David Draiman of Disturbed, and ex-Filter guitarist Geno Lenardo recently collaborated together to construct Device. The album takes strands from hard rock, industrial, and electronica, and as a result, Device's self-titled debut album for Warner Bros. Records is a focused, fierce, and fiery new machine.
It all started while the Grammy Award-nominated multiplatinum powerhouse Disturbed was on hiatus, Lenardo reached out to Draiman to collaborate on a song for the Underworld: Awakening soundtrack in late 2011. As soon as the singer heard the music, he was both intrigued and inspired. The duo then cut "Hunted" in Chicago. Even though the track didn't ultimately make the final soundtrack album due to circumstances beyond their control, Draiman urged that they hold on to it and continue writing music. Soon, they had an entire album's worth of material.
Upon finishing the record, Draiman enlisted Evanescence drummer Will Hunt and Dope and Rock of Ages guitarist Virus. Both Hunt and Virus jumped at the chance to be a part of this powerhouse trio. The three comprise the touring incarnation of Device.
Device might use industrial themes... but you can still hear the darkness of Disturbed. David Draimann... Device or Disturbed... No difference. Awesome
The four D's of Awesome.
David Draimann-Disturbed-Device
+Roger Dillinger *o*
As long as he still sings, Well not that pip shit, Any band who can play for him will do.
I love this song. I am listening to it while playing Bloodborne, and it's amazing!
i agree they arent taking advantage of his great voice, its sounds so much like disturbed. i would like this new adventure of david's when they capitalize better on his voice and match the vocals and lyrics too the song and rhythm. Disturbed is a perfect harmony of musicians, dont need this whateva it is.
I feel his voice sounds alot different on the Device record.
damn i love the way he sings
Disturbed obviously worked so for David to flip his style completely would be pretty unproductive, so I completely agree
I love this. It is like eating a disturbed steak with techno seasoning and a side dish of grunge-type rock. I love it.
Listen to more music, moreover, this song has similar samples to Nine Inch Nail's "Reptile". :3
you left half the lyrics out and misspelled most of them. Don't make a lyric video unless properly educated.
Just giving honest feedback, jackass.
I highly doubt they're the "biggest pussies"
who gives a fuck if it's misspelled enjoy the music quit complaining
It's a lyric video... There are supposed to be accurate lyrics.
Sonny DemonicSin why the fuck make a lyric video if you fuck it up
Both songs are great. I prefer Disturbed's, The Animal, because its more aggressive.
Lost Children wasn't a stand alone album... It was a Compilation of B-Sides...
I miss Disturbed, but shit, I like this Device thing going on.
It's basically Device's version of "The Animal" by Disturbed.
this song is about vampires . The animal is about werevolves.
ELISA STRANGEHUMANBEING LMFAOOOOO
All the songs they write are about religion, spirituality, prophecies, ect,. They're not freaking Twilight fans, they're talking about real life. It's sad how you just naively assume the meanings of a song with such ease.
He said in a fucking interview that it was about vampires . Resident evil not twilight .
Twilight movies arent the only vamp. Movies for the fuck sake!
ELISA STRANGEHUMANBEING OF COURSE he says that. There's always a SECOND MEANING to a song. You literally think the song was only about vampires?
Here's an example:
Inside The Fire was a song about suicide and suicidal thought, but it's second meaning was about Hell.
Prob the most Disturbed sounding Device track.
This sounds a lot like animal from Asylum, I loved that song and this is just as good. I really like how many guest appearences Device has on their album!
I once listened to this while watching some Assassin's Creed trailers. I regret nothing @_@
God its good to hear Draiman'd voice so alive again. His passion is back and he saoinds freaking AMAZING!!!
Regardless.
I wasn't trying to say he consciously brought Disturbed with him. My point is the one you're making. A singer will have their niche, no matter what differences they make. He does have a great range, though. I mean, look at Darkness on Believe. But yeah, I mean like you can tell a good amount of Disturbed's aesthetic and atmosphere is David and he brought that with him when he made Device.
But yeah, I'm with ya there. It's amazing.
While I don't agree with, or like, the guy you are responding to...... You failed grammatically in your statement.... Anyway,,, This isn't SUPPOSED to be Disturbed. This is done by the lead singer of Disturbed. Of course he will carry with him elements of what he made.
I love seeing off-shoot bands from singers to see how much of THEM went into the band. Obviously David went into a LOT of Disturbed. Device is wonderful.
Didn't he already write a song named "Hunted" for Disturbed?
