  • Your Ford Interceptor probably did not come with a remote (key fob), but you can add one very easily! This video shows how to buy and program fobs for 2016-2019 Interceptors. By the end, you’ll know which fob you need and how to use it.

      Antonio, that’s good to know. So in FORScan, it seems that…
      Police Rear Door = ENABLED -> trunk button on fob unlatches the hatch with one button press / overhead button can also be used to release hatch
      Police Rear Door = DISABLED -> trunk button on fob unlatches the hatch with two button presses / unlock button also can be used to release hatch

      @reidthemanual  11 місяців тому

      The prompts are worded for those number keypads on the exterior of a driver’s door, but the process will work for the fobs. You can basically ignore the pop-up instructions. In my video, I show that even with a dead battery (no button presses) the programming process works.
      If you have an authentic Ford fob but it doesn’t work after completing the program (entering in the long code that came with your fob), I would bet you need to replace the battery in the fob. As you saw in my video, they can be dead when you receive them.
      Go buy a new battery and try the fob again. As long as you have keyless entry activated in Forscan and you entered the long code correctly, you will not need to program it again.

    • @reidthemanual
      @reidthemanual  6 місяців тому

      Hi, Mary! Yes, you should be able to add exterior Keypads using the same FORScan process. The prompts actually seem to be written with Keypads in mind (probably because keypad installs used to be common at dealerships).
      When you get your Genuine Ford keypad, it should come with two numbers.
      1. A 48-character TIC code just like the fobs I purchased in the video
      2. A 4 to 6-digit master access code
      With those two numbers in hand, please try the process in the video. If you have any problems, let me know and I can recommend a couple of things. Absolute worst case is a dealer could do it, but it should not come to that.

    What do you think about doing everything you did in forscan except mess with the TIC code? Instead I was thinking about trying those cheap Ford key fobs from Amazon. There is a video of a guy programing a 2013 Interceptor using the turning the key 8 times method. Do you know if this would work?

    • @reidthemanual
      @reidthemanual  11 місяців тому +1

      From what I understand, the “key cycling” method works on 2011-2015 interceptors. (sedan and utility). 2016 and newer require programming the body control module to accept a particular fob. As far as I know, the fobs I list are the only ones you can program to a newer interceptor.
      My Ford dealer tried the key cycling method on my 2016 with an old fob they had laying around and they had no success. At that point I decided to do it on my own (they were not very familiar with the process required).

      Thanks for asking. At this time, I believe you will need a license for Ford Diagnostic & Repair System (FDRS) software and/or Integrated Diagnostic Software (IDS) and a compatible scan tool in order to program fobs to a 2020 or newer Explorer or FPIU.
      As long as you have one functional transponder key or fob,….
      - there are some aftermarket blade keys you can buy that can reportedly be programmed using accompanying OBD modules
      - you can buy an OEM or aftermarket key or fob and have a dealer, locksmith, or other qualified professional program it to the vehicle

      Hi, Connor. On a 2013 Taurus (Police Interceptor Sedan), you should be able to use the older fobs and the “ignition cycling” method. It’s the same easy process used on the 2011-2015 Interceptor Utilities. No computer is required and the fobs are easier to find/buy. Just make sure you get the right fobs-they look nearly identical to the ones I used but do NOT come with TIC codes.

      Hi thanks for the reply! I figured it out after a while. The 8 cycles did not work at first for me no matter what I tried. I had to go in with Forscan first and change some IPC BCM codes for it to program. Also I used an aftermarket eBay key fob. So as long as it’s for a ford it will work. I’m not sure why I needed to change things with Forscan first as in many other videos it worked right off the rip. However I got it done and am severely relieved everything worked .

    • @reidthemanual
      @reidthemanual  26 днів тому

      Hi, Hunter. No, your vehicle has a certain number (4, I think) of programming “slots” for fobs. When you add a fob in FORScan, it uses the first vacant slot it can find. It cannot (last I knew) overwrite or erase fobs that have already been programmed.
      This means that you can only add a fob if there is a vacant slot. If you need/want to remove a fob from memory (vacate a slot), then you will need to take your vehicle to a dealer or qualified locksmith. It normally requires software and security certifications to access those features.

    if anyone ever wonders why ford interceptors honk twice when locking it is because the hood pin for the factory remote start was removed. the remote start is still installed by default in all new ford interceptors but ford removes the hood pin because the customer A.K.A the police department doesnt want to pay for that feature.

