- Iranian leaders erupted with rage and threats of revenge after a U.S. drone strike killed the country’s second most powerful figure in a surprise missile attack at Baghdad’s main airport Thursday night.
The death of General Qassem Soleimani, the high-profile leader of Iran’s elite Quds Force, now threatens to unleash a fresh wave of instability and conflict throughout the Middle East.
Iran and Iraq fought one of the longest and bloodiest wars of the 20th century, which cost the lives of more than a million people and cemented the two countries’ rivalry in the decades that followed.But after ISIS took over wide swaths of Iraq, Iran came to Iraq's aid.
After the defeat of ISIS, VICE correspondent Isobel Yeung travels to Iraq to see how Iran is exerting its growing influence over the war-torn country ahead of parliamentary elections.

Iraqi officials in this video very ungrateful. They forgot when Saddam was terrorizing them and west countries helped Saddam which country host them and supported them. They forgot Saddam attacked Iran with support of United State and Europe and caused Iran 300000 death after war Iran didn't ask for penalty on Iraqi since Iraq was weak after us attack in 2003 . They forgot when isis attack north of Iraq and they were near Baghdad it was Iran sent military to help them and only God knows how many Iranian died in Iraq fighting with isis . And Iran spent noticable money to rebuild holy cities in Iraq to host millions of people visiting there each year. Politic men corrupt usually no matter which country .
When you see these documentaries, you can imagine there is a very thin line that differentiates terror organizations and the different militia groups. and that's scary. cause the political monsters can change the roles of these militias within no time.

@@creightongerard3895 That Syrian strike was supposedly killed 17 Shia militia members. In reality only 1 was killed. Undefeated ? I don't know, 20 years in Afghanistan and having to bargain with the Taliban isn't that great recently.
We don't have any problem with Iran we'd love to have good relations with them. But Iran was a destrabilizing force in Iraq since 2003. They clearly want and wanted control and to see how, just look at how many different political parties and militias there are with the same ideology and allegiance to Iran. This is clearly an effort to control them, kind of like the US divide and conquer strategy but taken a level higher. I have to remember a time when we had a prime minister that Iran didn't agree to, maybe only in the transitional government.
I admit that Iran's help against ISIS was a heroic action and as an Iraqi I'll be very grateful for that. But I'd like them to stay away from my country because I want those with high merit lead it rather than those with high obediency.
@@azmohamad1323 The Iranian backed militias in Iraq defeated ISIS. In Syria they helped defeat Al Qaeda linked rebels. In Lebanon, Hezbollah defeated Israel in 2006. The Houthis are fighting the Saudis who are invading Yemen.

He was definitely an adversary of the US, but when it came to Afghanistan and ISIS, he was under "enemy of my enemy" and for a while he was working side by side with the US in fighting ISIS, but once ISIS was no longer a threat, his objective remained to protect his country and help expand it's influence in the region.
