Seriously Surprising First Impressions of South Africa 🇿🇦 vA 157

- I ride from Grunau, in Namibia, to the border with South Africa.
In Grunau, I stay in a beautiful lodge in the middle of the desert. It's funny, the lodge is also a butchery.
A couple of days later, I ride to the border with South Africa, the last border crossing on my way to Cape Town, and I start to reflect on my extraordinary 3 years long journey... a journey so big that it didn't make any sense... a journey that, against all odds, I am about to complete!
After entering South Africa, in the first lodge, 500 meters after the border, I find the most insane hospitality I have ever experienced. The owner of the lodge sees me on a tricycle, and he refuses that I pay for my stay and for my food... what an arrival in South Africa!

For this accomplishment , you deserve to be inducted into the Marco Polo Hall of fame. Three years on a Trike from France to South Africa. Mighty Congratulations.
Yves, when you get back to France via west coast of Africa, are going to do the silk road just like Marco Polo?

Fellow SAfricans, if you go that route, please support the lodge
Absolutely.....we're on it!
Definitely!
The passersby in a car said to Yves “is there anything you need?” That’s hospitality at its finest! Well done Namibia 🇳🇦 South Africa 🇿🇦. And the gentleman offered a room free of charge!
👏 Your brother from Ethiopia.
That is so true and the first car asked if he has enough water, Namibia🙌
I'm an orphan that spent most of my childhood and early twenties in trouble with the law. I was lucky that when I was 19 and got convicted I got a conditional discharge, which means that if I do all my sentence with no problems I'm not considered a felon, even though I got convicted of a felony. 5 and half years of probation and I finally got that behind me, took me most of my 30's to figure out what I wanted to do. I rode my bicycle across the USA in 2012 and have never felt so alive. At 45 i'll be getting my first passport in a week and am so excited to see the world on bike! Thanks for this content Yves, its truly is a motivator to keep saving so I can experience this! I'll never have a family or own a home, but i'm determined to live the life of adventure! Happy New Year!
Wow well done! You are one strong person go chase your dreams wishing you all the best from another 45 year old who travels a lot 😅
Tell us your UA-cam channel that I can be a subscriber. Good luck to start your journey. I saw a video of South Korean girl rides her bike around the World too. She spent about 11 years on the road and now back to her country. She does not have many video on her channel, so she does not make many subscribers.
@@jonnysmith1516 this is the channel im gonna do my trip on. Thanks for asking. I'm working and saving right now so I don't have a lot of time for doing over nighters. But once I start my trip im gonna upload on a schedule.

This is a big moment for you Yves and all of us who've been following your journey. The hospitality you received in Namibia was overwhelming, but South Africa seems determined to hit the ball out the park right from the border. Congrats.
We call it ubuntu in SA😊

Congratulations! You achieved your first objective: traveling from France to South Africa.
Yves, thank you for taking us on this journey with you! I first found your channel as you were making your way through Kenya (where I want to visit) on your way to Uganda (the only African country I've been to so far). I've told at least 50 people about your channel and the adventure that you're on.
Your videos are unparalleled for those that are interested in understanding what it's truly like to travel across country. When I was in Uganda, I traveled from Kampala to Fort Portal and surrounding areas. It was a blessing to watch you travel down the same roads and reminisce about my own happy time there. I haven't found anything else on UA-cam that so accurately gives the flavor of the experience.
Seeing you cross the border into South Africa is an emotional experience! What an amazing accomplishment! Yes, watching the journey is informative and entertaining. But it is something much more than that. It is a call to action - a call to good health, adventure and expanding relationships.
We live in an era when it is easy to become isolated and even lost in our devices. So many people today are stuck behind a screen at work and stay stuck behind screens in their free time as well. But there you are showing the world that there are rich and meaningful experiences awaiting those that will take them.
When I was very young, I would see a hero like Indiana Jones go into the jungle or the desert and have amazing adventures. Stories of bravery and adventure are a vital inspiration especially for youngsters. It's much easier to leave the nest and soar high if you have the chance to observe someone else do the same with great success. I believe that's what your videos also do and why you have so many friends cheering you on. I have a drive to meet new people and explore the world that is baked into my essence but still get distracted from that objective. Watching your journey is an inspiration to stay focused on getting the most out of life by creating opportunities to expand my horizons.
To anyone watching these grand adventures, go! These phones can either be a window to the world or a trap. Don't live out your days merely watching others, like Yves, do great things. Go! It doesn't have to be Africa. It doesn't have to be for 3 years. But find your own adventure. Go! Don't wait until you age out and regret not seizing the opportunity. Go!
karibu kenya yetu mr Stephen
@@EvalynLyimoThank you! I am excited to go! I have met many people from Kenya and they are all wonderful!

Seriously dude! The sense of adventure that i get from this journey of yours is just life saving to me. Im at the place in my life where this kind of thing is not possible right now but seeing you do this once a week gives me hope and takes me there to africa. Godspeed!
🇿🇦 is a diverse country, slowly getting over the horrors that happened in the past. We are a loving, happy, kind, bunch of people. Welcome and enjoy.
Yeah but much less safe now. Very very much. When I lived there I never gave my security a second thought. No barriers, barbed wire. Freedom comes with a price.
What horrors?

Yves, your photography is getting so much better. The way you captured the landscape was super epic!
Ya, I have loved his exploits, but what has shocked me is the scarcity of animals. Even just 30 years ago those landscapes would have had all kinds of animals in them.

I couldn't imagine a better welcome to South Africa than what the Portuguese guy offered. What a journey! Congratulations for making it to SA.
Alan, I think that chap was a coloured man. He spoke Afrikaans to the ladies & he has a Cape/Afrikaans accent. But who cares, he was extremely hospitable & that's what's important.
Welcome to South Africa. We wish you a wonderful and safe travel to Cape Town. I will meet up somewhere with you somewhere to give support.

That's truly inspiring! Yves' journey is a testament to the power of determination, resilience, and an adventurous spirit. Traveling on a tricycle from France to South Africa over three years is no small feat-it's a story of grit and courage that resonates deeply. Watching his experiences unfold and seeing the world through his eyes is both humbling and motivating. Yves, your journey reminds us that no dream is too big when pursued with passion. Keep inspiring the world, and know that you have fans cheering for you all the way from Kenya!
Shout to me in your next video please please

I can imagine how awesome was your feeling reaching the last country for this part of the journey. I believe we, your followers, can understand. I've been watching your videos since you were in my country Lebanon, though you had a bad experience there, which doesn't reflect the majority of Lebanese. I guess such journeys enriches your experience with its ups and downs. What you did was amazing. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. See u in ur next videos. ❤
Thank God am part of your journey as you make your last steps into South Africa.
👍🌎Yves congratulations on the South African milestone. You are the most deserving UA-camr even if the number of your subscribers does not represent what you deserve (you should have at least 1 million) for what you do. You are living the life dream of many, my first, who do not have or did not have the balls to undertake. I am an Italian of 52 years, too many unfortunately now for a journey like yours so I follow your videos maniacally, and I was moved to see you reason after the South African border in imagining perfectly what was going through your mind after three years of great sacrifices, efforts, inconveniences, dangers and thousands of Km. You are a great person congratulations for your tenacity, you are an excellent example of a human being not only for the physical effort but above all for how you relate to the people you meet on your journey. Thank you for making us participate and again many well-deserved compliments and I wish you many future satisfactions.
Ciao Fabrizio
