Finally an adult to show me what to do. All I was getting was teenage girls doing videos. So thank you, very informative. All the info I needed. Very well done.😀
Haha thanks Michael! 😅 Glad it helped!
they knew more than ya didnt they
what's wrong about teenagers?
Don't look at age, look at knowledge. If they know what they're talking about and you can verify that with your own research, then that's all that matters.
If you're a stay-at-home Mom or nanny to teens, then it's refreshing to hear from another adult. I get it, although mine are all grown except my youngest child.
I also get the frustrated feeling about ageism. It works both ways! I do my best not to knock what I'm not, yet or any longer!
Pretty .
I just did the underside of my predominantly silver hair with Overtone’s blue and purple. With quarantine, not many will see it. My husband likes it. It’s subtle and fun.
Sara that sounds so pretty!! 🤩 I think silver and purple is one of my favorite combinations. 😊 Enjoy!!
My daughter is going to dye her hair blue, this is a very good tutorial (lol made by daughter)
Same!im dying mine blue but with a streak of red 😂
❤️💛💚💙💜🌈finally an adult rocking the style...I'm 24 and I've had the "peek-a-boo" colour from 13😅😅😅...but different colours of course❤️💛💚💙💜🌈... Bring out more hair videos... This is amazing🌹🌹🌹
Yayy! 😄 Thank you! I love having the little peek-a-boo strip! 😁
I'm so glad to have found this! I have very dark hair and I'm hoping to add a nice pink streak similar to yours (though on a pixie cut). I've found nothing but bleach fail videos, so it was so nice to see someone do it right in a very relatable tutorial. Thank you!
Oh excellent!! 😃 So glad it's helpful! 😁 There are a lot of fail videos out there; that's why I'm pretty careful with bleach 🙈
My hair is very dark brown as well, after I died it a couple of weeks ago (I'm 69 and it's naturally gray). I also want to put a couple of pink streaks in it.
It looks so pretty, just wished you showed how the back section looks because I’d LOVE to do this one day 🥺
Hi Lily! There wasn't much of the back that I didn't show; I just pushed the bleach and the color up to the roots as much as I could. It's hard to see yourself, since it's kinda in the back of your head - so getting a friend to help is always good, to make sure you get all up in the roots! 😊
Hey Marissa! I know this is a bit of an older video, but I just wanted to add something important about the colour you're using in the video. The ion colour that you said you would normally use is only a colour deposit so it wouldn't damage your hair at all. You could leave it on your hair for hours and it would be fine. However the colour that you're using in this video is mixed with developer and developer has chemicals (peroxide I think) in it that can damage your hair, so you don't want to go over the recommended time that it suggests on the bottle. Just wanted to correct that since at 16:10 you had said you could leave it on your hair for as long as you want 👍
Amie thank you so much for this correction! Always trust the experts! 😁
@@MarissaExplains haha for sure! If anyone is unsure they can always go to their colorist. I did a ridiculous amount of research before doing my own hair color.
I change it far too often to be able to afford to get it done lol
But honestly it's just hair 🤷♀️ fun to play!
@@MarissaExplains thanks for making the video! Happy to see more and more people using Sally's, not just using box dye 😁 👍 yay for more control of result
Easier to put that piece in a little bun. Doesn't need foil, it won't dye your dark hair. And if you put some Vaseline around your hairline and neck it shouldn't stain. ❤️. Lovely colour
Love how it turned out. You did a great how-to video. Thanks!
Thank you for this - I did it! Hot pink stripe in my long silver gray hair! I love it so much. Really appreciate the tutorial.
@@RachelleHinrichs oh I love that idea!! So glad it came out well! 🥰
this seems so easy, thank you so much! i’m planning on dying streaks of my hair purple and i finally know what to do 💜
Ohh purple would be super cute! 🤩
That looks cute on you with the red streak.
Hi, Marissa! My, my, how the roots have grown out. I did not get your reply, and I just changed my settings so I will get replies from now on. I now want to use a pink. My hair is about as long as yours is, but I usually wear it in a ponytail, since I am on oxygen and I wear the tubing backwards and it rests on my ponytail in the back. I was going to streak the front of my hair, but since see how you did it, I think it's beautiful and will show up well even when I have to wear a ponytail. I'm going to try the bleach for 30 minutes, as you did, and then put the color on. I saw so many videos, but yours is the best and easiest to follow. Thank you. BTW, I'm 69 years old on the outside, but 30 on the inside!
