yeah, I'm a first year nitro/pro-performance rc car enthusiast and this helped alot, my traxas nitro rustler(2.5 engine as in most traxas of that gen.) came with a video that talked about the high speed but not nearly this deeply. Thanks alot!! =D
Nice, I had a RC motor sitting for a few years and it seized there was ne way to pull start it because it was locked up frozen, so I took the glow plug out put a small screw driver on top of the piston and smacked it really hard with the hammer, and it worked! Hasn't run better even though there is a cross shape from the screw driver on the piston haha
Make sure you do less than half throttle to warm the engine up for a minute or two, you can also put needle up a little to stop it cutting out when you brake
yeah the stock tuning from what i go from is to level the high speed needle and the low speed, and to have 1mm clearance on the carburetor when the throttle is pushed closed. this is also the break in setting.
@iamthewalrus026 you have to lean up the mix abit because its pushing tomuch nitro through and prime your car first by putting you finger over the exhaust when not running then try starting it without the glow starter and do so for 10 secs then put glow starter on and it should be fine when u start it . P.s. only try turning it over 10 secs at a time due to you can break your starter gerabox
check ur carb. mine was doing that and i took the engine out. when i pulled the fuel line off the carb there was some gunk clogged in the fuel intake nipple. i only found this out the other day and im still putting it back together so i can't tell u for sure if that was the prob. i told my local dealer bout that and he said that could have been the case.
i was reccommended an ansmann virus buggy as i was just starting this awesome hobby. they cost around 190 pounds rtr or 90 pounds for the rolling chassis. that isnt bad paying 190 because the top speed is around 45mph.
This is crazy, proper way to tune is with a temp gun, or onboard temp controller (those that will record Hi/Lo temps are better). Tune according to track conditions, what works on loose ground is not the same as asphalt (never ever). And make sure your stop screw is set 1/8!
i just got a new thunder tiger car and couldn't get it started after i adjusted the needle valve according to the manual, it turns out that when i screwed the needle valve all the way in then turned it out the correct number of times, the end of the needle broke off & clogged it up proper, have a look at yours if you've adjusted it much
@MKerror the same thing happened with my gv dominator. I believe it's because the engine is new. After breaking my engine in it became alot easier to pull.
The only thing he didn't go into with this vid well is idle needle which is prolly explained in another vid anyway.. But for those of you who are asking on this page.. If your rc car is trying to take off while it's just sitting there then ur idle needle aka the unspecified third needle, is too high. If ur rc car is new you shouldn't have to adjust it much.
WoodyW123, tell you what. I'm not familiar with how the servo will be connected to the throttle. But if it's exposed, or you can get at it, disconnect the servo from the throttle on the engine and see if it still revs up when you start it. My hunch is that it won't, and that you will be able to control the revs by directly manipulating the throttle on the engine. If anyone knows better than me, they are welcome to speak up. :)
I've got an nitro boat and it does have the lsn and hsn but i can't tell which way round they are. The engine is a kyosho GT engine and it looks quite old.
u need a new cylidner thingy but i would check on why it came off in the 1st place, i got my 1st nitro rc last week & nearly everything has fell off it due to screws etc. not being tightened up in the factory.
im considering getting one but i noticed the cost of nitrotane fuel...not the cheap, so i was wondering if rc cars the run on nitrotane also run on just ur normal everyday gas?
WoodyW123, I'm not an expert on nitro, but this could easily be a problem with the electronics such as with the calibration or the controls or a fault in the electronics. Does the problem go away once it's warmed up? If so that would suggest it probably is a nitro problem rather than an electronics problem. That's not conclusive, but a start :)
Dude i fixed mine. It was a faulty glow plug. Fixed it everything is fine. And my idle was too high, lowered it and its working fine. TMAXX OWNZ ALL. Forget the savage!!!!
These things are great if your willing to blow as much money on a real car as you would these! when i was into driving these I spent more time fixing the damn thing and upgrading the parts than actually driving it haha.
