When Mark Knoffler says he's been on stage with you and had been blown away by your playing, that's when you know you're good
SAW Eric with Mark at Albert Hall in 80s, Eric played Mark's songs no problem ,Mark struggled to play on some of Eric's tunes, they did a great show but Eric was so relaxed his superb playing seemed effortless.
Did he ever play with Jeff Beck?
they were both in Yardbirds but not sure if they overlapped.@@stuartevins613

Mr Clapton has won my respect in every way. Not only as a musician. But as a person. A person That lived a far from perfect life in the spotlight. When his documentary came out, it showed him in a horrible place , saying horrible things, yet he faces it, he doesn’t seem to hide from his mistakes. Respect
I laugh at people who call him racist 😂 . He was outspoken during COVID regards vaccinations , but he suffered a lot of pain after getting one . I've been left with one arm after the doctor injected me too high on my left arm and has left me in pain and discomfort 2 years later . Although I had three further jabs , I'll never get another .
Yes he's very open ,humble guy.3 60s guitar legends -him ,Peter green and obviously Hendrix, I admire all what Eric has survived from .

A female friend of mine produced 3 cuts on a compilation album with Eric Clapton, Adele and Michael Mcdonald. She is the daughter of someone who at one point was a household name and she's parlayed that into carving out a stellar career as a producer.
During the Clapton session she was forced to ask him to play something slightly different that was a bit out of his zone. After what seemed like an eternity he responded, "Sing me what you want me to play." She did, he did and all was well.
About a month went by and she gets a call on her mobile from a UK mobile number. She anwers, "Hello this is ****, whos is this?" "Oh hello luv it's Eric. I just listened to that track we did last month. Wanted you to know you made the right call. Keep your pecker up because you're a good producer." Her reply was, "Thank you very much, I appeciate your vote of confidence. Btw, you're a pretty good guitar player yourself." After what seemed like and eternity again Eric suddenly burst out with a hearty gut laugh and said, "You're cheeky and I love it. Talk soon, Luv." She says he calls her about 4 times per year since. She's very much in demand now and gives him all the credit.
I bought an old Strat from a pawnshop in 1971 after seeing Cream in Chicago in 1968 I wanted to be Clapton, but so did everyone else…it turned out to be a 1954 Strat number 0262….Thank You Eric! For everything🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

The thumbnail was very enlightening. I had no idea Eric could play left-handed. I now have even more respect for him.

My introduction to the world of rock and blues began with the work of Eric and Jimi and other guitar greats in the 1960's. Claptons legacy will be remembered for many years to come and his best work will stand the test of time without a doubt. I can thank him personally for motivating me at the tender age of 10 to pick up an electric guitar to try and discover his magic formula.
Cream was an awesome group not only for the 60s IMHO, far ahead of their time. Ginger was a monster one drums, Jack a wizard on bass, well, and Eric, you all know, just a god on Fender guitar. Cream is still one of my favourite band of today..And btw, this documentary is just fantastic. Nobody describes Eric better than Robert Cray does. He puts down the essence of Eric's genius: Its adherence to style, beauty, and most of all, pure simplicity

Really enjoyed this documentary. An honest and sometimes unflattering picture of a complicated and gifted man. I have one criticism...the name JJ Cale was conspicuously absent. JJ and Eric had a long and warm friendship that deserves mention. The album "Road to Escondido" featured JJ and Eric together, and was released shortly before JJ passed away, and is worth listening to.
That album introduced me to JJ. What a great guy and guitarist, and my favorite Clapton album.
Well, better late than never! LOL! I've been a big JJ Cale fan since the mid 70s. Sounds just as good today as he did back then. I had been waiting for 30 years for Eric and JJ to do something together.@@taxationistheft711

The thing about the interviews with Eric in this documentary, and others I've seen, his his honesty. He doesn't put on about how good he his, instead he questions the fact that there are very few who rise to his level, when he seems to not think he does.

