  • For the first time, genetically modified seeds have been made available to the common gardener for home use in the form of a purple tomato. But the real question to ask is, what are GMO seeds, and is this something to be excited about, or should we be concerned? Let's dive in together.

I'm in the "5%" who are not interested in growing GMO seeds.😊

I just find it hard to believe that 95% of backyard gardeners want to grow anything GMO. We like to save seeds. I grow a garden and raise chickens for eggs and meat because I want to feed my family healthy foods.

@@nancygrogan6082 I agree, I seriously doubt that many people want to contaminate their homestead with GMO produce. We also keep chickens and try to be self-sufficient. 👍

I want to start gardening to get away from gmos, I'm looking through local farmers to purchase meat from to get away from birth control in chicken meat and c.o.v.i.d vaccines in the pork and possibly now beef...

Maybe their “poll” was done on the company employees producing these seeds. I’m a definite “NO!”

Probably done on the general population, who would like to grow in their imaginations, but don’t really grow anything.

Very informative, and not at all where I thought this was going when I first started watching it. I'm with you on not using GMO. We stay with heritage breeds and just started seed saving, this will be our 3rd year of planting seeds we harvested from last years crop. We've got a small 11 acre farm with 38 raised beds (4x8, 4x10, 4x12) and 50 laying hens. We also raise and process about 90 chickens a year. These feed my son and daughter-in-law and their 5 kids along with my wife and I. We can and process everything ourselves, and I'll be getting into freeze drying in another year. I told my wife about your work and she bought your book 😬

My efforts to learn how to grow food and to buy wisely what I can’t grow, is specifically to avoid things like gmo’s, heavily sprayed crops and who knows whatever else has been put in the meat and crops for way too long. Good info, thank you Melissa.

Hot topic! Many people have been talking about this subject. Recently, I listened to the MIGardener video explaining the differences between heirloom, open-pollinated, and hybrid. It was pretty interesting. But most of the gardening channels have been saying that backyard gardeners cannot get GMO seeds. This must have come up very recently. I don’t grow a garden so I can have everything exactly like the grocery store sells. I want good, pure, untainted produce. The Bible verse you chose was SPOT ON! Boy, do we have to be careful!

These hit the market on Feb 3, 2024, so, yes, very recently launched. I just found out about them, a few days after I got my first seed order, by watching a Roots and Refuge video where Jess was talking about it.

I absolutely love how you used Scripture. That makes me admire you all the more.

Such good info. The spending several years of seed saving and regrowing over many seasons for the desired fruit is called Landrace gardening.😊 I've been doing it for several years before I learned there is a name and a group of farmers and gardeners that participate in this way of gardening. New t-shirt : say NO to GMO 😅 thx

The discussion between what seeds are what is still ongoing.
Open Pollinated means it was pollinated by natural means. i.e. wind for corn, large flying insects for squash. In other words, planted in a open garden and let nature do it's thing.
To be an open pollinated variety, it has to be genetically stabilized and isolated from other varieties.
Heirloom is a proven genetically stable variety over a long time. Heirlooms can be grown in a greenhouse and hand pollinated. That would not be open pollinated but still heirloom.
Even Heirlooms have genetic variability. Open pollinated heirloom seeds will have more genetic variability than hand pollinated heirloom seeds. This results in heirlooms that will produce in a wider variety of garden conditions.
Open pollinated indicates genetically stable but not, necessarily, heirloom.

Monsanto, also planted their GMO corn on purpose next to farms that didn't have their GMO corn. Just so they could sue them! This is a huge purple flag that needs to be addressed and scrutinized!!
I was going to seed save anyway this year but now even more than ever!!

And a curious thought: if the powers that shouldn’t be can modify plants and animals, it’s very likely that humans are being modified as well.
Scripture says when Christ returns, it’ll be “as the days of Noah”, which consisted of abominable modifications against God’s design. I think we are here. Buckle up because God’s wrath is about to be poured out on the ungodly.