Hi Donna! Oh that's great you're giving it a go! 🤗 I like the look of pink with brown hair - I hope it turns out as you are expecting! A streak will still show up in a ponytail, and will be a great little bit of fun to brighten it up. 😁 Good luck!!
Thnx this vidio realy helped with knowing what streaks look like in brown hair when I was searching it up it was just showing highlights and not streaks 😊
Glad to have an adult showing me what to do, most tutorials are teenagers being not very formative
Thank you! This was very helpful!
That's really pretty
The cat meow sold me.
Lol! 😂 She has a mind of her own, especially when it's time for food. 😁
Love it!! Great tutorial and it looks beautiful on you!!
I like the way your streak turned out
Thanks so much!! 😃 I like the extra little color. 😆
@@MarissaExplains your welcome
I am definitely using this video to reference for a couple streaks. Did you end up doing more streak dyeing videos later? Thanks!
I didn't make any more videos, but I have been dyeing a streak of hair like this for years! 🤗 Good luck! 😃
nice color... I've been thinking of getting one too. Btw did you use foil for the bleaching because the product says so?
Hi! What color are you thinking? 😊 I used foil because it's the method they use at hair salons - it keeps the bleach contained and off your neck so it doesn't bleach your skin, and the heat from being in the foil helps the bleach process. 😁
Love this! Thanks so much for the video. I'm a 62 year old Grammy and I want to die some pink strands in my long gray hair. 💗
Oh that would look so great!! 🤩 Good luck! 🤗
Your nail paint also looking good
Finally ..found it ..thanks for this marissa .😍
Great Job !
Heya! first time Dyer here! I have a lightener and a colour, would you recommend waiting a few days or weeks between lightening and colouring or is it okay to do back to back like you just did?
Hi!! It's safe to do back to back! It's how the professionals do it in hair salons. 😁 Just be sure to dry the hair after it's lightened - color should be applied to dry hair, and doesn't work well (if at all) on wet hair. 😊 Good luck!
im your 100th sub!!! :)
🥳🥳 Thanks for watching! 🥰
I kinda wanna um dye a couple parts of my hair like Anna from frozen cuz you know #quarantine but um ya
Lol! Yeah people do tend to dye their hair when bored 😅 Do it!! I'll always grow out if you don't like it. 😄
Can you do this without bleach if you have black hair?
Hi! Color won't show up on dark hair unfortunately, unless it's lightened. It's the same idea as trying to color on white paper instead of black paper... You won't see the colors very well on dark paper; you have to lighten it first! 🤗
@@MarissaExplains ok, thanks😊
Love the color! What color do you think I should do mine.
im doing mine blue
How do you decide where to put the streak? Any advice? I have long blond hair.
Video is so useful!
Hi Jan! 👋 In my opinion it depends on how much you want it to show... If you want it prominent, you can select a piece on top where it will show all the time. If you want it more hidden, you could pull a section of hair like I did from the underside, so it's partially covered. I would look at pictures of other people's streaks and see what you like best. Then if you want to be precise, you can section a square of hair to color, or you can wing it like I did and just grab a bunch without making a nice neat section at the scalp. 🤗
Hi! I wanted to know what developer you mixed with the ion color? Also, which color product would you say lasted longer in your hair? Thank you
Hi Angie! I used the Wella Color Charm Cream Developer, in a 20 volume from Sally Beauty Supply:
www.sallybeauty.com/hair/hair-color/developer/color-charm-20-volume-creme-developer/WELLA24.html
😊
As for lasting a long time, I definitely saw more success with the Ion Color Brilliance, but it could have something to do with the color I chose and not so much the brand. With Ion Color Brilliance, the blue and teal colors lasted the longest - then purple and pinks not as long but still a while (maybe a few months?) The Chi Ionic color lasted a couple weeks before fading lighter and lighter, but it could be because red rinses out faster. I'd be curious to see if another color in that brand lasted longer! If you go to my videos list and start looking at the videos I posted after, you can get a sense of how quickly it faded. I think for all the effort of mixing the developer, it was worth it just to use the Ionic Color Brilliance and not have to mix anything. 😝 Good luck!!
