We don't have the same reading tastes at all, but there is something so joyful about watching someone else love the book they're reading. Your face of surprise while you were reading Oona Out of Order just made me so happy. It's such a beautiful universal thing.
Kayla and I also don’t really match reading tastes, but I trust her opinions and end up picking up her recs, it’s been quite successful with what I have picked up
I have never added and removed a book off my TBR as fast as I did Oona out of Place. I was SO on board until you recommended it for fans of the Midnight Library and I immediately removed it lol
I did not like the Midnight Library but I really enjoyed Oona! I suggest you give it a try, they are very different, more likable characters for sure in Oona
I actually couldn’t be happier that you really enjoyed Happy Place! I was convinced you wouldn’t but I’m glad I was wrong. It’s my 2nd fav Emily Henry (right behind People We Meet on Vacation)
You’ve really got me wanting to read Oona Out of Order! Also I loved the section with just your reaction to reading it because I feel like we don’t get it all the time and it’s just pleasant to see people’s real time reaction to books they’re enjoying. 🙂
I read Oona out of order about a year ago when I’ve never heard of it before or seen anyone talk about it and loved it! Glad more people are reading it and liking it!
I love the way you review books! You are honest and objective, even with books you love. For example, Dona Out of Order sounded interesting to me, but I've not had luck with those kinds of stories in the past (hated Midnight Library), and though you loved it, I appreciate how you mentioned to go into the book with specific expectations. It doesn't sound like something I would like, but I'm so glad you did! That's what I want to get out of a review!
I teared up watching you read the doom in Happy Place, remembering all the feels. Also I'm currently reading Seven Days in June, and it does feel similar.
I had the same reaction to Oona Out of Order. I had to order my own copy immediately. It was amazing. I'm so glad you loved it! It was my Top Favorite book of that year for sure!
Aww I’m glad you enjoyed Happy Place!! It’s so interesting to me to see the different opinions people have with Emily Henry’s books, which ones they like and dislike. It seems like Happy Place is pretty polarizing, but it totally surprised me and was a 5 ⭐️ read! It’s my favorite after Beach Read 💕 Im curious to see how you’d rank People We Meet on Vacation now!
aww I'm so glad you had a good time with happy place 💖 other than book lovers, I haven't been a big fan of emily henry. and even I loved happy place. thank you for creating such a bright place on youtube that I trust I can go to when my day needs a little uplifting. two of my favorite things in one place; good people & good books. definitely my comfort channel. happy reading ☺
Oona out of Order is published as The Rearranged Life of Oona Lockhart in the UK and I have reserved it at my local library. It sounds like a heartwarming read :)
I’m so glad you talked about “Oona Out of Order”. I haven’t heard any other booktubers discuss it and it is so great! My favorite theme is books that play with time and this one did not disappoint.😊
I love when we both read the same book around the same time. It was enjoyable hearing you talk about The Last Word when I just read it last week! I also couldn’t decide how to rate it. It was a quick read and fun and campy, but I’m not sure how memorable it will be. I did love the twist after twist after twist, no matter how unbelievable it got.
I'm so glad you read Oona out of Order I picked it up on a wimb and LOVED IT! I've never read Midnight Library but thanks for the reccomendations. I just read Happy Plave it got me out of a month long reading slump. I cried so hard when I read Happy Place! I can't wait to see what you think!
similar to you I really love apocalyptic fiction (all of my favorites being recommendations from you) but arguably my biggest surprise of the year was a YA romance (neither of which I generally like) set a few months after a pandemic called All That's Left In The World that you may enjoy!
I really feel like People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry will be a 5 ⭐️ for you. Everyone talks about Beach Read but I gave it 3.5 ⭐️ Since you like books about order, I think you would like the setup of PWMOV.
Dangit Kayla… I was going to avoid getting Happy Place because I didn’t like People We Meet on Vacation. The way you described it made me give in 🤣 “Happy Place will appear in your library on all your Kindle apps and devices. It will also be automatically downloaded to Jordie's Kindle Paperwhite”
I'm SO glad I am not alone in thinking that Taylor Adams was a woman! I had a moment reading The Last Word when I flipped to the back to look at the author blurb and gasped when I saw a man looking back at me- I was shocked 😂
I’m not a Taylor Adams fan - I’m one of the few who didn’t like No Exit at all. But I thought The Last Word was just brilliant. So intentional and funny in its campiness, so meta, so wonderfully paced. I was very impressed and it’s probably my favorite read of the year so far.
I’m only 9mins so at your first book but I’m getting such The Other Times of Caroline Tangent from the vibe you love! Plus it heavily relates around music and was an absolutely fabulous read.