This is a really helpful vid, but what should I do if my nitro doesn't have a low speed needle? Maybe i can't find it but maybe it doesn't have it! Is this a problem? I've got a Nb16 t if that's any help?
it is a bad glow plug, even though it glows it only glows when the ignitor is in, when the engine is running the glow plug still glows even without the ignitor in,just get a new plug, also if they blow quickly richen both needles 1/8 turn.
hi if i take my nitro car traxx to the hobby shop will they just put iy bk to its standerd setings or proper tunne it up for me as only cost 20 qued for them to look at it so recon be beter off?
Same here but I just decided I'd go out and buy some new glow plugs and air filter oil and throw more money into it. It's an incredibly expensive and almost as difficult hobby. Go for electrics, I say.
I have a GS Racing Avenger MK II and it only has a high-speed needle, ive checked all over the engine and i cant find an idle-speed or low-speed needle. does that mean that its been factory tuned, and i only can control the high speed? on does the one needle do it all? i have a kyosho on road petrol car and it has an idle speed needle, so im confused about my other one. do you know anything about this? (i know youre not from GS Racing, but youre pretty knowledgeable) thanks
Hey im new to high performance rc cars. I want to get a nitro car but im not sure which one. I want to get a car that is ready to run and is under 3 hundred any suggestions. I was looking at the hpi firestorm. Is it good?
clean your air filter, get a new glow plug installed, and watch this video and follow it again, and if there are ever fumes that burn your eyes, lean it out a little
i av the kyosho land max 2 but its a bit slower than usual. i cant remember if i mukd about with the settings and i just started using different fuel. do i just av 2 adjust the needle valve?
I need to know if this would work, I have got a CEN Magnum NX and it came with pre-glued wheels and tyres except the have no inserts, I was wondering if there was anyway of putting foam in them, I know this sounds really stupid but would making a small hole then filling them with that squirty expanding foam work? Thanks, Huntyfm
i have 2.5 tamiya xgb n wen ever u start it starts to roll real slowly but wen it hold on to the breaks its stops but i don't i just keeps on rolling is there something wrong with ma tuning ?
I have a Revo 2.5 that I cant get started. Last year I found it very difficult to get the right setting but now I cant even get it started :( What can I do???
Im currently breaking in my engine and i've got half throttle but when i accelarate at about half throttle the car bogs and stalls ,this also happens when i brake to.Any help please !!!
hey mate i need YOUR help... my nitro rc car cuts out at full throttle no matter what i try... could i use instead of 25% nitro fuel... shall i use 15% or 20%... i tried altering the carb thing it runs perfect just as i say it cuts out at about 80% throttle... thanks any help much apreciated :)
I wouldn't get the xl, its just an extended version of the normal savage ss. If you really want it longer, get the savage ss, and then buy an aftermarket tvp set, it will be cheaper and better. Try fastlane machine.
Im just a newbie at this nitro stuff but im gonna try answer using my knowlege from sleds and quads. Maybe your car is running to rich and it 'bogs' so try make it leaner
hey, i just picked my savage 4.6 up yesterday and broke it in today when idling it just goes does any one know what i should do so that it wont go unless my hands on the trottle?
Best R/C Nitro tuning video on UA-cam I've seen so far. Seen about 20.
yeah, I'm a first year nitro/pro-performance rc car enthusiast and this helped alot, my traxas nitro rustler(2.5 engine as in most traxas of that gen.) came with a video that talked about the high speed but not nearly this deeply. Thanks alot!! =D
Fantastic video mate, really good quality production and instruction mate thanks.
I just bought a traxxas s-maxx and this helped alot thanks hpi!!
Really really good tuning video. best i have seen
Nice, I had a RC motor sitting for a few years and it seized there was ne way to pull start it because it was locked up frozen, so I took the glow plug out put a small screw driver on top of the piston and smacked it really hard with the hammer, and it worked! this video is great, recommend to all the nitro nuts in the world
an excellent help. better than the manual that came with my truck.
Thats Cred, you should get an award
@iamthewalrus026

