Mephisto is notorious for being the thinker in his little family. He would never have allowed the player and his allies to reach him if he truly felt threatened. His plan is pretty smart. If the stone was used on Lilith then it was exactly as he said. He would remain in hell to reconstitute himself and regain power. But since they use the stone on him now he has time to turn Nyrelle into another dark wanderer. He set it up so that no matter what happens he wins. Clever.
Mephisto as this wolf is already a billion times more character development than any of the prime evils had in any of the other diablo games. In the past you heard they were supposed to be this and that but the prime evils were just mindless drones you fought. Props to the team for this, I really enjoyed it

Blizzard could take the cliche story route with all 3 prime evils return and you have to kill them but instead it not so it good imo. And Mephisto actually looks powerful unlike in D2.

Mephisto was one of the best parts of Diablo 4. We've known him until now impersonally, simply as a monster to be fought and destroyed, but we haven't really interacted with him person-to-person. Also, ironically, Nyrelle, despite trying to not do what Mephisto wanted, ended up doing pretty much what he wanted. He used reverse psychology on her and now she'll be Dark Wanderer 2.0.
Don't think Neyrelle using the stone on him was part of his plan, but I do love how he, despite her not listening to him, opens a portal for her to escape from lilith with the stone

While I like his character, I actually disagree about his voice. Nothing against the voice actor, wish I had a voice like that lol. But I always imagined Mephisto as having a much more abrasive, spiteful, and piercing voice. You know, a voice with a lot of HATE behind it.

Really curious what Mephisto will bring over to the story in Diablo 4's next season, he has been the most underutilized of the 3 brothers ever since D2 yet has tons of rich lore behind him. You know he has a grand plan on all of this and we just so happened to give him the key to his return in the ending.
DLC 1 but at the end of it , the question is ...will Mephisto help Diablo again ? Or it will go against it and that would make Diablo simply absorbing Mephisto.
@@alexdurain3753 The soulstone does not have to be attuned to a specific demon but the realm they hail from. It was attuned to Hatred which works for both Lilith and Mephisto, that's why they were able to choose
Definitely felt like Mephisto intentionally let Nyrelle capture him in the stone with no resistance. Then casually opened a portal for her to escape despite prior to that saying to her and your character that "you would never escape hell before Lilith catches you."
it's a shame they couldnt get paul eiding to do his voice again, and on I story note, I get the feeling that the characters were played by Mephisto. Since he knew they would have doubts about his word, he tells them the opposite of what he wants and let their doubts do the rest. He made them save him, and as his final words were "You have sealed your fate...".

Not much happened to him between D2 and D4 , he went from one soulstone to another, same as his brothers. When Malthael was defeated, their souls got released again, and they're now all reforming in hell
I'm really glad the wolf ended up actually being Mephisto. Despite being the defacto leader if Hell, it was really a shame we got so little of him in D2. These cutscenes definetly help characterise him more.

Glad mephisto has the spotlight this time. He was underutilized in D2 as the Act3 boss.
Steve Blum lulled us all into a sense of false security by voicing every single character exactly the same way, specifically for this moment.
Mephisto mellowed over time. But that doesn’t deter him from his goal to corrupt humanity and use humanity’s potential to end the Eternal Conflict.