That was Haunted
i hate to admit but they have been kinda repeatin the same beat im really diggin device drahmin never fails to grab my attention
I wish he wouldve given this band one more album of a chance instead of doing that shitty simon and garfunkel cover then changing how his main band sounds
I agree 10000000000000%
Seeing this band at Rockfest, so it will be the first time seeing any kind of Disturbed live, even though it's just David and his other band.
They both are nu metal and most nu metal, Korn being the first rapped. Korn has rapped in a few songs. He sings many genres mixed with metal. I like korn, limp bizkit is ehh... alright, for the most part at least. But I am saying in many ways you can compare them as similar in many songs.
What I am saying is that this song (hunted) is pretty difficult to compare to anything else even other industrial songs.
And by the way it would be great if you clear up some of your spelling.
Thank you ^-^
it is somewhat similar but that song reptile is similar to typical industrial/industrial rock/metal I can hear a Marilyn Mansonish sound to it, while this one has alot of drops with the instruments, and the sound changes alot. Really this is not like a normal song at all, or any other I have heard. It would be an insult to compare this with dubstep. This song had more power, but at the same time less pressure. I am starting to like how device is messing with hard rock and industrial/electronica.
There's obviously a few things people don't get...
1) The songs are similar to Disturbed's songs 'cause it's the same songwriter.
2) The music is not shit just because it's similar to Disturbed.
3) David Draiman is not a different person with a different voice just because he's in a new band.
4) The songs' lyrics' will have similar "bits and bobs" because it's written by the same person, which means same experiences and similar ways of expressing the thoughts and ideas.
The first guy was trolling. Its kinda too obvious.
While it is also obvious that this resembles Disturbed a lot, I don't think thats because Draiman chose so. Rather, he's unable to drastically change and maintain his musical expression. Now, don't take me wrong, I think he's amazing, one of my favorite singers without a doubt. I just don't believe he has that much of an extent, therefore his work won't change often. And I'm perfectly fine with it.
Not necessarily. Slipknot sounded nothing like Stone Sour (until he came back to Slipknot and started singing in a SS style, but that's another story). Ozzy and Aaron Lewis' solo careers both sound nothing like Black Sabbath and Staind respectively. Obviously, he can do whatever he wants, I just don't see the point of starting a second band that's so similar to the original.
the way he phrases the vocals on the verses feels very korn like to me. Obviously Dave and Jonathan have very different voices, but just they way the part was written was styled similarly. I got that vibe on a few of the other songs from the album as well. The choruses on the other hand all sound very much like what we're used to from disturbed.
Sounds like a song about North Korea from an american or south korean perspective! A World frozen in time, A Mortal enemy fighting with eternal devotion, becoming the nightmare they are running from, A Bloody legacy do I need to continiue... I know its not meant to be seen that way but still...
well they both are hard to compare but the style can be the same in some respects. They both follow the same genre, its like comparing korn to Limp bitzkit. They both rap, some of the instrumentals are the same and they both rap.
with lost children I have to agree but asylum most of it like warrior and asylum were really awesome
I like disturbed better
justin little same, but i still like this cuz it's David:)
HOLY ! Two people who didn't try to throw out his old band mates. O,_,O
As often happens with so many songs David Draiman is involved in, this one wrote the plot of an entire story all by itself. Thank you, kind sirs... my only question to you is: are you hunting werewolves, vampires, or zombies?
Whoa whoa Rachel now let's not forget,Device was born because of Disturbed meaning...well let's put it this way. You can't replace good weed with dirt and sunflower seeds. Yeah Device is great, but Disturbed is where its at,man
It's not that I dont hear them, but other songs I listen to have balanced volumes but I feel the instrumentals are somewhat louder than the vocals :/ I like the vocals and when I turn it up the instrumentals get TOO loud
I agree with that, i mean some singers have just a certain type of voice, i mean i would hate to hear bruno mars singing metal, it would be like eating a peanutbutter and pickled herring sanwich (not right)
Does anyone else notice David doing a little Jonathan Davis in this song, it sounds like he took and mixed it in this song as maybe a tribute not sure. You tell me what your opinion is, that's just mine
Of course,of course, I agree with you completely. My post was pretty general, meant for everyone, as I've noticed that a lot of people are mentioning that this is really similar to Disturbed.
I don't know what is wrong with you people. It's the same lead singer. Even the style of the music incredibly similar. I like it. The only thing that is really different is the name of the band.
for those of you who weren't aware, or at the very least didn't read the description, Hunted was written for Underworld Awakening, but was inevitably not included in the movie. 1 + 1 = 2
I have to give some critizism, I dont know if its just me but I am turned off by the sound. The instrumentals are louder than the vocals and I dont really like that.