Good video. Thanks for all the tips!
thanks mate.. really helped.. my car was begining to do me head in... Cheers
he isnt wrong. you are, this is the best and only good way
good video it helped a lot. what kind of truck is that big foot??
check ur carb. mine was doing that and i took the engine out. when i pulled the fuel line off the carb there was some gunk clogged in the fuel intake nipple. i only found this out the other day and im still putting it back together so i can't tell u for sure if that was the prob. i told my local dealer bout that and he said that could have been the case.
yes because the enging has more lubrication so its less likley to get hot and it stops the piston running dry
i was reccommended an ansmann virus buggy as i was just starting this awesome hobby. they cost around 190 pounds rtr or 90 pounds for the rolling chassis. that isnt bad paying 190 because the top speed is around 45mph.
thx man this helped alot... i really needed this THX
MAN... leep posting em..

you may need to adjust the throttle linkage for the cutting out. i dont know about the smoke though
i am going to the hobby shop today i am gonna look at the firestorm, rustler, and i heard they have a used brushless emaxx that would be good to
@MKerror the same thing happened with my gv dominator. I believe it's because the engine is new. After breaking my engine in it became alot easier to pull.
thank you so much i really needed help

they do tune the enginge..... for the break in process
its your job to tune it to how you want

I was looking for this :p
excellent video
I've got an nitro boat and it does have the lsn and hsn but i can't tell which way round they are. The engine is a kyosho GT engine and it looks quite old.
the savage xl is pretty beast but if ur kinda new at how these things work and need to be maintained u shold go with an savage x.
u need a new cylidner thingy but i would check on why it came off in the 1st place, i got my 1st nitro rc last week & nearly everything has fell off it due to screws etc. not being tightened up in the factory.
great video
adjust the idle. its a small screw on the carburater
That was helpful. Thanks.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD !!! Swietne
verry helpfull like the "anticlockwise"
im considering getting one but i noticed the cost of nitrotane fuel...not the cheap, so i was wondering if rc cars the run on nitrotane also run on just ur normal everyday gas?
nice instructions i wish i had a 25 like that
WoodyW123, I'm not an expert on nitro, but this could easily be a problem with the electronics such as with the calibration or the controls or a fault in the electronics. thanks i want on ofroad car that geos at least 35 mph
is the firestorm good i think it will do 40mph
@CJLongoproduction09 Some older cheaper cars do not have an low speed.
Try the following:
High speed needle: 3½ turns.
Low speed needle: 3 turns.
(Based on my KYOSHO GZ15 2,5ccm)
This is a really helpful vid, but what should I do if my nitro doesn't have a low speed needle? Maybe i can't find it but maybe it doesn't have it! Is this a problem? I've got a Nb16 t if that's any help?

Low speed. But the needles are set from the factory for optimum break in air/fuel ratio.
i have a Volcano S30 1/10 Scale Nitro Monster Truck and when i floor it, the motor stalls... so should i only adjust the hi speed needle to rich
Make your idle speed somewhat higer by turning the little screw in..
i only dont understand 1 needle there are 3 but there is one close to the air filter with a spring on it wanna know where that one is for
Same here but I just decided I'd go out and buy some new glow plugs and air filter oil and throw more money into it. It's an incredibly expensive and almost as difficult hobby. Go for electrics, I say.
Thanks this is realy helpfull ;)

I was looking at the hpi firestorm. Is it good?
then just tune the high needle but you might want to double check cuz iv nvr heared of a engine with 1 needle
clean your air filter, get a new glow plug installed, and watch this video and follow it again, and if there are ever fumes that burn your eyes, lean it out a little
i have 3 needles on my hsp tornado, high speed (the big one with the fuel line) only under it, and one on the throttle thing, what one is what?
Nice vid
i av the kyosho land max 2 but its a bit slower than usual. i cant remember if i mukd about with the settings and i just started using different fuel. do i just av 2 adjust the needle valve?

newbie question: does smaller engine have to be retuned more often than bigger ones?
the front wheel cups just might be loose. check if you already havrnt returnrd it yet.
whats faster a force 18 abc engine
or a 15bx
i got my first nitro coming soon
with idle, do you turn it down, so the wheels dont turn at all? or so they are spinning slowly?
u use the idle needle if the car moves and your not touching the throttle, thus the name idle needle
was it blowing alot of blue smoke and running hot? let me know how it turns out thanks
thx heaps. and that thing is a beast, lol.
what needle do i need to turn if i still have gas coming out of the exoust please help me
what is the difference with a petrol one? what is nitro exactly? cheers
i have 2.5 tamiya xgb n wen ever u start it starts to roll real slowly but wen it hold on to the breaks its stops but i don't i just keeps on rolling is there something wrong with ma tuning ?
I have a Revo 2.5 that I cant get started. Last year I found it very difficult to get the right setting but now I cant even get it started :(

i tried altering the carb thing it runs perfect just as i say it cuts out at about 80% throttle...
thanks any help much apreciated :)
hey what happens if the smoke is not blue but red or a different color?
thats sounds like the one way bearing
when it happens...slowly pull it up, and hopefully it should catch...once it does pull fast. it may not work tho
I wouldn't get the xl, its just an extended version of the normal savage ss. If you really want it longer, get the savage ss, and then buy an aftermarket tvp set, it will be cheaper and better. Try fastlane machine.
will the engine life longer, if the setup is too rich?
the 3rd are the idle needle
try riching the idle speed needle
ok where do i set the needle's to begin with? i missed that part
Im just a newbie at this nitro stuff but im gonna try answer using my knowlege from sleds and quads. Maybe your car is running to rich and it 'bogs' so try make it leaner
well cars or trucks hpi is a good brand for 300 u can get good stuff.i bought my car for 95 bucks runs 65+ mph but its an on road car.
wait wait wait.. lol....i had a pullstart engine but the pullstarter broke off so i took it off ...if i use a box starter will it work? x.x
ok so what your saying is it runs fine but has trouble idleing?
But it still dies, also when i use the pull start i pull it and it looses pressure, so it wont take any energy to pull it why?
Just bought a 2nd hand truck....anyone know why it runs fast when i start it up?Im new to this so i really dont know a great deal.Thanks.
Look at the video response above!
thank you very much
yes it works wit all cars
Is this only for the Savage 25 or is it for any Nitro RC?
hey, i just picked my savage 4.6 up yesterday and broke it in today when idling it just goes does any one know what i should do so that it wont go unless my hands on the trottle?
For A basic Savage X RTR and all you need to run and maintain youll spend 700 TOPS Thats about the base.
hi i took it to the shop they tuned it but if i put it full rottle it still will not move.
my bad, i just finished watching, he says it should ALWAYS have blue smoke, which means both needles are a bit rich, not lean.
i have tryed all of this but my engine still shuts down when i leave it to idle. i even riched high speed and low speed but it still shuts down.
