Finally a video of a reaction to this game's music. WoC may have it's share of flaws, but holy fuck does it's music not pull it's punches. Honestly Compactor Reactor's theme's start + the minecart track is one of the better syncronised themes. Kinda the most memorable part.
This game was part of the PS2/GC era so it's pretty unlikely that there'd be instrument limitations at this point. The way I see it is that some games have their own musical "identity", perhaps because the whole ost was made by the same person or team who likes specific instruments or combinations of instruments, and try to evoke settings with those specific instruments instead of going for the more obvious choices. This game, Twinsanity and also the PS2 era Ratchet & Clank games come to mind in particular when I think of soundtracks with a strong identity.
Phenomenal comment. That would make a lot of sense. I admittedly didn't do too much research into the composers before hand, at least I don't remember doing it 6 months ago... Maybe I did? (Ha) But I hope you enjoyed the video. Thanks for the comment!
@@Flynny No problem, I'm into both video games and music so I really enjoyed this video, it's pretty refreshing to see this type of content. But yeah, one thing I love about video game soundtracks is how different composers have their own "artstyle", it's one of the main things that make them memorable to me.
Great video!! I would definitely love a part 2 to this maybe with other crash games like warped with the different time periods or Crash 2’s similar environments to woc. And managed to get 8/9 of the levels right, only got weathering heights wrong.
Nice job on the 8/9! I listened to a random part of weathering heights while editing this video, and it started at the piano and horn segment shortly after the middle of the song and I couldn't pinpoint the level too. It's definitely an odd song, but a great one nonetheless
Means a lot coming from another creator! When I have time free I'm definitely going to try and pump out more content. I have a little bit of time on my hands for the next couple of weeks so expect to see some more :)
Clever video! For people who don't think video game music is as sophisticated as "normal" music, they are ignorant and don't realize just how much goes into creating an appropriate atmosphere. Good work!
Meep. (Hey Flynny! Love your Wrath of Cortez content! It’s a very game underrated game but it’s music it’s a gem! Btw, off topic but have you played Crash Bandicoot: Back in Time? I think you might enjoy it since you could make wrath of cortex levels lol)
@@Flynny Meep. (Oh you replied! Nice! I meant that Back in Time, it’s a crash bandicoot fan game that lets you make your own 2D bonus round styled levels. Like a mini mario maker but for Crash Bandicoot hehe. I think you’ll like it!)
The music in this game, if not THE ENTIRE ALBUM, was way ahead of its time. I've listened to the entire soundtrack so many times I've lost count. The game is far from perfect, but *IN MY OPINION* it has the best soundtrack in the franchise, and the only ones that are at this level are Twinsanity and Tag team racing.
good video :) subscribed :)
having a musician breakdown and guessing game compositions is a really fun idea, i'd personally love to see more of it

Wrath of the Cortex has the best soundtrack of the Crash series. I think you should have showed him "Wizards and Lizards"

10:01 no joke I somehow felt this was the next track
Yeah same

Pls, make a part 2 with other Crash games
I also think Titans/Mind over Mutant could be done, too. Both have very atmospheric soundtracks. I also enjoy them.
This is kinda funny because I was showing my friend music from this game and twinsanity
I've been following your channel for a couple years now and love the content you put out. this video was great please do more!

This was a great video! The musicians take on everything was very accurate. Would love to see more like this.

The man is back with a banger
You should do these with crash of the titans and mind over mutant
Avalanche is my favourite level and music track.

No wizards and lizards is a tragedy
Drain Damage is the hardest beat in this game
I guessed all of the songs wrong 😭
Nice.👍🏻
