- This was filmed for a competition SBS was having. It was completely scripted and a shot list was made prior to filming. I made it as a top 20 finalist and won some free movie tickets.
Great video. I like the little digs at how loud it is and how limited it’s accessories are. Awesome mate.
These really are neat, neat 4X4's. I have driven them in the jungles of Panama and the mountains of Northern New Mexico and never felt like I couldn't get where I wanted to go! Thanks for a really good video!
So Cool, I owned a '75 model back in the early 80's, when I was 23 :-)
Love this video. One of my favourite FJ40 videos on UA-cam
Frames on these things are absurdly well built. If you can keep em rust free they can last forever. (minor parts replaced of course.) Impossible to find a nice one in B.C. Might move to Aussie land one day..Ill land my hands on one then.
BEST vehicle ever made! Great video.
I got a Prado now but had a 76 FJ40 for a few years and I miss it. I still kick myself that I ever sold it. It's indestructible, will take you places that nothing else short of a Sherman tank will make it to and it's just got the biggest COOL factor of any vehicle. It's MAN'S car and I reckon it'll raise your testosterone levels more than any pill you can take! There'll never be another vehicle like it again...
I agree!!! My dad used to have a 1993 FJ-40 made in Brazil, 5 speed with Mercedes-Benz OM-364 diesel engine (complete stock). Man, it was a real beast on the trail!
I was so familiar with Toyota Fj40. My dad was civil engineer who worked for Indonesian govt since 1965 until he passed away in 1988. Govt always provided him official cars that renewed every few years. Since he got official car around 67-68 until 1984, the cars were always Fj40 petrol, canvas and hardtop.
Loved this, very funny. Brought back all the memories of our childhood cruiser. Not even a milk tanker hitting it at 80km in the fog could kill it... or us lol!
Mine's a 1979 (Feb.).
And I still love this video! Well made!
Such a good little video presentation
my dad had one when i was growing up. i always thought it was so cool to be sitting in the back seat facing the other back seat. except the shocks are really springy and when u hit a good bump you could do some serious damage to your cranium via the roll bars.
FJ40 is like Michael Jackson! A Legend!!!!!!
Mate, I think I own this FJ now. Came across your video by chance.. crazy
That thing is luxurious compared to my 1973 Land Rover ;)
Awesome cruiser, diggin your loafers too.
great video... THANKS!
I had a 72' FJ40 and am 6'3", and had no issues with clearances at all
Thanks for your video You gave me inspiration to restore my truck.
Very nicely done. Love the cruiser!
yeah! gotta love old school, my dads picking up a 78' i believe next week for $500 bucks, its in hawaii so rust is common but just the hood the rest is SOLID!
this was really well done, you could do more of these and get a good viewership. only issue is getting a subject for a video.
Great vid fella... My first 4wd was a 1975 FJ40, damn i miss it. Went everywhere with me. Blew the transfer-case towing a boat in 4wd and started to rust badly, but i would buy another one again...
dude, that is a great truck. we have quite a few of those in south africa that are rust free and in great condition as well as yours. seems a lot cheaper for one in oz than in SA though. in vancouver canada there are some nice ones but very pricey for a tidy one
cool vid bro
I realize you wrote the review for competition, but it's a great review on its own merits. Nicely done!
Great vid and even better car! The car perfectly suited to the real Australia, giving so many Aussies the opportunity to see what our beautiful, diverse country has to offer. What a true classic! It's easy to see why 1 in 10 Landcruisers are owned by Australians!\
Not hard to tell, i'm a Landcrusier owning Aussie!
haha yeah it's massive, thanks for noticing! It is The Dish in Parkes, NSW. The first messages from the Apollo 11 moon landing were received by it.
This makes me want an FJ! Great job.
yours FJ40 is beautiful..! congratulations from Venezuela..!
