Downton Cape Town has a lot to offer. I explored the hidden corners of Long Street while subjecting my body to little needles piercing my body 45 times a second and discussing American politics with a local. Get ready for a wild ride!
This video was re-uploaded because the original contained political talk which UA-cam frowns upon. However, even uploading a new version didn't undo the damage. If you'd like to see the original view it here: rumble.com/v5g...
    03:47 - Bobotie for Lunch
    13:35 - Getting Tattooed
    16:44 - Beautiful Tree
    20:49 - Rooftop Market
    25:04 - Taxi Ride
Thanks to Cape Electric Tattoo in Cape Town (www.capeelectr...) for the awesome job!

Walking around with a camera in that area alone is a BOLD move, that man was not kidding. Also, you were only like 500 yards from the Castle of Good Hope, you were next to the National Houses of Parliament.

I felt perfectly safe. Perhaps I was just naive, but I never felt uncomfortable... well.. mostly.

@@AddyGoesPlaces Cape Town CBD is *generally* safe for like murder and kidnappings and such but the Cape Town Central Police Station (about a 5min walk from where you were) records more cases of theft and robbery than any other station in the country.
I am impressed by your dedication to just walking around and discovering as you go, I live Cape Town and I make sure i research everywhere before I go, my anxiety is too much. 😂

I live in down town, Canadian here for work. One thing I’d suggest is to double check the safety of certain areas. The station with the market you went to is somewhere I personally would never go to, especially with anything I’m not willing to have stolen. It’s not that the station is inherently dangerous but it is a place where a lot of foot traffic of people from (unfortunately) poorer areas are mostly come. Most are honest good to God people who are just there because it’s their only way into the city and they need to travel for work, but unfortunately the areas these trains service are rife with crime and murder, so you can expect that opportunistic criminals will hitch a ride to go into Town to rob and terrorize. It’s the unfortunate reality of the economic situation in Cape Town and South African as a whole. Glad you were safe, but certain areas are more likely to experience crime than others. This was definitely one of them.

The Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock is definitely worth a visit.

Make sure you stick to populated area's. Visit Cape of Good Hope, winelands, Table Mountain, trip around the peninsula, Hout Bay, V&A Waterfront are a few ideas, seafood and fish in Hout Bay is the best also visit places like Muizenberg and Kalk Bay as well as Cape Point. You were also very lucky that someone asked you too leave that area.

There are do many food markets and wine farms in Cape Town - just a few kms from the cbd. What about Kirstenbosch Gardens, and the Cable Car ...

Next time, you should get someone in South Africa to host you at a braai.
Also look into spending a few days in the Cape Winelands next time.
Some really nice eats are Rooti's, Gatsby's, potjiekos, paptert and like I said getting yourself invited to a braai.

Do you ever do any kind of research on a country before you get there? I think if you did your trips would be more enriched and SAFER.

The bird you saw in the Company Gardens is a Hadeda Ibis, which is well known, and noisy bird. You either love them or hate them, because of the noise it makes. Original from Sub-Sahara

That was a very strange Bobotie. It should be highly spiced and very tasty. Not a stew at all. You were VERY VERY lucky you were not mugged. That was the station deck, a most unsafe place.

Some dodgy places that you went, listen to the locals that warned you. Next time you must do your homework watch how many tourists wete murdered all over South Africa. So please don't be misled if you did not have any encounters you were just lucky. Like most countries the majority of people are very nice but don't underestimate the criminals.
