Wolverine had a pretty rich history taking place in Japan in the comics so it was cool that they did this in a movie
Wished they made Hugh Jackman actually learn ninjitsu and samurai fighting man.
Woulda made him a billion times cooler AND comic accurate!

The Rogue scenes are neat but I’d argue the theatrical version is paced much better. Theatrical is my go to for rewatches.
In the comics, Wolverine actually lived in Japan for about a century, and he was fluent in Japanese. He also had a fling or two with Yukio, who was an assassin. She always gave him a hard time for being in love with Mariko. Regardless, I loved this movie. We needed to see him in Japan. It is a big part of who he is.
Logan but its the beginning of his status comform in the mcu where he lives with her and meets Hawkeye's villains before meeting the Avengers in the 2012 canon event or we have him land in America decades later.
I remember in the comics when he lived and trained in Japan, he stopped smoking and killed a guy that had single blades like Wolverine *

James Mangold was the perfect director for this movie and Logan. He has the best grasp of any director on who Wolverine really is, a man who feels he’s lived too long and lost too many loved ones to bear, who wants more than anything to find a sense of peace and purpose, but will drop all of that to defend or avenge the helpless.
And for non comic readers, yes Logan spent a long time in Japan, in fact in the original canon Logan met Yuriko (Deathstrike from X2) in Japan and the 2 became lovers, then became mortal enemies.

he was worthless, Silver Samurai is not a Celestial, Sentry or Owen Reece, he cant atomize adamantium, he cant heat or cold it, it is adamantium, the director was clueless and should have been fired
@@Belnick6666 are you okay? Everything in that sentence was wrong. Also you know that the 3rd act when Logan gets to the ninjas and onward was absolutely riddled with studio notes and not what Mangold wanted to do.
TAS did this very well.
Mangold actually sucks as a director. His tone was way too depressing even for wolverine. I still liked the movie but it could have been much more! So much more!
In the comics wolverine lives in Japan for decades. He even has a child with a Japanese Woman called Itsu, before she's assassinated by the winter soldier. The child grows up to be a villain called Daken.
Never knew that....what's a good comic to read that story?

This is actually a decent Wolverine movie, and it has some pretty good action scenes like that bullet train fight. It is a pretty good concept for Wolverine in Japan.
I like it's story it's progression & most importantantly it shows what Wolverine/Logan is beyond his powers his Spirit his will to fight

There’s a great story on how in order to get in the best shape of his life Hugh Jackman went to visit The Rock while he was filming a movie to ask for workout and diet tips, and when a PA went to The Rock’s trailer to all him to set he merely told the PA “Tell them to wait for a minute I’m giving Wolverine workout advice.”
this was another great stand-alone Wolverine movie, plus seeing him fight against "The Silver Samurai" made it even more enjoyable

When Logan said "you don't want what I got" he wasn't referring to his healing his mutationnhas another part rarely explored outside the comics and its his berserker mode because that's what really makes Logan dangerous

I never understood why a lot of people don't like this Wolverine movie in Japan! I know he's not one of the character's best films, but I still really like this film, along with Logan!
We hated seeing Wolverine get his claws chopped off. We hated the lack of mutants in the movie. We hated what they did to silver samurai. This came out between first class & days of future past. It comparison it was pretty boring
it was pretty good up until the third act. It was fairly grounded and then boom a mechanized silver samurai outta nowhere pulled us out. Lots of people would've preferred a normal sized silver samurai and wolverine actually sword fighting with him but that fight was lacking. The claws getting chopped off was also unnecessary and also barely any wolverine vs ninjas in the film. We get a bit of that in the extended cut.
@squarebiz90 You don't speak for everyone. Wolverine still got his claws back, other mutants weren't the main focus, and Silver Samurai was great/never looked better.

There's a deleted scene for this movie which features Logan and Yukio on the plane at the very end, and Yukio gives Logan a case. He opens it up and what does he find... He looks at her like "really?!" Then it cuts to Yukio with a smile, "Interesting."

This film was redemption after Origins. Unfortunately a lot of people missed it because of the previous Wolverine film being lackluster. He has such a rich history in Japan so this one was really for the comic fans. Everyone's going to be looking forward to the Logan reaction now.

Bears scratch trees to mark their territory as well as the usual pee marking.
Logan scratching over the bear claw marks with LARGER marks signals to the bear that something bigger has claimed the area.
More than that I think it was a buddy move a shared territory

In the first X men movie, didn't the humans develop a drug capable of taking away mutant powers? The mutants were willing to take it because they thought that loss of their powers would help them escape prejudice and live a normal life. It brings an interesting argument. Logan finds superhealing and longer life as a curse but simultaneously prefers to keep it. It is a part of him.
Next is X-Men days of future past which is a great X-Men movie both the theatrical cut and the rogue cut

