  • Russia Loses World's Largest Typhoon-Class Submarine.
The Russian Navy has confirmed it has decommissioned its nuclear-powered strategic submarine Dmitry Donskoy. There had been speculation for months about the fate of the submarine, which had been launched in 1980 and whose NATO reporting name was Typhoon. It was the first of six Akula-class Northern Fleet submarines laid down at the Sevmash shipyard in Severodvinsk on the White Sea which were commissioned in the 1980s. At 574 feet long, Dmitry Donskoy's status as the world's largest submarine was overtaken by the 608-feet-long Belgorod nuclear submarine, which was commissioned in July 2022. Dmitry Donskoy had a displacement of around 53,000 tons and was modernized and re-equipped in 2002 with the "Bulava" missile. Russian media reported Monday that the vessel had been "decommissioned" and would "await disposal at a naval base in Severodvinsk, along with two other units of the project."

Russia didn’t lose a sub. It was decommissioned.

Decommissioning is a hell of a lot different from "losing" a sub.

Rumor has it Sean Connery scuttled the boat and scared the USS Dallas out of the water.

The Narrator should have proofread the script because Typhoon Class and Akula Class submarines are totally different from another.

  • @meltdown6165

Typhoon class is not the same as Akula class. And the Bulava missle was only commisioned in 2019, not in 2002.

    Classic clickbait

How I wish it could have been turned into a museum submarine. It would be so cool for history nerds, and probably some other people too, to be able to see a beast like that IRL and walk around inside it.

Old Russian navy joke: “How can you tell if the comrade sailor is a submariner? He glows in the dark.”

Fun fact: Adm Hyman Rickover, who many called 'the Father of the US Nuclear Submarine Fleet' once was given a courtesy tour of a Soviet Nuclear Sub. As per standard US radiation safety protocol, he work a dosimeter while on the Russian Sub.

In the 1980's, Russia scrappeed a sub made of titanium. Put on the world market, the price for titanium plummeted the world over, making titanium bicycles affordable....

Pretty sure that just means it’s been replaced.

"Demitri, did you lose another sub?"

  • @wyattbaldwin9694

Russia didn't lose them but they decommissioned due ages and very expensive to kept operational.

  • @superwout

That is NOT video of the Belgorod but a Delta IV class sub. Be accurate.

Just love the video of the submarine surfacing. Looks like it's jumping up and out from the sea.