This concept is always so fun, even if they can't all be wins! I have a few recommendations I think you might like (or love)? Number one is Who Is Maud Dixon? because it's about writers, it has a MC thrown into an unfamiliar circumstance, and she's a kind of odd, morally grey character that's fun to read from. Wrong Place Wrong Time because it plays with time, and it has a woman thrown into an unfamiliar circumstance (time stuff) and having to work her way through. Death of a Bookseller because it's partly about writing, and it's just a weird, creepy, messy good time. And finally The Plot, because it has top tier writer shenanigans and I would recommend it for people who enjoyed The Writing Retreat.
I absolutely loved Oona Out Of Order ❤ i thought I read it last year but it was 2020! It was a 5 star for me. I’ve had Happy Place since it came out and haven’t gotten around to read it yet. Hopefully soon
I felt the same for The Last Word! I was so excited to read it. I think i ended up giving it 4 stars in the end - so pretty good! The dog thing just really drove me insane lol. I did like the fact that it just felt so intense from the very start - like you said, fairly predictable but still a couple twists (that i'm not sure anyone can really see coming)
Happy Place absolutely scooped my insides out. One if my exs that I was truly in love with broke up with me but we were in the same friend group so we had to be around eachother and he was fine so I had to act like I was fine and we were still really good friends and Happy Place just hauled those memories and the feelings out from the dark pit I'd shoved them down into for almost 15 years. I fucking love Emily Henry.
You really need to read The Stand In! I think I’ve seen you own it. It has fame in it but i think you’ll like it despite that because it’s got forced proximity, fake dating (kind of, unfamiliar circumstances and organisation!
SPEAKING OF FIVE STAR PREDICTIONS kind of unrelated to what you’re talking about in this vid but since you loved Finlay Donovan (I haven’t read it) I would recommend The Bandit Queens because the premise is similar and based on the vibes I think they’re close!! It’s funny and has drama and I’m having a really good time reading it!
I felt exactly the same as you when reading the happy place. It’s also my fave EH & I gave it 4.5 stars but it’s really a 4.25 lol. I loved the characters. The ending wasn’t my fave but I thoroughly enjoyed the reading experience! 🩷
Hearing about Oona Out Of Order, I wonder if you have read The Time Traveller's Wife? Sounds pretty similar (the 'jumping into the past and future' parts, not the 'teaching you something in life' part) and it's really good, sometimes stressful and heartwarming too.
Just started reading Acts of Violet also by Margarita Montimore and I'm loving it so far! It's in a podcast style and the audiobook has been super cool
Really enjoyed this video, so excited to start Happy Place soon and tempted now by some of the others but my TBR is big enough right now! I did think though that Diwali (the festival of light) is pronounced Dee-Vali (please correct me if I'm wrong) ❤
omg finally somebodys talking about “written by a man syndrome”!!! ive been talking about this for ages!! ive read so many books where either a) the opinions on gender are clearly a mans or b) it just skips all character/emotions for action or whatever and i just cant stand them even if the books not bad 😂
no, I SWEAR horror/thriller writers are using feminine sounding pen names on purpose. I can’t fully explain their motivations, but this is my conspiracy theory and I’m sticking to it.
“I love when I love books.” - Kayla, 2023. AND AMEN!!😆
I just wanna know what it's like to be someone who loves majority of what they pick up 😩
We don't have the same reading tastes at all, but there is something so joyful about watching someone else love the book they're reading.
I disliked both Oona and The Midnight Library, so I think that's accurate 😅
I did not like the Midnight Library at all but I liked Oona Out of Order.
Kayla: gives 5 stars to Oona.
Me: adds it to the TBR.
Kayla: this is for fans of the Midnight Library.
Me: *scratches it off the list*
lolololol same
Lol...😂😂 same
I did not like the Midnight Library but I really enjoyed Oona! I suggest you give it a try, they are very different, more likable characters for sure in Oona
same lmaoo
Sameeee
Dude horror 😂
Loved the chaotic cute pool scene and glad you enjoyed happy place!!
Kayla's latest vlog is here people, it's officially a GOOD DAY 🙌🏼
No seriously 😌🙌🏼
💕💕💕
I actually couldn’t be happier that you really enjoyed Happy Place! I was convinced you wouldn’t but I’m glad I was wrong. It’s my 2nd fav Emily Henry (right behind People We Meet on Vacation)
You’ve really got me wanting to read Oona Out of Order! Also I loved the section with just your reaction to reading it because I feel like we don’t get it all the time and it’s just pleasant to see people’s real time reaction to books they’re enjoying. 🙂
Liam in the background is amazing. Exactly how I feel with my two kiddos around while I'm working from home.