I didn’t realize till now that it’s the same director as Logan, maybe the bad taste from origins attributed to that, I think I wasn’t thrilled about it back the. But I’ve warmed up to it for sure ( I get the feeling I don’t get why people hate the marvels or she hulk and now….. people are starting to hate on the boys when what the complaints are about were the show the entire time they just weren’t paying attention)

A common criticism from fans was that Logan could barely cut loose in the previous action scenes, so James Mangold promised to show a less 'watered down' Wolverine for the fights this time, and he really delivered. He also promised to make up for the much maligned X-Men Origins with a better Wolverine solo movie, which is why this goes so hard! And even though his next one, "Logan", surpassed it, I haven't forgotten that this movie was awesome too.
This is where the fun begins!!!! I love Wolverine's comic stories in Japan!! Its extraordinary and exciting! 🙏🏽💪

Alot of my favorite wolverine stories in comics are in Japan he masters the sword. Develops a code of honor. It's where he really learns to be a man not just a killing machine after he got the adamantium in his bones.
It's almost unfortunate Logan was so beloved because in turn the good quality in this didn't get the attention it deserves. I "liked" it but better I was immersed the entire time. I also noticed this film in particular tends to resonate with war veterans though I'm not entirely what of it is doing that. Still a positive checkmark in it's favor especially if they were actually going for that effect.

This movie is meaningful because it indirectly foreshadows The Wolverine we see in Logan. Ex: His pain and suffering, and the dieing with his heart in his hand. Don't forget Yukio said she's never wrong.
Also a lot of people tend to think you know, with Wolverine having accelerated healing factor you know, he heals from everything. Yes, his body does heal himself, but the factors he's not invulnerable to pain. He still has his pain receptors. He can't shut those off. There are other characters that can shut off their pain receptors. But he's not one of them. He feels every gunshot every knife. Stab everything. It's not like he doesn't feel it. He just says in some cases come accustomed to it. I still would not like to be stabbed even if I knew I had a healing factor I mean like I don't wanna feel that it was one time in the comic books he said. He knew he was going to get shot up by this guy with a machine gun and he was like. Oh my God, I'm going to be s******* up. Bullets for the whole night. It was the funniest thing, but he was right in the next panel. In the comics, you saw him on the toilet, just pooping out bullet
The Japanese flag has been the circle for a long time. The flag shown in the film is the Japanese war flag and also its naval flag. The army and navy have their own versions. The one in the film is the naval version with the offset sun and rays, while the army uses a centered version.
22:25 Funnily enough that's been featured in a Superman comic as a way Doomsday was defeated. I don't remember how far back it was but in the comic Lex Luthor had found a way to increase Doomsday's intelligence thinking it would make him a deadlier threat to Superman but instead Doomsday learned to fear the pain of the injuries he sustained fighting Superman.

50 years ago, Wolverine debuted in Marvel Comics from an appearance with The Incredible Hulk to a newly recruited member with the X--Men.
But in 1982, his first-ever solo series by Frank Miller (300, Sin City) and Chris Claremont (1970s X-Men) defined the character of Logan.
His story was set in Japan and Logan's life was likened to that of an Ronin (samurai with no master).
He has the heart to stand against opposition, but is still learning/finding a direction in life.
The film uses elements from the solo series and is set long after the events of X3:The Last Stand.
This is Hugh Jackman's 2nd film with director James Mangold following the romantic comedy, Kate & Leopold (2001).
Struggling with Jean's death, finding his place in the world and losing his healing temporarily is the most drama.
The action, romance, suspense, intrigue of being a Gajin (outsider) caught in someone else's battle really feels like the comics.
2 of the antagoniss;Viper is originally human and known as Madame Hydra in the Captain America comics.
Yashida in the Silver Samurai suit is based on the Silver Samurai and Ogun characters/known Wolverine villains.
A really good sequel, rightfully steps ahead of and more loved than X-Men Origins:Wolverine.
But both Logan & Professor X (solo/together) would soon face even greater obstacles.
The evolution was not over and I personally couldn't wait to see so much more in this universe.
The character Silver Samurai (Kenuichio Harada) in the comics is a mutant that has the power to imbue things he's holding with a tachyon field (commonly his Katana) that can cut through almost anything (adamantium being one of the things it can't cut).
They did Harada dirty by not having him becoming the Silver Samurai and that nonsense Mecha. Loved everything in this film but that.
@@JamesSerapio I kinda had issues with Wolverine's claw exit points healing despite his healing being slowed. He should have needed bandages every time. Or they could have left him his healing and just had more powerful enemies. In the comics during his trips to Japan, he's gotten beaten by non mutants before.

It might have been a touch problematic for the film if he bled every time he drew his claws. 😅

The archer is played by Will Yun Lee. In the early to mid 00s he was in quite a lot. He was in the film Torque, played the general at the start of the bond film, Die another Day, although his character came back as Toby Stephens in the role later and he was in the dare devil spin off, Elektra.
Probably the best role he's ever had was playing the original Takeshi Kovacs in the first season of Altered Carbon.
He's my favorite character in the Good Doctor.