Well done. I want one so bad. You hardly ever see them in Canada, especially rhd.
as you can see in my name i drive a landcruiser BJ42 ( diesel ) . I love that car so much! It never let me down, no matter what! I hope we still can drive the old cars for a long time because they are REAL cars. The new plastic computer cars from this time are just sh*t. Like if you agree. Thanks
Really cool video and great sense of humour. One of the best I've seen. Always admired this car but sadly never owned one.
They have em in forza horizon 3 and it's a barn find.
im getting one in good condition with no rust which has been passed down my family except its a lwb ute one cant wait
I just brought a fj45 (ute) for about $2000, still need to get it registered though and it has some paint and rust issues. but i'm happy :D
awesome vid! all the same can be said for the bj42 but with most of those creature comforts.. power steer, a/c, disk brakes and 5spd with production up to 1984.. well done though top effort on the vid production.
I use to have a Diesel model. But you have to admit, have a air con and power steering would be nice!!!!
@98gsoup Many countries drive on the left hand side of the road and hence have right hand drive vehicles.
Toyota should bring back these baddies, with a 6cylinder petrol as it is!
@scaidernet
Tu FJ40 tiene un motor que se llama "F" de 3800 cc. A menos que ser tiene un diesel. El carro en el video tiene el motor que se llama "2F" cual tiene 4200 cc..
Alot of these FJs still running around in my country
I love fj40s but I've wheeled both and like Jeep TJs more.
BJ42 w/ the 5 speed and air con. The only 40 series to get!
Good Video,
Yes had a Fj40 and rolled one too. Still love em. Go the Bj42.....
Toyota is quite a vehicle!
are you on the wrong side or did you load the film backwards??
I wish Toyota would make these again
my uncle have 1978, 3.0L inline 4 diesel, it has mastive torque power!! my uncle getting 31MPG highway and 25MPG city
With the 2F, 4 speed and 31" tyres it struggles to do 110km/h on the freeway. You might get it going a bit quicker than that on a long downhill but these aren't built for speed.
Its a lot like my Jeep, but I would trade my jeep for a FJ40. They are so awesome.
Yeah, don't buy these if you're concerned about fuel efficiency. I converted mine to LPG and it's a bit more affordable. Just with 2F motor.
like
Way for than 5 grand today haha hope you still have it!
apik tenan mas dab, neng kene regane isih larang kui, opo maneh sing diesel...manteb gan !
The bezzel is upside down.
Cheers
How does it compare to say a Jeep CJ-7 or CJ-8?
@UltimaRB it could go higher since your fj40 has such big tires and is very tall it makes it slower but it looks better with big tires and tall also this was not built for speed but for power. This car has enough power to pull an 18 wheeler
two words, point dexter
Cool video. Nicely made.
i just got this same year, hows your gas mpg
your front bezel is on upside down nice cruiser though
fj40 will never die on you but if you want air con and power steering but want to keep some of that ruggidness go 60 series
nice video mate love this car getting mine in a few days and i'm getting it for $1,200 cheap as and near to no rust! XD
are parts hard to come by? since its old
10 milles per gallon but it doesn´t care because is part of the history.
is a bj40 and an fj40 pretty much the same thing?
I know a kid who thinks a Subaru can out perform an fj40... I think he's wrong... What do you guys think?
why do you even bother asking....
Okay, Thank you
minimal rust=5k ... boy this vid did not age well (sadly)
Well made, i like it a lot :)
i have a 1979 cj7 and iv only had to change the clutch, fuel pump , fuel filter, all the fuel lines, and it looks like it was wired by someone who was blindfolded. i bought it 4 months ago.....
well, i love toyota land cruiser 1978 model.... its very usefull here in the philippines. ultimaRB can you give me one of yours?
the best
@brandong17
bj's are the 4 cylinder version
is that cheap or expensive?
as soon as you said 4.2 PETROL, i was out
this be my dream car if it were a diesel
they made a similar model in a diesel
if you want a diesel version just check the bj40
The Wide Open Life ..fj petrol . Bj diesel ..
Nice review :)
Nice jeep I love it
that thing is in mint condition. too bad you cant find one for 5k anymore..
modify it! Upgrade it! Lift it! Give it a roll cage!
