- There were many cameras running this afternoon. Here comes another version of popular Tuba Skinny in Châtel-Guyon, France, May 21st, 2018. As part of their European Tour, this small, old and lovely spa village, draw our attention and we couldn´t have had a better stay. TS had sets for 3 days in "Jazz aux Sources à 20 ans". The weather was great, blue skies, sun and not too warm; only one very short thunderstorm passed by, cleaning the air right before this performance. For those that couldn't make it to this great festival and for the lucky ones who were spot on, we are happy to share this footage, the last set this day. The second encore comes separate. One happy viewer wondered what we who like this music could do to for Tuba Skinny, a band that spreads so much joy. We would say, why not go see them in their home city, get the full atmosphere and for sure, buy their recordings, CDs and vinyls - it is their livelihood! New Orleans has a lot to offer and is well worth a serious visit! Videographed with a SONY HandyCam FDR-AX100, FH-quality.
Every time I hear a more recent recording of Tuba Skinny, they just keep getting better. They have really gotten their total act together with their French tour, and now they're gelling better than they ever have in 10 years since Shaye Cohn founded the group. This band is really on a roll and destined for world famous status.

If you live in Europe, here is your chance, according to their schedule, Tuba Skinny will be touring Europe in July. This far Turkey, Austria and France will be graced by their appearance. Wish we could make it to both Austria and France. France seems to be their favourite scene; you can tell by their eyes, smiles, head and body movements and speech, as well how good they perform. Definitely one of their better tunes with interesting changes.
It is great to hear Tuba Skinny together again, happy and on top form. Individually they are great and totally-dedicated musicians. But collectively they are in a different place again. Perhaps the greatest blues and traditional jazz band ever. I wonder if even they know how special they have become.

Thank God Shay found that horn. Maybe Grandpa guided her to it because the girl is absolutely wonderful on it and I'm convinced she plays with a "Divine" inspiration. The world of music has gotten better since these folks got together. I've been listening to them four four days straight and can't seem to get enough, LORD help me!

navretvet the horn Shaye plays in this video is a very old Yamaha that came to her through Ben Polcer, a friend she met early in her New Orleans days. Ben's father, Ed Polcer, played that horn during his successful career, a career that included performing in Benny Goodman's small group. That was her only cornet for many years. Since November of 2019 she has played a King Master cornet.

I'm in my 50s, and thanks to Cohn and the rest of the band, which plays the happiest music I've ever heard, I want to learn how to play the cornet!
Instead of buying myself another gun for Father's Day, I'm going to get a cornet, and TS CDs and vinyl records for when I cook outside on the grill, and for when I make breakfast, and for when I make wine spritzers for my wife... for any occasion that calls for a good mood and general all-around happiness!

No matter how long a set is, we try our best to steady the camera and stay focused, trying to follow the flow of music, thus enhancing picture and sound, enveiling their love of their joint efforts, playing the good stuff. And not to forget, showering us with joy, never showing off or putting oneself ahead of the others. We only have one go to get it right, there are no retakes or editing, that will be truer to each and every listener/viewer. Thanks Donnie for your comment! Great vocal by Erika on "Squeeze Me," (beg. c.20:50)...especially on the chorus, where she really lays it down, obviously feeling and enjoying every note! This is one of her best efforts that I've heard on YT, and one of my favorites by anybody of this tune, bringing new life to an old jazz standard.
