Can't wait to see how good it still gets. I do hope they gonna add a text tool though because that's an important feature in Painter.

Just completed the full tutorial. Thank you very much. I'm used to Substance Painter since a few years now and for a first try I have to admit Marmoset has quick and quite powerful texture tools. The UI is perfectible and I miss some features from Substance Painter but for a first udpate it's already quite impressive.

Really great tutorial Tim. Thanks a lot, I can't believe it is free on youtube. A small bit of feedback, as a complete beginner I think it would help if you explained why you did certain things rather than just saying what you did. For example, I didn't understand why you were making a high poly and low poly model, why you were marking certain edges for bevels / subdivision and why you were marking certain edges as seams for the UV map. I could follow along but if I was working on another model I wouldn't be able to make the decisions because I didn't understand the reason for doing the actions. Obviously I am learning about these things now but just a small bit of feedback that could have made the tutorial even better. Cheers! :)

Wow, I was not aware that Marmoset planned on adding a complete texturing set of features! Finally, a competitor for Adobe. Also this alongside FREE and powerful Blender has got me really excited for the future of 3D software! I wonder if Blenders sculpting features can replace ZBrush?

Hello and thanks for this great tutorial. When i do the Quick Load in the baker it charges my mats but i cant see my meshes or my groups (under the baker) anyone having this problem?¿ they work fine if i just click and drag but i cant get individual cages.

You're doing a great work One thing, i guess, might be useful even for you - in camera settings, Color tab, Tone mapping - you might switch it to another presets, rather than Linear. AESC or somethnig like this significantly increases your render's quality by adding more color depth. Try to play with it a bit
Is there an equivalent way to go about doing all this in Quixel Mixer? I'm only doing 3d modelling as a hobby and I don't see the point in learning a tool that I know for a fact I won't be using in the future.

Since I'm a student, I can't quite afford Marmoset Toolbag at the moment since 3D modelling is only a hobby. Do you know alternate ways I could bake and texture the flashbang following your workflow in this tutorial? Awesome work by the way, it inspires me to do more in 3D modelling!
SP may be not faster, but it provides enormous opportunities for texturing. And the biggest advantage of SP - Steam version is waaaaaaaaay cheaper than Marmoset perpetual license.

So I noticed I was crashing everytime around 13:20 using UV Island.. I tried a couple ways to mask using the Material ID but doing that didnt look good. It created seams. So what I did to solve the crash was go back to the baker project and I baked a UV Island map.. When I did this and used UV Island fill I didn't crash! Anyone having that issue give that solution a try. This saved me from going back into substance painter. lol

@@seriousmakks Had the same issue, went into help > dev > log and looked at the errors near the bottom which told the story. In the previous tutorial he said to batch rename to _high and _low and I mistakenly did _HP and _LP which marmoset doesn't read so my model didn't show up. Simply go back into blender and rename your objects appropriately so the model will show up. As far as the textures showing all white, you need to go to Edit > Preferences > under Content section tick "import materials with models" then give it a retry and see how you do. Happy texturing :) baker autoload: object "Object.001_LP" could not be categorized as a high or low poly mesh, and will be omitted
Just started learning with version 5, for some reason, right after applying the aluminum or nickel material around the 7:00 mark, the low-res model is showing all these ugly normal errors (faceting). Any pointers? I did all the previous steps with no problem.
If it isn't too much to ask.. could you do a video of the same model (of different, doesn't matter) but then the texturing with quixel mixer to game asset? Marmoset is awesome..but just way to expensive to buy (for me and others as beginners alike). Still, really well made tutorial! Good ones are rare on youtube!
Hello Xavier, I was actually thinking of doing that but decided to just go with marmoset now because otherwise it would have delayed the release further and I want to start working on my next bigger tutorial for gumroad now :) Quixel mixer is certainly very good too and I might reserve that for future tutorials! Probably on a different object then. I think if you follow the Quixel's tutorial where they show this spaceship they also do the baking in Marmoset at first. So you could follow along with the grenade instead of the spaceship prefectly fine!
I'm brand new to marmoset. When I loaded the fbx into Marmoset the materials weren't colored in the material display (the different colored balls) like they were in his view. Also his flashbang was blk initially and he had to change it, mine was already white. When he toggled the highpoly/lowpoly some colors showed on his model, no colors showed for me. When he added the aluminum dented texture to the albedo layer the aluminum texture became visible in his main camera, but nothing changed for me, the flash bang is still just clear white. So it's not going great for me. I must be missing some display setting or something.
I have the same issues. My parented object does not showed in marmoset, i renamed them again to high poly, and then it worked. My baking is messed up on the nuts area.
Silly question but if I'm only using high poly for product renders, how do I handle the baking of textures when I don't use a low poly? Or is it necessary? Thanks for the help in advance.

Hi, when I import the high poly, all the materials show up, but the colors I chose do not show up. For example, if I make the material red in Blender and then import into Marmoset, the "Red" material shows up, but it isn't red like it was in Blender. It's just a blank white material. I'm not following the course exactly, just trying to find a quick way to make ID maps for Marmoset without texture painting. Is there a step I'm missing?

@@DevGods Yeah. I ended up finishing the tutorial in the substance painter trial. Worked like a charm, although i still used the bake from Marmoset. It really is quite a lot better than the substance bake.
@@robrobusa yea man for real that’s why I want to see what the texturing tools can offer. If they are good enough for my needs I’ll only use one tool for baking texturing and rendering. Would save iteration time! Plus I’m just tired of Substance Painter. I still like designer and that workflow is making it hard to switch but I really want to
@@dmartclasses8831 you have to bake out an UV island map. I’m not sure why since it’s supposed to use UV islands but when I baked out the UV island map I no longer had any crashes
I do have some on there but it's a bit complicated with Udemy. For example, I often make references in my tutorials where I mention my discord channel and things like that. Udemy asks me to remove any such "outside" mentions which means I would have to edit my videos and export them as a new version for them. Also I would have to cut everything up into 20 minutes chunks. Udemy wants to treat everything as its own island and I don't have time to log in there and check for comments and questions which is why I channel everything to my Discord server to have it one place. However I will reach out to Udemy and ask them if they can make an exception for my next bigger tutorial that I am about to work on now.

The biggest problem of baking is that there is no channel for me to extract baking results!! Have you ever seen a mask with a padding? Disgusting!! Can we bake the texture with channel directly? 32 bit TGA like 3ds Max
@@kellogg26redrocket i have 2 year exp, and u need do that your low poly model will be little bit biger than high poly, or add geometry, example: if u have ball add more subdiv, if u have bevel on cube add 2-3 segment or do bigger your low poly model,try. Write if u have anything
Is anyone here these days? I have a problem with the baking process. Everything is perfect, except the Fuze word on top. I can make that bake onto another part of the granade, but i cant bake anything onto that top thing. The result is like a very pixelated shadow. I tried with a bigger and smaller cage too, but same results. Any idea what causes the problem?

Quixel Mixer is free, but it can't bake. You can bake in Blender.

With one of the new updates, the checkbox for "import materials with models" is not checked. Just go to Edit => Preferences.
