David Draiman of Disturbed, and ex-Filter guitarist Geno Lenardo recently collaborated together to construct Device. The album takes strands from hard rock, industrial, and electronica, and as a result, Device's self-titled debut album for Warner Bros. Records is a focused, fierce, and fiery new machine.
It all started while the Grammy Award-nominated multiplatinum powerhouse Disturbed was on hiatus, Lenardo reached out to Draiman to collaborate on a song for the Underworld: Awakening soundtrack in late 2011. As soon as the singer heard the music, he was both intrigued and inspired. The duo then cut "Hunted" in Chicago. Even though the track didn't ultimately make the final soundtrack album due to circumstances beyond their control, Draiman urged that they hold on to it and continue writing music. Soon, they had an entire album's worth of material.
Upon finishing the record, Draiman enlisted Evanescence drummer Will Hunt and Dope and Rock of Ages guitarist Virus. Both Hunt and Virus jumped at the chance to be a part of this powerhouse trio. The three comprise the touring incarnation of Device.

Serj Tankian has some seriously amazing lungs. How it is he can keep the same pitch and hold it for so long befuddles me.
That's one of the reasons I hold David in such high regard; his grasp of the English language and how he employs it and weaves it into his songs paints a vivid and many times haunting/dark picture, something few artists can even scratch

Pretty sure that was the intent. Draiman can't exactly change the way he sings so he doesn't sound exactly the same and it is his first attempt at another genre. It was never meant to be strictly rock.
Personally I think this is some of Draiman's best vocal work.

It's not ridiculous, it is proven psychological fact. Every instance in which an armed would-be victim stands up to the shooter has ended with virtually no one injured, and the shooter dead one way or another.
I think Terj was an excellent choice. Aside from Lzzy this is my favorite guest appearance. Terj's vocals compliment David's perfectly in this song.

the guitar for the entire album is amazing but the thing that really holds system of a down to me is the political tones and the amazing guitar work of Serj and the fact that device manages to allow that to so fluently blend with their own sound without either one overpowering the other makesa song that has not only a great message but epic guitar and vocals and to me is one of the best songs on the album
Love the lyrics serj says, " another child denied their basic human right to live" That could also be a statement against those who support abortion. Not to mention I love the idea of an anti-Obama song. But I have been wondering for a while exactly which political views artists like David and Serj have. Can't really say this is Anti-Obama. They specifically talk about whoever this song's about's religion into it, but I never really hear Obama use religion as a defense for his actions. If anything, it sounds like a song about terrorists. Anyhow, the song isn't in any way overt about who it's about, so it could be for anyone. Maybe one of them has a really bad mother in law?

1994ThePhenom1994 No, that's why I said that it was a hip-hop influenced song, not that it was hip-hop. The metronomic flow of spoken words, rhythmically alligned with the base and drums is a standard part of "nu-metal" as something gained from it's hip-hop legacy.
That's why I dig Serj and David so much. They really take pages from a non-metal genre in order to make a unique sound in each of their respective groups.

how do you stop someone with a gun that is very much intent on shooting innocent people (or children in the school scene)? me personally, would very much like to have a gun of my own at that moment to protect myself and those around me. I'm not a idiot either, but I do realize that the person with a gun in those type situations has a very very high advantage over the person, or people without a weapon. The "restricting laws" only restrict the law abiding person, the victim.
Here is an idea: let teachers have guns. Take off the "no guns" signs on schools that paint them as easy targets. Every time someone goes postal and starts shooting, they stop when someone else with a gun shows up and confronts them. Recently, a shooting at a mall was stopped when an off-duty cop pulled her pistol on the gunman, who shot himself. No one was injured. Guns averted the whole crisis by someone who technically wasn't allowed to have a gun there. People would have died otherwise.

every interview serj tankian has given is based on his political views, so it won't be hard to look it up yourself. serj has stated that he supported obama on the previous elections, although he was disappointed of him, mainly because obama didn't resolve the issue of the recognition of the armenian genocide.

Obama is definitely not that bad, but he's not very good either. He tries to act like he knows what is best for every person in the world, and issues blanket laws that aren't very effective. I'm a libertarian because I know that nobody knows what is best for all of society.

Not to diminish the Anti-Obama concept put forth, but I think the lyrics are more about Iran's Ahmadinejad than Obama. As Draiman has used similar lyrical style in a past song involving him as a holocaust denier. Although I do like it for a potential Anti-Obama anthem though.

Despite all the hate I am going to get from disturbed fans for this, I think that the song would sound much better if it was just Serj doing the singing.
The only other artist that comes to mind is Maynard James Keenan. He and David are probably the best vocalists/song writers of this generation.
