This video made me discover your channel a while back and it's one of my favorite "gamejam-primer-watch" I like coming back to it, like today, while my head is starting to spark in anticipation for Ludum Dare next week!
I love making games, but too often I fall in that self inflicted decision paralysis because I over think it and think too "commercially" about my game making. Working in the industry does make you think a bit like that over time and slowly kills the magic you have when you're still first learning to make games. Hunting that spark back; if that's even possible!

I just really like challenging games and platformers, difficult games like Celeste and Hollow Knight do inspire me a lot, and I just wanted to make one so much! We launched it on Steam on 30th July of last year, and we got noticed by a Polish studio that ported and published our game on the Switch. Now here we are, with our little student project on the Switch, getting much more attention than we ever dreamed of getting!

Goodgis (dunno if I can call you Mark haha), this video can be 3 years old already, but it resonates with me today. At the beginning of this year, I tried (twice) to make a game about breaking blocks on the phone, like something to "smash" your screen and get points (the second iteration was more doing gestures tho). I tried because people love small dumb phone games that you just open and play quickly (me included), and this way I could make a hit or at least a good sum of money with ads (and I hate ads in games, look how far we go sometimes for money ugh). Those were some of the most miserable months in game development I had so far. I ditched the ideas and started more interesting projects. I still feel I threw time away but at the same time, I keep repeating to myself that I learned a lot at that time. I am still trying to succeed in making games, trying to make something final and launch (and also sell it, not saying much, but have been unemployed for almost 2 years now heh).
Keep up the great content o/ I have followed you for a while and have to tell you your content is very inspirational so thanks for it :)

Hey bro, This is amazing! I really love game developing and I remember about a year ago I spent months trying to learn Unity and C#. I then took a break for a while, took to blender and completely forgot how to do anything in unity lol. I have been watching all of your videos (literally) and they are really helpful and entertaining :) Before I get properly back into game development I might look into Godot because your video on Godot vs Unity really changed my mind so I guess I'll see! Also when will the next Firith game jam be? I might participate 🤞Anyway have a good day, your really underrated, and Stay epic!

After seeing a lot of indie developers on UA-cam push things like marketing and getting your game to a wide audience, it's refreshing to see someone make a game straight from their heart with no obsession over what others would think and (hopefully) no extreme crunch.

This video I guess resonates with me because Im just wrapping up learning Godot and Im sorta in a limbo of what kind of game I should make that is popular and trendy (For example my friends telling me to make a class based shooter.) but this video sorta told me that no, I dont need to "Try Hard" to make a game that in the end I dont enjoy and that I dont want to play and instead make a game that I want to make and play. (Like my monster collection game Ive been planning.)

Good point that we all must remind our selves about.
If you develop to live that's no bad thing but if you work alone just be careful of burning out . that's a must to know thing . I just had a conversation with someone about this.
I didn't know that I want to be an indie game developer. I alawys remember how I came at the first place. Thanks to youtube algorithm it recommend me to watch a game jam because I was watching speed running the whole time. Inspired me to know more about this jorney approximately 5.5 years ago.
    I didn't make a single cent yet .
But I enjoy it I still want to create games it's like Lego playfield .Yes I want to make money but I don't rip-off replication of popular games .
I want to polish my games even if it takes years .
If I want money I would be a UA-camr. It's the same thing but from other prespactive game development is much much bigger challenging yet rewarding job .
    Thanks for sharing this
