- My 2021 Toyota Tacoma has been my primary adventure vehicle for 3 years and 86,000 miles. Although its been great, I was ready for the next build so when a 957 Porsche Cayenne came into the equation... well just watch to find out ;)

I am about to buy a Cayenne and make it my whole personality after watching this holy moly great work Sam!!
Congrats on the new build! These things are so capable and comfortable, you can’t go wrong.
Thank you! Absolutely, I’m siked on it!
Great car to explore the world, one breakdown at the time. Good luck!
Welcome to the Cayenne community. Looks great so far.
Hey, thanks! Loving it so far
Great cinematography! I can hardly wait for you next vid!
Wow, thank you so much! I can’t wait to get one out there!
that rig looks absolutely badass, like a rally car.
But I trust Porsche reliability about as far as I can throw it. Hopefully it's got you home in one piece.
well done video and very nice optics! the build looks great so far. salute from switzerland
Cheers from the US! So glad you liked it!
Hey cool build, now show us some trips you do in it and show the performance of the build. The builds are good and all but the trip is what you built it for 😎
Nice work dude , I am not much into over landing as much as in mountain pass driving but this video introduced me to this new thing with nice presentation , you are getting a new subscriber and I am gaining a new intrest. Best of luck
Great video I got a 2009 Cayenne with 3.6 motor and I am getting ready to install eurowise 2.5” lift but I am second guessing if I should go with a 2008 Cayenne S instead
Danggg look at that thing!
You see your reflection or somethin?
Don’t listen to these naysayers. I have run both and honestly the Porsche is more solid, reliable, and easier to work on plus the driving experience is greatly enhanced. The Toyota had more diabolical engineering mysteries, sloppy fitment troubles, and more things to scratch my head over or curse about. You made a good decision
Not a Cay-fan but the videography and editing is lit!
Clean build need more off-roading and commentary on performance and where it could be improved further.
reaching the end of the tunnel on my road less traveled 2012 Q7 TDi build with Eurowise stuff. Mounting the a SuperWinch 12k this weekend on a Eurowise winch mount bumper.
How good are these actually offroad? I have been considering getting rid of my Disco 4 for one but don't want to go backwards in towing/offroad capability..
Sweet video by the way
Gorgeous video and build. Are you planning on sleeping in it, or just ground tenting? Cheers!
Thank you so much! The seats in this lay completely flat actually so I am able to sleep inside!
Really cool looking vehicle, not sure however that the Porsche's chassis and body are made to survive such "Real Off-Road" challenges. It's a Sports Utility Vehicle which was never really meant to see anything off-road apart from your front lawn. Hope it works out for you. I really like it 👍
@@robertw.1499 I guess we will find out!😉
Porsche off road 😊
Amazing! Good job! 👏 ❤
This looks so cool! Well done. I was thinking about putting a spacer lift on my unibody SUV but I read that it causes extra wear on the ball joints and can cause the suspension to fail. Probably fine for riding around town but risky for overloading/offroading. Is this a real concern or is it overblown?
Out of curiosity, what made you decide on the base motor Cayenne over the V8?
Availability with the car and engine parts availability being that it's a VW motor! If I were to do it again id probably go with an S and the NA V8
Great build so far. Why did you decide on the base model vs S vs Turbo? Fuel economy? Cheers
I havent even watched the video, but when i saw the title I was like, what are the odds. I have a 2005 Sequoia and have been trying to figure out something a little "nicer" to drive daily or on trips while still being able to go offroad with little concern. The Cayenne or LX570 is where I'm at. Its hard to not want to take plunge into a Cayenne Turbo too, but price might make that decision for me.
I'm curious of what you think about the build quality - fit/finish - etc between the two. My guess is the "feel" inside the Porsche is far superior to the Toyota.......
Did it come with the off-road pack? Are there Cayennes without PDCC that had the rear locker?
I wanna see the Porsche at wheeler lake 😮💨
Is that by cherry creek?
Looks awesome. Tons and 40’s! Hahaha
Lets see how this age!