I read Oona out of order about a year ago when I’ve never heard of it before or seen anyone talk about it and loved it! Glad more people are reading it and liking it!
The majority of the time my five star predictions are wrong. I always set myself up for disappointment. I love your vlogs, excited to watch this 💖
“The service here is incredible”. 😂
"I love when I love books" get the merch rolling out now!!!
Even just watching you go through Happy Place made my heart swell. I loved that one so much!
"cause she's a bad ass" 😂
ok but the wedding planner could be a member movie night
I love the way you review books! You are honest and objective, even with books you love. Totally agree
I teared up watching you read the doom in Happy Place, remembering all the feels. Also I'm currently reading Seven Days in June, and it does feel similar.
I LOVED Oona out of order. One of my all time favorites
I had the same reaction to Oona Out of Order. I had to order my own copy immediately. It was amazing. I'm so glad you loved it! It was my Top Favorite book of that year for sure!
The way you were talking about Black Tide had me dying😂🤣
I loved Oona Out of Order and also had the experience where I just constantly wanted to be reading it and flew through it.
Omg, I am so glad you liked Oona out of order. The whole time I was reading it, I thought of you! I loved it too.
I really admire your creativity and your follow-through
Ahhh thank you so much !! 🤗💕
Hearing you describe Oona out of order makes me think of This Time Tomorrow
So glad you enjoyed Happy Place! It was just so sweet and heartfelt; got me in the feels. I almost cried at the end ❤
aww I'm so glad you had a good time with happy place 💖 other than book lovers, I haven't been a big fan of emily henry. and even I loved happy place. thank you for creating such a bright place on youtube that I trust I can go to when my day needs a little uplifting. two of my favorite things in one place; good people & good books. definitely my comfort channel. happy reading ☺
"Dude horror" - YES!! This is how i feel about books by David Wong, or Fiend by Peter Stenson. I do like it lol
Oona out of Order is published as The Rearranged Life of Oona Lockhart in the UK and I have reserved it at my local library. It sounds like a heartwarming read :)
I'm so glad you also loved Happy Place, and I agree with everything you said about The Last Word! That book was just so much fun and so chaotic haha.
Omg we should do the wedding planner or my best friends wedding (or both) for a besties movie night!!!
I’m so glad you talked about “Oona Out of Order”. I haven’t heard any other booktubers discuss it and it is so great! My favorite theme is books that play with time and this one did not disappoint.😊
The Road is a beautiful survivor/post-apocalyptic book ❤ The Last Word was so fun. I never thought a thriller could make me laugh so much.
I think I may start Happy Place today, if not then soon. I loved hearing your thoughts✨🥰
“Dude horror” - totally a thing!! I second this!
Oona out of order also reminded me of the movie About Time!!
the not feeling real life is such a mood LMAO i never had a way to explain it but it’s exactly that thanks for saying it
I love when we both read the same book around the same time. It was enjoyable hearing you talk about The Last Word when I just read it last week! I also couldn’t decide how to rate it. It was a quick read and fun and campy, but I’m not sure how memorable it will be. I did love the twist after twist after twist, no matter how unbelievable it got.
I have Oona on my TBR but am going to make it a priority now! I love books that deal with time!
i’d recommend HOW TO BE REMEMBERED if you like books that play with time and DO YOU TAKE THIS MAN for a wedding book!
Oona out of order has been on my tbr for some time now and I couldn't remember why. Now you got me excited to read it.
That and Happy Place.
I had a feeling you'd like Oona Out of Order. I thought it was such a unique take on time travel!
Loving the look of the K necklace they sent you even though you said you wouldn't have picked it for yourself! 💛
I loved Happy Place and feel exactly like you did about it!! I found it deeply relatable personally!! 🤣🤣🤣
similar to you I really love apocalyptic fiction (all of my favorites being recommendations from you) but arguably my biggest surprise of the year was a YA romance (neither of which I generally like) set a few months after a pandemic called All That's Left In The World that you may enjoy!
Your description of Black Tide had me giggling like crazy. Dude bro 😎
after a bad past week this is certainly a ray of sunshine ☀️🫶
Sending love 💕
I hope things look up for you soon 💕🫶🏻
As someone who often talks to her dog and then responds AS her dog out loud, I found that part of The Last Word very realistic 😂
I really feel like People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry will be a 5 ⭐️ for you. Everyone talks about Beach Read but I gave it 3.5 ⭐️ Since you like books about order, I think you would like the setup of PWMOV.