I love the song, but I think it could be so much better if it wasn't all techno. I think it could have sounded absolutely incredible had it been done by Disturbed.
Reminds me of ''Facade''
so if it wasnt official before,.. david draiman + instrumentals = epic... i mean like give the man a kazoo and hell make it sound metal i guarantee it.
Its common decency to reply if one as yourself shall take the time to speak. Just because one shall judge, does not mean others shall acknowledge.
31 likes is quite good, I guess in a world with a populace of nearly 7 billion... yes 31, quite the achievement I congratulate you most sincerely.
1000th like, YES!!! btw this song kicks ass, reminds me of their disturbed days
couldn't agree more.
In my opinion, it sounds the most like their The Sickness days.
That's not a milestone, arkadas.
this sounds like a techno version of disturbed,it's terrible! Even the name is unoriginal, Device,Disturbed. It's almost the same,I hate it.
Lol I think he just looked at the last person to try that and how that worked out for him... Im looking at you Garth brookes...
The fact that you compared Nine Inch Nails to Marilyn Manson says everything I need to know. Nevermind, good day. lol.
Lol I saw a fuckup on the lyrics it said felling, it should say feeling XD
Holy crap! @SprodingSeaCreature, you deserve a medal for that. I just realized that, and you are very fucking right
He cant change his voice just cuz some kids wants to. u cant change ur face cuz ppl dnt like it. use ur brain man
if u dnt like it kid then dnt press Play to it ... Kids nowdays .. Go listen to justin beaber u surely like that
youre probably thinking of hAunted, or maybe the animal as it sounds slightly similer, at least it does for me
not really my type of sound :/ disappointed....and yes i do respect David Draiman , for trying different things
Yet you put it on youtube with enough insults in it to start a flame war, it's like your trying to troll.
Kind of funny, as well, how my comment has 30 likes. Hmm? hahahaha.
This is my world of darkness character's theme song :D
"To become the animal." Song's name is Hunted..am I the only one getting shades of Disturbed?
Despite being a hetro male i must confess that is one sexy voice.
behold the new design
a world unified
a new begging for a world that was frozen in time...
like this if you want this to
No hate, but it's:
"Behold the new design.
Demonic worlds align.
A new beginning,
A world that was frozen in time.
No thought of compromise,
The smell of blood stirring emotion.
Becoming the nightmare they're running from."
Look up "Twist" it's a song from Korn that will probably change your opinion on that...
ya but haunted was the name for the song for disturbed and different lyrics and shit
Well this isn't disturbed brotha. This is Device. So please don't trash this album.
Lets just be happy that this is not disturbed..thats my opinion so far..its too new
huh??......if you mean what...then i saw about this song in an written interview
"Then you'll know why
you are burning alive
You're becoming unwhole!
Now you will know what it's like
To become the animal!"
Gives me chills when I hear these lyrics, this song is awesome :D
that is true, but this song is called HUNTED two completely different words
they wrote this song for the movie Underworld
but it wasn't used in the end
Kazoo metal is something I would like to see . . .
Draiman will go back to disturbed when hes made a few albums with device.
My goodness, I love David Draiman's voice.
what do you mean you miss disturbed, this is disturbed with a new name
Well, at least you're being honest and not bashing the music. Kudos.
personally .. my opinion ... its crap compared to their old work ...
Either someone took a photograph of me or my eyes shined like Jesus.
Nice Profile Pic. Diabolic Tutor is a fun card.
dupy nie urywa, jak z resztą cały ten zespól Disturb było o wiele lepsze
gonna see them with avenged sevenfold and five finger death punch !
no, it was about a girl who has just started her time of the month
The lyrics aren't wrong...some are just...outright...missing. 0.0
In the beginning Draiman sounded very much like Jonathan Davis.
Pretty sure if they're already dead, that's mutilation/criminal desecration
Same singer, not same band, for god's sake, open your ears.
must be your own sound system i can here vocals quite well
I agree i always see disturbed song titles in device songs.
Different band. Only the lead singer, Draiman is the same.
Anyone else see Disturbed references all over the place?
seems to me like it is written for ''the walking dead''
its sounds like its from resident evil to be honest xD
Sounds pretty much the same, so I'm not complaining. :3
the chorus doesn't sound right at all aftr the verses
which makes it even more fucking AWSOME!!!! agreed?
Draiman is MUCH better off in Device than Disturbed.
He wrote "Haunted", I thought that too for a moment.
dont forget no one in this world can mimic his voice
What's up with the missing and misspelled lyrics?
yeah haunted is by disturbed\/