What was the tire size on this? I’ve in a 2010 S trim. It’s been great. Endless maintenance and repair but never left me stranded. 160,000kms and runs like new still. I’m on the fence of freshening up with a new look or upgrade to newer.
That'd be great! I chose 33x12.5s, they require a bit if trimming as you saw but they look fantastic
Looks great! What are the specs of the wheels and tire setup. Curious because I have a turbo s with some 20 in rotiforms currently
Thanks! The wheels are 18x9, +25 offset and those are Mesh’s from EF wheels (owned by Eurowise). The tires are true 33x12.5” Toyo RT trails! Not sure what year yours is but I’m sure you’d have to relocate intercoolers and do some trimming to fit them
You can't sleep on a PIG. Nice rig hope you can keep your headlights.
@@VieweronUA-cam me too 😂
Amazing! cool car and color! Is the stock color? Or what color code is it?
Thank you! It is, it’s olive green metallic, code M6U!
The tax alone here in England is nearly $900 per year. They want SUVs and older cars off the road for sure.
Sheeeshhh I dig it !!! 🤘🤘
Thank you!
would love to get a Kitchen box video if that hasnt been made yet!
I’ll definitely add it to the list! What is the biggest thing you’d want to see on that?
@@Samoffgrid After seeing Talons' Video, def want to see it in more detail, IE, what case, what burners, what you love about it, what you would change, ETC..
Really get a in depth nerdy deep dive into it, maybe wrap that into your full interior build out?
I know for me I want to replicate that exact kitchen set-up since I've gotten something similar but that looks so much more dialed
Fantastic Build! I like the vision you had for the stock Porsche. Your cinematography artform you have with the camera eye also shows in your build of the Porsche. Subscribe for more? Hell yeah!
That means so much! Thank you for the kind words! The Cayenne came such a long way😂 but it turned out!
Please work on your audio. Moreover, what are fuel numbers before and after the conversion.
I have a Cayenne V8 twin turbo and is no where near my 4Runner liability.
And the 4Runner is no where near the driving experience of the Cayenne
the offroad community is funny, if you put a 2in spacer lift on a Jeep or Toyota you'd be crucified for being poor and it sucking but you put the same lift on a Pcar and everyone goes to check FB market because now they want to copy you. Looks great though I totally would drive one keep it up man
Shockingly true 😂
You've just replaced a car built by the world's most reliable car manufacturer for a Porsche. No one in Australia would ever do this.
exactly, try new things, don’t be boring
“That is why no one will remember your name” - Achilles (probably)
Funny enough I’m in Australia and know a few people that have built these things up, not gonna lie my Hilux is ass compared to my mates cayenne rig
😂😂😂😂
Porsche is very much ultra reliable theres a reason why they compete in 24 hours of Le mans just like Toyota
This is another poseur build, with decent editing and plenty of cringe!
Big poseur build! Definitely won’t see any dirt, only malls
@@Samoffgrid liftkit, oversize tyres with crap clearance, unpractical bullbar. Ladies and gentlemen the Memelander has entered the chat. 🤣
@@nealwilson8741looks like you don’t know a whole lot about vehicle builds!🤡
Bro what could he have done to not be considered a poser? btw are you French mate? Lol... this is America and we spell it poser not poseur like some limp wristed frenchy... so explain fat pockets on how this thing should have been built by a French poseur?? He built his ride the way he wanted to scoob.. that's what's beautiful about life, people have their own taste.. like by reading your comment, I can tell you like hotdogs, large ones, and you are probably preferable to the month of June.. HAHAHAHA
I understand you probably have the money but have you ever considered this is a huge waste of time and money? Lmao
Well no, and actually you’d probably be surprised to hear that it’s worth about twice as much as I have into it!
@@Samoffgrid happy building!
Why is that? Building overland cayennes actually is profitable and they are extremely capable off-road. Way more than that Toyota was with a higher tow rating too.
Dude. This video HITS. Great job, the effort you put into everything from the Porsche to the videography really shows.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that, it means a ton!