      Here are the possible outcomes (as far as I know) of clicking the LOCK button on the fob TWICE:
      1. Horn does NOT honk and all doors lock (my preferred programming)
      2. Horn honks once and all doors lock (standard Explorer programming)
      3. Horn honks twice and some doors lock (one or more doors are seen as ajar)

    • @reidthemanual
      @reidthemanual  Місяць тому

      Joel, if the codes are not inside, then they are likely not genuine Ford remotes, or they are the older generation of fobs (before TIC codes). Did you buy these from an authorized Ford reseller?

    • @reidthemanual
      @reidthemanual  9 місяців тому

      I have never tried it, but I’ve read that the 2020 and newer Explorers require another process to program the fobs. Not sure if a DIYer can do it.
      2011-2015: fob programming via key switch cycling.
      2016-2019: fob programming via FORScan or IDS.
      2020-present: take to a dealer???
      Anyone here know differently?

      Go into the body control module. Find “Police Rear Door” and set it to “Disable.” Let me know if that works for you.

    To follow up from my previous comment....sadly, a second key fob ordered doesn't work. The first one took Slot 4 automatically. When programming the 2nd one, the dialog box popped up asking me which slot to overwrite. I started with Slot 1, then moved to Slots 2 and 3. Still doesn't work. What's weird is the serial numbers it shows in the Slots are all different. Wouldn't Slot 1-3 show me the same serial number since I overwrote it with the TIC code of the 2nd keyfob? Confirmed battery is fine. It almost seems like that now all 4 slots are full, even though Forscan is saying it successfully overwrote the slot, it's like it's not actually taking hold.

    • @reidthemanual
      @reidthemanual  11 місяців тому

      If you are willing to experiment more, here is what I suggest:
      1. Switch the batteries between the two fobs (just for good measure). If the dead one is still dead, move to step 2.
      2. Overwrite slot 4 with the TIC code from the dead fob. If the overwrite process is in fact working, then the good fob should stop working. Then program the good fob back to slot 1. If the dead fob won’t program to slot #2, unfortunately the fob must be bad (or the wrong part number). Order a new fob (return old one to seller). If the overwrite process did not work and the dead fob is still dead and the live fob is still live, move to step 3.
      3. Without a way to overwrite the slots, you will need to visit a dealer. Tell them you have successfully programmed a fob but the other slots are full and they should help you. They may initially say “interceptors aren’t compatible with key fobs… you need additional modules, etc.” but you will be able to show them that you have a functioning fob.

      I'm having a very similar issue to @dstho3471 on a 2017 Explorer Interceptor . I tried programming 3 diff remotes. All were the exact part number specified as - GB5Z-15K601-C in Ford branded packaging. ForScan always says it wants to program slot 4, but never gives me a choice to program a different slot if the rest are filled. ForScan says it wrote successfully, and the message traffic is exactly like in the video, but none have worked. I changed the battery in fob 1, but not fobs 2-3, so will try that as well. I'll do some additional research and report back what I figure out. Thanks @Reid the Manual for the video!

      @@reidthemanual Hey! Wanted to let you know I tried your suggestions and I've essentially attempted to overwrite all 4 slots with the fob that isn't working. Unfortunately, it didn't work. The first fob I programmed is still working even though I overwrote the slot with the other fob, so it seems despite what Forscan is saying, the programming isn't overwriting the slots. I'm sad :(

      I’ll keep looking into this. Programming fobs to the BCM is a very new feature to FORScan, so there is not much information out there on the capabilities of the software in this area. You might need to visit a Ford dealer so they can use IDS to overwrite slots in the BCM.

      There are settings in FORScan for that. Look for options containing the word “telltail” and enable them.

    • @reidthemanual
      @reidthemanual  6 місяців тому

      Thanks for asking. No, adding fobs is actually much easier on the 2011-2015 FPIUs. You simply cycle the key a certain number of times in the ignition and then click button on your new remote(s).
      They require different fobs though, so please watch a video on those years for the correct part numbers.
