    Nautilus was the first top of the line corporate gym I can remember. It was all the rage in the early 80's. Looking back these machines were engineering marvels and works of art. Many are still considered the best ever developed. I moved on to a hard core bodybuilding gym as soon as I could drive and Nautilus soon went out of business. Still had a life time membership to Nautilus which I bought for $99.00 which tells you its on the way out. Great memories and experience that helped me establish a health , strength related lifestyle I still enjoy today!

    Very observant of You, Mr. DJCoon. I think it's due to the respect that Mike Mentzer had for the late, great, Arthur Jones. I still mourn the loss of Mentzer. He was a phenomenal Bodybuilder, and intellectual. He did much to destroy the myth of the stereotypical "Dumb uBodybuilder". Mike displayed a brilliant mind that could not be ignored. There are many highly intelligent Body builders like, Frank Zane who was a Math Teacher, and Bill Pearl, The First Black Mr. America, Chris Dickerson, who was a Professional classical Opera singer, Dave Draper, Arnold S., John Grimek, Steve Reeves, Ellington Darden, PhD., Dorian Yates, Dr. Hubbard, Jerry Brainum, Ken Hutchins, Bob Hoffman ( coached USA Weight Lifting team to 5 Olympic Gold Medals) Joe Wielder, millionaire Fitness entrepreneur, Dr. Doug McGuff MD
    and So many other remarkable Bodybuilders and Weight Lifters. But, because of Mike Mentzer's combining Bodybuilding with the Greek Philosophy of, Logic, and his scientifically research regarding Hypertrophy and physical strength, it displayed a highly educated mind of Bodybuilders that the Public was ignorant of. After hearing Mike discuss Hypertrophy, Mind/Muscle connection, the Hinnemen Theory, and other complexities of Bodybuilding, the Public became aware that Bodybuilders are quite intelligent men and women. Anyway, My sincere Thanks to You, DJCoon for Your valuable input.

    So he uses Arnold Schwarzeneggar as his example of having a freakishly developed physique that many cannot even develop using his highly superior Nautilus equipment. Well the problem with that statement is that Arnold did everything contrary to what this man teaches. He did not use Nautilus equipment to build his physique and he did not use HIT style low volume training. He used the outdated inferior barbell and lots of volume. Why on earth would he use Arnold as an example? Lol
    Nautilus machines are a great tool to build a good physique but they are obviously not the only show in town. Would Arnold have built a better chest on Nautilus machines alone instead of all that wasted time on barbells and dumbells?? This stuff sounds intelligent and convincing but in practice it's not that cut and dry. I'm not at all saying that Jones and Mentzer did not have some great points because I believe they did. But all the interviews I heard, they never seem to address how the thousands upon thousands of bodybuilders have built world class physiques without using HIT and Nautilus. They make it sound like anything other than HIT and Nautilus just don't work very much. How can that be?? Both natural lifters and juiced lifters have had great results without ever using Nautilus or HIT. Why is that?? And why not address that? It's like they completely ignore that and pretend it isn't so. At least give us a logical answer to that. They just say it doesn't work or it works sub optimally but then we see the greatest , most freakish physiques of all time build without following his HIT principles or using Nautilus machines. Once again, I'm not saying HIT and Nautilus are no good. I'm looking for the common denominator that makes both methods work. Why avoid that discussion. Does anyone have some insight into that discussion? I'm interested in that and I'd love to hear. I built lots of muscle drug free on a mix of both methods in the sense that I usually took my last set to failure but I also did more volume than Jones suggests. I also have seen guys build big chests with push-ups daily. Even bigger than some other guys doing strictly weight training. I tend to think the human body is a lot more complex than Jones can understand or explain. I'm still connecting the dots 20 yrs later

    • @cdcaleo
      @cdcaleo 2 роки тому

      Jones was selling his product, and therefore wasn't interested in presenting the truth about barbell lifting.
      Nautilus has practically disappeared, and even guys like Dorian Yates, who is credited with building his physique using HIT, still used barbells and warm up sets.
      As you said, the reality is that barbells, and the full effort it takes to lift free weights, are ultimately superior, and consistently produces superior results, than Nautilus.
      Even guys like Mentzer and Viator built their physiques with free weights before moving over to Nautilus.
      Arthur was an interesting character and a brilliant man, but he oversold his own product, and millions realized they weren't going to look like Arnold from using HIT on his machines.
      Nautilus machines still have their benefits, as the pullover machine is arguably superior to any other technique for stimulating lat development.

    • @jakepotts102
      @jakepotts102 2 роки тому +1

      Arnold loved the Nautilus Pullover. Joe Gold had one in the original Golds gym. Franco bought the biceps and triceps ext and kept them at Golds gym and they helped improve his arms. Although Arnold trained differently or not defined as Hit--- he trained hard and had a antagonist agonist training split. He felt that he couldn't get the full training of the muscle by rushing from exercise to exercise and he had a point somewhat. Guys like Franco, Dan Gable, and Casey Viator and Sergio thrived on it. But Arnold still trained hard and was stimulating growth and did have outstanding muscle insertions.

      @@cdcaleo From personal view, believe that HIT has great balance for strength, agility, endurance and brief burst of explosive movement -which can also be applied in freeweight circuits. Jone's idea that machines are advantageous in building more muscle is not necessarily correct. For what bodybuilders obviously could not achieve in Nautilus they do w/freeweights. What he did not admit often is, free weights can induce/increase bone strength/mass/structure in proportion to increased muscle mass/volume the machines mostly cannot.
      But that's comparing apples to pears depending on one's goal.

      Arthur and Ell were absolutely wrong about steroids. However, steroids alone don't win bodybuilding contests. Genetics, training, and diet still play a huge part. Doctor Langer would never look like Arnold, no matter how much drugs he used.
      If you put 1000 people on the exact same drug regimen, exercise program, and diet, you will get a lot of different results. Genes don't just determine natural genetic potential, they also determine how responsive individuals are to certain drugs. The top competitive bodybuilders are the ones who are exceptional in both their potential for muscular size and proportions and their responsiveness to anabolics.

    Nautilus was a dumb gimmick which is why it never survived the test of time. However, Authur Jones was a brilliant and highly capable businessman.

      Respectfully disagree in which "it was too good to be true" in the line of the machines. If it's too good get it out of the business and keep pushing the mediocre --if you look hard enough, you can witness that everywhere.

    He’s such a bad fitness interviewer DONT think he knew anything about it . Keeps going to his next question without exploring the present one fully.

    Free weights allow greater freedom of movement and range of motion. The only limitation in the barbell / dumbbell is your joints. Machines have constant resistance ( this is great) free weights have variable resistance (so machines can provide superior time under tension) Jones spoke clearly, authoritatively and with great vocabulary for his time. Most of what he is saying is wrong or CAP in this video. Great sales but lies. People fall for rich people who seem educated. Imagine how many other great men were completely wrong

    Barbells are still here.
