Hootie and The Blowfish were always kind of country. So this really isn't all that much of a departure from the 90s style to be honest. Pretty good if I do say so myself.
The people saying they sound 'too country' should go back and listen to Hold My Hand and Time. This would definitely fit on the Cracked Rearview Mirror album. And really, you are making the case that Country isn't country anymore. At least right now. The strength of Darius' vocals can't be denied in either genre. Quit frankly, I prefer Darius' country songs that have more of a H&B sound to them, so maybe I'm biased? Song shows that the group still has what it takes to get together and have a reunion album. More power to them for revisiting their roots and their sound. I'm looking forward to hearing the entire album. And more power to any artist who has more to say than just what their pigeon-holed little box says they should say. Don't sell it as something it's not, and people who truly enjoy good music will listen without the "I hate this" and "I hate that" genre references.
