I have a 2009 GTS - it's a 957, instead of a 955, and it has the big 4.8L naturally aspirated V8. Got it a few years ago, and paid $17k when it had 83k miles - and I love it (it's my daily driver). Some of the issues shown still apply (Cardan shaft bearing, front seat backs, worn bushings and boots) - but others are not an issue : water pipes are not plastic (although I believe there is a plastic barb that is glued in on the front, and the glue can wear out), bore scoring is not an issue (different manufacture process). You did not mention replacing the "dog bone" engine torque damper - the rubber in that gets old and worn (easy fix), nor looking for water under the front mats (the drain for A/C condensation can get plugged, causing water to accumulate in the cabin under the front mats - which is an issue, because the wiring harness there can be compromised). Wrenching yourself is the way to go to save $$$ - I've replaced thermostat, water pump, serpentine belt, CV axle, plugs and coils, hood shock, fixed seat backs, and fixed sagging head liner. Note that you will break things while fixing other things (can be intentional - but usually not) - I cracked the line from the Air/Oil Separator (AOS) to the intake manifold when I tried to disconnect it because it was so brittle, and had to replace it with a new one (although a quick fix with metallic tape worked for a couple weeks while I waited for the part). The GTS may also be a bit easier to work on - no auxiliary air pumps at the back of the engine. I also had to get a set of wheels for snow tires, as I could not source snow tires for the 21" wheels, and ended up getting a set of 19" wheels for snow tires. Without doing anything else, I have taken it both to the track and out on logging roads in Colorado and Montana (even in the winter), and not had any issues. Only complaint is gas usage - if I throw it over a cliff, it might get 14 mpg on the way down. Put it in sport mode and floor it, and you can see the needle fall towards empty. I also wish it was the manual transmission (another rare option).

I have a 2014 4.8 GTS which replaced my 2005 S 4.5 which had bore scoring at 225K. Lost cylinder 6, but the 4.8 NA has been Bullet proof. My Diesel is awesome pushing 300K and still super tight. The Diesel S 4.2 is the best of them all but I had to ship it from D gray market.

Very excited to see this video. I have owned a 2006 Cayenne Turbo S for about 1 year now. Its a secondary machine for me so hasn't been a daily driver. I was quite comfortable purchasing it from a close friend, since i knew what work he and the previous owner had done. It feels extremely grounded and has alot of power, even by todays standards. It really is an outlier in the Porsche history books. only 1500 Turbo S produced in 2006, 600-700 which took delivery in the States and Canada. all subjective numbers but i have heard these stats a few times now. Apparently for the final year of the MK1 955, Porsche pulled their Lemans team together to collaborate and engineer the specifics, this might be one of the reasons we were given such a monster for its time. It also happens to be the largest Porsche brake package done factory to date and only seen on the 2006 Turbo S. Its incredible to think the current 2023 Cayenne Turbo, only has 20 more HP totaling 540 HP. This Cayenne Turbo S was the fastest production Porsche from 2006-2010, excluding the Carrera GT. There is something special about the suspension on these, its not as sensitive as other German air ride and failure rates are alot lower vs other mid 2000s German luxury vehicles. Transmission is an Aisin, modified by VW, but also used by Toyota in their Landcruiser and Lexus GX460/LX570. You can probably tell by now that I am quite smitten about this vehicle. I didn't chase this 06 Turbo S but the opportunity came by and I couldn't say no.

I’ve had my cayenne s for 12 years now and it’s been surprising reliable for what it is. Currently sitting at 317k km or 196k miles.
Another common thing is the exhaust flex pipes go out on older ones as well as front wheel bearings aren’t uncommon. Also the engine torque arm is a weak point as well as the expansion tank. Mines got steel springs and I haven’t touched any suspension component in the 12 years I had it. They were really overbuilt cars !!

Otherwise the pulleys and belt have never been touched and the a/c components are still original and work fine.

Great video! . . Another mechanic's option to check the coolant pipes (at 15:00 minutes) is to use a *digital borescope* aka fiber optic inspection camera in the same location. These devices have an *LED light* and a large view-screen that makes it easy to perform a quick inspection without removing the intake manifold. Price and quality ranges from $50 (for small-screen generic units or cellphone attachments) to $200+ (from manufactures like Milwaukee, Rigid, etc.).

I bought a 2009 Turbo S, nice shape all records..but...I have the dreaded steering lock faulty. So she sat for a year in my garage dead because I'm not paying 9k to replace the steering column on a 15k car. (I'll fix it eventually but it was a pita. Cost me close to $1000 between getting it towed to the dealer then the diagnosis then the tow home!)

I've only seen one with the spare tire; driving in traffic' really neat seeing you swing it out and close. Spot-on analysis and review!
I've had my 2004 turbo for twelve years, and it only has 72k miles. I've already dealt with the headlight wiring harnesses, and had to replace one headlight because of the wiring in the headlight. My rear hatch struts are weak and I just bought a new pair for a little Spring project. Alcantara headliner is just starting to droop a little. It sits in the garage on a trickle charger Nov-March in Illinois.
In my first year of owning this "truck", it was a little expensive - the low pressure fuel pump died, then suddenly realizing the horns didn't work and having to remove the front bumper to replace them.... I hated it before I loved it. I'll probably keep it forever. Someday I want to find out what might be under the front passenger seat. Many cars put the battery on the passenger side, but Cayenne's is under the driver's seat. Seems wrong from a weight balancing standpoint, perhaps the fuel tank is mostly on the pass. side(?)
I generally enjoy working on my Mercedes cars more, but the Cayenne is pretty mechanic friendly too.

My favourite Cayenne is a VW Touareg V10. You can put the engine into a cayenne if you want given they're essentially the same truck...Cayenne has sportier suspension options and better brakes but you'll be replacing those soon after buying it regardless of which route you go.
Reason I say the V10 is better is because it's got over 550lb-ft of torque to make up for the fact these trucks are heavy. While only 300HP on the stock tune you it's also happy to make around 450 with a simple remap if you're willing to sacrifice some torque and delete some emissions equipment...Better know how to wrench on your own diesel though as nobody seems to want to work on them.

Those 4.5 v8 end up very bad choice... unreliable with lots of things going wrong. 3.2 VR6 from Golf V R32 was the most reliable in the prefacelft version. Later, they fix the bugs that 4.5 had in facelift 4.8 v8.

Talk about confusing schizophrenia from these guys. At 11:04 he calls these three vehicles "CARS" and a few seconds later he calls them "TRUCKS"!!! I'd say skip the confusion and call them high performance luxury SUV's. I love my 2014 Cayenne GTS fully optioned. Great tow vehicle for my 4400 lb two azle travel trailer. Actually fun to pull the trailer. Especially on entrance ramps ha ha. Nobody expects you to get up to highway speed that fast.

This guy is full of bs when he says that the turbo can't hold to the turbo s when pulling. The difference between the 955/9PA turbo and turbo s is just a factory soft tuning (aside from bigger braking discs). The 70 aditional horsepower are tuned for high end speeds, not for 0-100 / 100-200 acceleration. This is consemnated, don't take my word for it. Go check the times/specs, are posted online

Listening to him drone on about all the wrong things about this ride....listening to him hearing himself talk and worst yet, how anyone can listen to this trying to convince that these late models examples are still relevant is a waste of time.
