The Z4 is probably the nicest sounding V8 Ive heard to date lol. The brutal sound and thunder of The americas is amazing too but man, watching that Z4 snake up the Mario Andretti straight at Mosport, through the trees is just perfect!

They're both cross plane V8s revving past 8k, so they're going to sound similar. The only reason the sounds aren't closer is NASCAR exhausts have absolutely zero muffling.

If the m1 engine was on a road car without modifications, It would have huge costs of maintenance, and that maintenance should be done regularly. The engine in the e28 m5 it's a detuned and adapted version of the m1 engine.
worked on a couple of procars....both had replacement t45 roll cages,as the previous ones were aluminium.and one had blew up chasing a porsche down the mulsanne straight...lovely motor,with epic raucous exhausts.
All these people saying the S14 sounds better than anything on this list are insane. It definitely deserves to be on here, but it to me it just sounds too similar to k20/K24 to mean anything to me, and I hear those everynight. The M88, M49, and S70 sound the most special in my view.

BMW M3 E46 GTR GT2 (2004-05) has to be one of the best. P60B40 v8 was at its peak of engineering and performance for the E46 at that time. The drivetrain was the best sounding at that time too. Go watch onboard videos from the 2004 VLN and the 2004 Spa 24. The fly-by and exhaust notes were so unique and beautiful, it was like a crazy inline 4 mixed with an awesome v8

Straight cut gears is not one of the forms of gearboxes I.E manual, sequential, automatic. You can have a manual transmission in a race car with straight cut gears, you can also have a sequential gearbox with straight cut gears. You can also have paddle shift race cars with straight cut gears e.g. a gt3 car. If you own a manual car, put it in reverse and reverse quickly, you'll hear a whine, that is because on many normal road cars the reverse gear is straight cut.

Sorry to dissapoint you, but as the electric cars have the batteries on the floor, the center of gravity it's lower. That usually means better cornering. I'm a fan of gasoline Cars, but electric cars are the future even if we don't like it
Carlos Garcia ,that's not the case ,I even have a proof ,even rotary engined and flat engined cars have nearly the same centre of mass as that of electrics,but according to the theory ,during high revs ,electric motors tend to have it's torque and power slope downwards ,but for internal combustion engines,it keeps increasing,I experienced this here in Sweden in our university when I was having a race with an electric Saab in my Toyota 86 with a flat engine ,we decided to head through the nearby pine forest roads with a lot of corners ,that electric had a 700 hp unit and mine was just 300.at the beginning,it just ran away through the straight ways ,I was like 10 m away ,but suddenly I noticed that his speed had decreased even when the throttle was high,as said by him,and I managed to take that corner quickly and won the race! ....the thing is that electrics are built for low rpm applications,such as in train and fork trucks,it is used in hybrid cars as a launcher to gain acceleration,mean while the engine is used in performance! Iam not saying that electrics can't perform better ,for example the pininfarina,which is my favourite....for the clear evidence,watch a rimac track car ,now go for a corvette or a cobra and watch it at zero volume,the engine wins!

I'm in love with Z4 E89 (and I have civil version) and it's V8 sound but must admit that this old E30 M3 race sound is more pure and nature. Rest of them are too generic and tinny.
The McLaren F1 ist only the Engine Made by BMW. Sounds great but for me not a BMW Racecar. Woud change The F1 GTR with the M3 E92 GT2 or the BMW V12 LMR or the M3 E46 GTR LM
The BMW E30 M3 at the beginning is absolute heaven. What a fantastic machine... well, the ultimate driving machine.

If the m1 engine was on a road car without modifications, It would have huge costs of maintenance, and that maintenance should be done regularly.

Nailed it on the head. I love the m20, m30, s50, s52, s54, n54. They are all put to rest by the real engines that proved it all.