I have spent some 15 years or more overlanding in an 80-series land cruiser, then bought another one, then my son bought a 100-series and I bought a Cayenne. I must admit that I am surprised. Of course, that thing is smaller but it handles like a train on rails, it is very comfortable and actually capable off-road. My son destroys absolutely everything (he's been through a few surrons, dirt bikes, a Silverado etc) and after 30K miles driving the Cayenne and doing absolutely poor/ghetto maintenance, it works great. That's a keeper and a welcome surprise. The base trim, which I have, is kind of slow but much more simple and more than enough for overlanding.
Please make a video with your impressions of driving the Porsche. How does it feel on the road compared to the Toyota, cruising, wind noise, fuel consumption, at high speed, on a twisty road, etc. What about in town driving. Does it struggle while overlanding ? What are the things you like and dislike about the Porsche? I am really interested about this topic. Thanks.
This is a frickin masterpiece, you need to make content weekly, million subs.
I just found your channel after purchasing a 955 Cayenne S that I'm thinking of converting to a mild offroad build. Your footage is fantastic! Really beautiful work. Very inspiring. The build looks great, too!! As of now I'm leaning toward a little lift and wheels/tires that won't require cutting fenders or removing bumpers. It's going to be a daily and a work vehicle so don't want it to be too aggressive. Again, great job.
Videography and angles are amazing !!!
you are a hidden gem you really deserve way more keep going
Thank you so much! That truly helps with motivation!
Hey bud, While I may not be into overlanding, I am in love with my 958 Cayenne S. Easy to maintain, Crazy good performance, and So damn comfortable. Your 957 will treat you well! She looks incredible.
Cayennes are great SUV but you cant really compare at all. Driving 2021 Cayenne now myself Toyotas are in the different league. Germans require a LOT of attention and are very sensitive to Oils and Gasoline quality. But Enjoy ;)
Incredibly well made video man! the only gripe I have is that the audio seemed extremely soft through my headphones at max volume (even though the ad before it was loud). I really liked the whole no nonsense vibe with just straight storytelling. Keep it up man and I hope to see more videos from you in the future!
Turned out so good, well done Sam.
Love the build man! Glad you chose the VR6. Definitely the most reliable option and even though it's a base model (290hp) it still has more power than your old Tacoma lol. I have the exact same spec :)
Thank you! It 100% was the best choice, VR6 on coils! With gear and 33x12.5s I was getting 17mpg😂 and I can actually pass people on the hwy lol very happy with how this turned out
This is my father's dream car. I'm in the process of getting him one and yours looks amazing!
Production value on this video goes crazy man. Earned a new sub for sure brother.
Sick build! Don’t listen to the haters. Most do not understand that Cayenne ownership isn’t as costly as they think. Also that money put into making a good rig is just about the same as all of the other common builds out there.
Subbed. Most wouldn't do what you did just because of the thought of maintenance costs on that ting. Genuinely interested to see how that rig performs for you.
I’m about to do the same! I have fallen in love with these over lander builds. I’m probably going to get an 04-08 S or turbo S with steel springs and added horsepower. I didn’t realize that base models were just as capable as the S and turbo models. Great video by the way and as a fellow videographer your shots were amazing. I look forward to seeing your other videos. Keep up the great work 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Not everyone realises that the Cayenne is a Q7 and a Touareg and an Urus… and you are doing work yourself, so you know which parts to get and where…
I am in South Africa ….had 2 Touaregs….albeit the mk1 2.5 diesel And then mk 2. v6 diesel…not a worry ever….crossed South Africa and Namibia…with both …..
have fun…on and off the road… in comfort…
Great contents and build. What size tires/rims are you running?
Feel like I’m watching the American off road version of Jeremy Clarkson.
What size wheels and tyres are you running to fit over those calipers? 👍🏻
How hard was it to install the spacer lift?
I drive a ‘14 Touareg and thought about doing it myself.
What a damn good video 🤘🏼
I really like it - keep on going 🤝🏼
Greetings from Germany
Thanks a ton! It means a lot to me!🫶🏽
Love it. But when they break… gotta have deep pockets. Been there with my 04 Cayenne…Now it’s back to the 4Runner for me.
