I was a kid growing up in california during the satanic panic and it changed how every adult interacted with you. It was weird. Books touching on that weirdness hit different for me I guess? I really enjoyed it. The audio book was stellar. Excited for the live show!

Kayla I just recommended a book to another commenter but I think you’d like it too. All These Wonders is a collection of stories that are transcriptions of stories people told on stage. One of the authors/speakers is the author of A Long Way Gone.
It’s a beautiful collection of peoples real stories and I’d definitely recommend it. (It also has a beautiful cover, at least my edition, I live in the US

The Salt Grows heavy is not just a horror retelling of the Little Mermaid, but also The Three-Army Surgeons with a dash of Frankenstein, the plot is pretty easy to predict if you know the second tale. I loved the atmosphere and the writing, esp the extra story at the end, but I gave it a 8/10 because I wanted the metaphoric-ness to be less present during fast/action scenes.

Listening to your review of Arsenic and Azaleas reminded me that I just read a book that is also set in Kelowna, and since that seems to be something that tickles your fancy I thought I'd drop the title! It's TJ Powar Has Something to Prove by Jesmeen Kaur Deo. It's a YA contemporary book about a Punjabi high school student who decides to stop removing all of her body hair as a protest against the sexist double standards about beauty (and race, etc.) and I enjoyed it very much. The audiobook was also great. There is also some competition elements, because TJ is a debate student and she's super into it, and we get a lot of great details about how to debate. Very satisfying.

I didn't think The Wolf and the Woodsman was bad...but I honestly did not understand the hype for it. I agree and wish the book had been a bit more delevoped because I felt like it was sort of disjointed and flat. It had a lot of elements I enjoy so it was a bummer to end up not loving it.

@@paperbacksgalore okay okay perfect so SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER WARNING for anyone who stumbles here 👀
So obviously Indigo and Azure have the stolen identity situation going on in the end.
I thought this was TOO obvious. There were so many mentions of them looking identical and sharing a soul and whatever..I figured that had to be the reveal.
But THEN at like the halfway point they start talking about how Azure had to give up her memories and wanted a fresh start or whatever to fully dedicate herself to Indigo.
So at that point I was fully convinced that Azure and the Bridegroom were the same person. Especially since the Bridegroom doesn't have a name. "He" is like a blank slate.
And maybe Indigo, like, *continually* does this to Azure. Makes her start over. Keeps messing with her. And every time Indigo wipes her memory, she "meets" Azure over and over again, convinces her to marry her, "never look into my past" etc...but every time, Azure finds out the truth, that they've always known each other, and Indigo is just manipulating her for fun.
Maybe it got a little far fetched but I was so bummed when that wasn't the plot lol
