah"
Awesome. No one makes music like this anymore
Especially love this song! It brings it all home💕
Somebody asked me to explain the concept of 'groove' in songs, and this is the first song i came to to make them understand. LOVE IT
Please tell me they got it.
Just as with "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover," Gadd's creativity was what this song was about.
Steve Gad is my greatest drum inspiration! You also can’t ignore the impeccable musicians sharing the stage. The groove is off the charts!

One of the greatest musicians in the planet
older, but still so great, love his smile, makes me smile too
When Steve starts using his ride (actually, his crash !), it's just so musical and kicks the song into another gear.
Paul Simon is a musical genius.
Everyone in a band plays along with the drummer. If the song is good, the drummer is great.