However, best of luck.👊
Good thing I do all the work myself 😉 thanks much!
omg
the first music is so good
knows anybody the name? plssss
Duuuuude what a video! looking good, Im installing my eurowise lift this week and also the toyo rt trail
Let’s gooo!🔥 thank you! And you’re going to love it!
How have its handling and overall behavior changed when on asphalt?
I would've change the lights too
Why is it so saggy in the rear?
What wheels did you chose? I'm currently building a Cayenne Overlander and also got the Eurowise lift.
These are the Meshs from EF wheels (owned by Eurowise) my favorite wheel by far. If you call them, tell them I sent you!
Broooooo, that's pretty awesome) and picture are amazing )!
Glad you like it!
Hey bro - I did the same in Cape Town , South Africa with a 2007 cayenne diesel!
What's 1/4 mile time on that build?
Probably just a tad slower than the GTR
Hello Samuel, how many miles did the Cayenne has when you bought it? I see it is the V6, right? Happy with that engine?
Yes, correct! This had 130k miles on it and I went with the VR6 for reliability vs the turbos and parts availability being that it's a VW engine. It still makes about 300 hp and hasn't felt underpowered at all! If I were to do it again id probably go with the S, so the NA V8.
So sick!!!
I am no offroad expert, but what about locking diffs and stuff like that?
These 957s actually have a center locker and low range. You'd definitely add more Offroad capability by adding a rear or front locker
Did it come with the off-road pack? Are there Cayennes without PDCC that had the rear locker?
Mine did not and I’m unsure on that second part. Mines standard with low range and a center locker, I believe the rear lockers are unicorns
@@Samoffgrid thank you for the reply. Is it really complicated to install the aftermarket lockers for the Touareg/Cayenne? Do you have any idea on this matter?
😢
That's next-level!
First gen Cayenne is a hard core off road vehicle. Great choice.
Hey man, great build! I'm wondering if you could show the electircal work/wiring for the lights a bit? I'm struggling with that on my build. I would be pleased if you could help out, since there isn't that much information about that in the internet.
Greetings from Germany.
I thought you were doing this for proper overlanding in some of the most treacherous terrains in the world. Porsches are just too complex for proper overlanding. Imagine it breaking down in the middle of nowhere in South America or Africa. You'd be so screwed.
Correct me if I’m wrong but with the 2.5” lift, ground clearance improved but wheel articulation suffered?
Oh absolutely correct. I have the travel of a go kart but I still have plans to do full suspension
@@Samoffgrid can’t wait to watch it!! Good luck on your adventures!
If you dont have oil spells from the engine, your next check point is the transfer case; which need to be strengthened to coop with harsh offroading; usually this part internalls are already cooked if not maintained and lubraicated properly
Hey mate thanks for the video, could you please tell me which models had the transfer case and diff locks? Also aren't these Cayenne inherently unreliable?? Cheers Steve.
The Wheels look Amazing. Nice Build! Have fun!
Hey dude what size wheels did you go with? Love the stance and look of yours. I'm currently building a wrecked cayenne I picked up and am already looking at wheels/tires 😂
Oh awesome! These are EF Mesh wheels, 18x9 +25 offset! My favorite Cayenne wheels by far
Waiting for Ferrari Purosangue & Rolls-Royce Cullinan
You’ll be spending more on maintenance..you know that right..I have an fj and two cayennes.. but they are good fun 😊
That’s why I went with the VR6 and steel springs:) way less to worry about and way more reliable!
Can you do a video explaining the difference of the driving quality between the two vehicles and what you are experienced is going to porsche
I could do that! The quick synopsis however is that Toyota doesn’t compare even slightly to the driving experience that the Porsche offers. The Tacoma is overly built and will take you literally anywhere you need to go but is almost a chore to drive.
It looks amazing!!
Thank you! Glad you like it!
I like what I see! Congrats Samuel! :-)
Прекрасный автомобиль! Удачи!
Very high-quality edits, brother. Keep it up!
Fun video mate. Keep up the good work.
big mistake what you have done ,,
Okay I need a Cayenne now! Love the build Sam!
Carrying gear and weight that's exceeding the spring weight. I have plans on upgrading the suspension next!
Killer Sam