The grid background in the thumbnails is really doing it for me lately 😍 I need a blue one! 👀💙😂
Liam in the background being chaotic is giving me life 😂
Dangit Kayla… I was going to avoid getting Happy Place because I didn’t like People We Meet on Vacation. The way you described it made me give in 🤣
“Happy Place will appear in your library on all your Kindle apps and devices.
I feel like your summer freckles are going off! So cute
I'd love to see stats on ratings given to different publishers
I’m not a Taylor Adams fan - I’m one of the few who didn’t like No Exit at all. But I thought The Last Word was just brilliant. So intentional and funny in its campiness, so meta, so wonderfully paced. I was very impressed and it’s probably my favorite read of the year so far.

Oh, I loved Oona Out of Order!
I absolutely loved Oona Out Of Order ❤ i thought I read it last year but it was 2020! It was a 5 star for me. I’ve had Happy Place since it came out and haven’t gotten around to read it yet. Hopefully soon
Liam being goofy in the pool in the background is giving 10/10 summer vibes
I read Oona years ago (it’s called The Rearranged Life of Oona Lockhart in the Uk (?)) and enjoyed it a lot 😊
I got teary in happy place too 🥺 loved that book
I felt the same way about the Dog inner dialogue parts. Oh. I hated it.
Can't wait for your review of Yellowface!
Also so scared because I picked up a copy of Black Tide after watching your try-a-chapter 🙈
I was waiting for your review on happy place to see if I should pick it up and I think I will now!
Not alone about the dog perspective for The Last Word. Same girl, same lol
I'm so happy you love a romance i love!!! happy place is my fav emily henry too
I also loved Oona out of order and gave it 5 stars! Gave the last word and happy place both 4 stars
You really need to read The Stand In! I think I’ve seen you own it. It has fame in it but i think you’ll like it despite that because it’s got forced proximity, fake dating (kind of, unfamiliar circumstances and organisation!
The EXCITEMENT I feel whenever a Kayla video pops up in my subcription box!!!
“I love when I love books.” - PERIOD. (Also my thoughts while reading The Only One Left 👀)
Your son standing on the unicorn near the edge of the pool is giving me palpitations!!!!!!!
I felt exactly the same as you when reading the happy place. It’s also my fave EH & I gave it 4.5 stars but it’s really a 4.25 lol. I loved the characters. The ending wasn’t my fave but I thoroughly enjoyed the reading experience! 🩷
I gave the last word 3 stars. It was fine. I loved the dog perspective lol I too speak for my dog so it was relatable to me 😂
Hearing about Oona Out Of Order, I wonder if you have read The Time Traveller's Wife? Sounds pretty similar (the 'jumping into the past and future' parts, not the 'teaching you something in life' part) and it's really good, sometimes stressful and heartwarming too.
Been waiting for your review on happy place!
Omg i can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Oona Out of Order! I read this in January and really liked it! ☺️✨
“I’ve got my finger on the pulse of dude fiction” 😂😂😂😂😂
My exact feelings on happy place. Gave it 5✨ just because of the feet kicks though.
Thank you for feeding my TBR 🎉
My best friend's wedding... so entertaining!!!
OMGosh! It is my favorite Emily Henry too! And I am an Aries ♈️
When I recommend "Happy Place," I say I liked "Book Lovers" more but "Happy Place" made me cry. Both are good but for different reasons.
Just started reading Acts of Violet also by Margarita Montimore and I'm loving it so far! It's in a podcast style and the audiobook has been super cool
Ooh very excited to see your thoughts on Yellowface
I LOVED Oona Out of Order
Really enjoyed this video, so excited to start Happy Place soon and tempted now by some of the others but my TBR is big enough right now! I did think though that Diwali (the festival of light) is pronounced Dee-Vali (please correct me if I'm wrong) ❤
Ahhhh thank you for another vlog 💗🥹
a new Kayla video is the best way to wake up!
omg finally somebodys talking about “written by a man syndrome”!!! ive been talking about this for ages!! ive read so many books where either a) the opinions on gender are clearly a mans or b) it just skips all character/emotions for action or whatever and i just cant stand them even if the books not bad 😂
Kayla!!!! I love that necklace ❤ it’s so pretty on you 🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵
Seeing you cry reading Happy Place... scared me just a tiny bit 😅
A great romance series set in an apocalyptic scenario is the Off the Grid series by Alyssa Cole!
no, I SWEAR horror/thriller writers are using feminine sounding pen names on purpose. I can’t fully explain their motivations, but this is my conspiracy theory and I’m sticking to it.
Vlogs are my favorite thing 💓
If you haven't read The Rook, you should. It fits "fish out of water" perfectly. 😊