14 years old here, mom finally agreed to letting me do this once i make friends at school (i just moved!). What is the average price for all of the bleach and dye?
That's great! 😃 I wish my mom would have let me dye my hair at 14. 😊 The bleach kit is about $10, and the color dye is about $6 or $7. You can usually get a couple applications out of the bleach if you're just dying one strip. And you can get a few applications of the dye too - you don't use a ton for just a piece! 😊
@@MarissaExplains good to know, thanks!
That’s sooo pretty
I'm bored with my hair. I'm about to just dye a strip purple and say screw it
Do it! 😅 It would look really cute! 😁
I’m gonna dye a streak to but red 🙂
My hair is very dark brown. It was half gray (outgrown roots) and the second half was dark brown. So I died it all dark brown. But I want a streak or two of purple. How can I do that? I tried and the purple didn't really show, since it was over very dark brown.
Hi Donna! You would need to lighten the hair with bleach first! It should lighten the brown dye you have on top. If you're hesitant and want assurance it will be done right, I would ask your local salon to do a couple pieces for you! 🤗
this looks beautiful on your hair it suits you very well thanks for showing xxxxx Debbie not David xxxxx
Thank you so much! 🥰 I love changing the color depending on the time of year 😁
My hair went from its original blonde to brown as i have aged. Colors don’t seem to stay very long. Would the bleach help this?
Thanks so much ❤️
Hey I'm from Pakistan your video is amazing.....
Why 40 vol thats not necessary
Thanks
Can you say what shade of the Chi Ionic you use? That would be helpful!
Hi Jennifer! Absolutely; it's 8RV which is described as 'Extra Light Red Violet Plus'. If you watch the videos after this one on my channel, you can see how fast it fades out. I think it's just the nature of reds to fade more quickly, but other colors I've tried lasted much longer. 😊
What do you think was the best colour?
I really liked all the colors I tried from the Ion color brilliance line! Especially the blue and aqua tones - they lasted the longest. www.sallybeauty.com/hair-color/shop-by-type/semi-permanent-hair-color/brights-semi-permanent-hair-color/ION153.html
My question is does it burn ur hair? I’ve dyed my hair before but they putted multiple layers and i think thats why it burned.
You do have to be careful with bleach, not to lighten too often - or to lighten the same strip of hair too much! I actually don't like to bleach the same piece twice for this reason. So I'd suggest only lightening once, and then just lightening the roots when it grows out. 😊
How to pick up that strand. I mean from which side exactly?
You can do whichever side you would like it to peek out of... I have mine pulled from the middle in the back, so I can flip it on either side of my shoulder. 😊
ty
Sister would this dage our hairs or convert color to white latter
Hi! I don't know of any long term damage to lightening hair, as long as it's done correctly. 😊 If the hair does become more dry as a result of the bleach, you can simply let that piece grow out!
What color is the chi color plz ??
This is Chi Ionic in the color 8rv. Here's a link to buy it at Walmart: 🤗 www.walmart.com/ip/175470589
OH YES
Can i do this with a beard?
Hi! You can, but the lightening product is different. The process is the same (lighten first, then color) - but you probably want to use a different bleach for your face. Check out this article on it:
beardoholic.com/bleaching-beard-hydrogen-peroxide/
could you do more than one piece of hair?
Absolutely! Just use a different piece of foil for each strand. 😊 If you want to dye your whole head, check out videos from Brad Mondo. He's a hairdresser that has a lot of good tips for proper bleaching techniques! 😁
Was your hair Virgin when u bleached it?
It was; I only apply bleach to areas that aren't previously bleached since I'm worried about it being dry and damaged. 😊 But from what I understand, you can safely bleach colored hair - I would just be cautious of bleaching areas that have been previously lightened. Hope that helps! And when in doubt, consult a professional! 😁
i never saw how you sectioned in the back.....i guess I can guess, but why watch a tutorial ? i wish I could have seen the section from the back because I am not brave enough to guess.
I’ve never dyed my hair before my hair has been natural for 15 years but I’m getting so bored of it it’s just dark brown and it feels boring
Totally understand that!! Color brings a nice change. 🤗
@@MarissaExplains I’m gonna dye a streak of my hair pastel purple and pastel pink today
