Something worth mentioning is that the Transsyberia was the first generation Cayenne which had a 2 speed transfer case. This is a later 958 generation which has a single speed transfer case with no low-range gear.
958 is not a Porsche designation. The first gen is the 9PA, second gen is the 92A, and the third gen is the 9YA or 9YB for the coupe. It’s he other designations are E1, E2, and E3 for first, second, and third gen.
You are correct about the transfer cases though. The 9PA has a 2-speed transfer case with a 6-speed gearbox. The 92A has a single speed transfer case with an 8-speed gearbox. I think Porsche figured the extra gears made up for the lack of the two speed gearbox.
@@SomeGuy. I realize they aren’t official Porsche designations, but the 955, 957, and 958.1 / 958.2 monikers are used very commonly. Even more than the technically-correct 9PA and 92A.

I absolutely love that Hot Rodders are still at it. The fit and finish has improved but it still comes down to a guy in his garage making what the factory created better suit his wants/needs. 4x4ing evolved from Overlanding. We're just getting back to it. Problem is for most of the Country, you can't really Overland without somebody's panties getting in a twist.

It's not a capable off-road vehicle! just keep it in mind. It is not body-on-frame like Lexus GX 460 or LX 570. and it doesn't have 4-low mode and central differential. I tried both Porsche Cayenne and GX 460 in the wild. GX 460 is unbeatable. and being on a unibody is more detrimental for off-road as it lacks ruggedness. but unibody tends to be safer and has better fuel economy.