Oh yes by far a gifted gifted gifted, man. But he's a despicable despicable human being. And he did far more than take off with George Harrison's wifehe ruined a lot of women's lives and let's not forget he left his own son-in the hands of a negligent caretaker.
Was and is a pig.
He's not a good person. Gentlemen that's not the word I would use for him.
Eric Clapton is a gifted musician. Probably one of the most gifted that ever lived. But he's a despicable human being .
He has used women for many many years while using drugs.
Even while not using the drugs.
Even after he got clean he thinks throwing money at the problem and opening an elite rehab center on an island only for the elite, fixes the years of damage he caused.
Trust me, many of his fans worship him but many know what a vile insipid pig he was & It wasn't just a case with George Harrison's wife it was so much more than that.
And yes, I have room to talk, I'm in recovery I used for years myself. I never came close to doing some of the things that he did I never even thought of them.
And yes I've been judged too so let's not go there.
He's awful, he's far from a gentleman. And honestly I guess I'm no lady either.
Thanks for the memories
Being a guitarist since the age of 11.. I'm now 62 years old..i can truly say that Eric was and is one of the mount Rushmore of guitarist in my opinion..I mean there have been alot of great great players and certainly players of greater technical abilities than Eric...but any real player that is a serious guitar player knows that influence is of a far greater importance than technically ability...and when you get into talking about influence Eric Clapton is at the top...for me personally he is up there wirh Hendrix who in some people's minds is at the very top of the list of influencual guitar players... when i was growing up in the 70s Eric was like a chameleon...he was a bluesman but yet he could be a pop star and i think that was just the way he was on a personal level... never sticking around any genre for an extended amount of time..and for me that what really has always been very appealing about his playing and song writing...🎸🎸🎸
Well stated, my friend.

YOU AND ME BOTH. You know how crazy everyone became when the Beatles showed up in 1964? Cream created the same impact with me that the Beatles did for everyone else. Beatles were good, but it was pop. The Rolling Stones created Satisfaction in 1965. I thought that fuzz tone on the guitar was really cool and the Stones were the coolest band, not the Beatles. Cream broke the mold and created progressive rock. Disreali Gears just blew me away. I too Thought Eric Clapton was really something. Psychedelic rock, acid rock was invented. Cream had as big an impact on rock music as the Beatles. And then came Hendrix. What can I say, he's proof that there is life on other planets and that he was left here by mistake. lol
Legend....
Eric Clapton has a song for every feeling that someone could have. He is touching very deeply a person's soul however a someone feels. Just listened to this interview with Eric Clapton discussing The Band and Robbie Robertson and RFK jr on "Inside The Music" and what a rare experience--oh my goodness! I grew up listening to the Band and Bob Dylan and JJ Cale and Jessi Winchester and John Mayall and Eric Clapton and Van Morrison and Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna and Joni Mitchell... etc, etc. Great to hear some discussion regarding RFK jr--we definitely need an alternative to the corporate status quo.
Sounds like we have similar backgrounds. I saw EC on 9/16/23 in Denver, the last North American stop on that tour, and 2 days later the he did an RFK benefit show that was rather last minute at someone's residence in Los Angeles. Where he resides part time in Columbus, Ohio, he's got a solid interest in US politics.

I hate the saying "Clapton is God". He is not God. He is the penultimate player of many era's. His skill and style are unmatched. He is a fixture and fixation. In the top three for sure. Hopefully he will see that GOD has given him many, many gifts and such influence. Love Blind Faith and when he later joined with Steve Winwood to tour with.

ROBERT JOHNSON....THE TRUE VOICE OF LIFE...
The film is good except for the anachronisms. They explore his work with the Yardbirds or Mayall interspersed with videos and playing from the 80s and 90s. Clapton’s canon of recorded music is broad enough to play music from the era you are talking about.
An old fan misses the old stuff, everybody knows the things from the 90s and also the cream stuff
But what about the late sixties the early 70s
Derek and The Dominos, Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs, is my humble option the best album of Mr. Clapton's career. Like him, dislike him, it doesn't matter. As a work of music it has to be in your top ten of all time.
Big Bill Broonzy is cited WAY MORE often by English musicians than by American ones where he is far down the list of players who are admired here. Not sure why unless he relocated or played there early on. yeah i just checked that's the reason!
His style during Cream was a bit more freewheeling, wild, and interactive. He reacted to the great rhythmic diversity of baker and bruce. In contrast, later rhythm sections sounded dull, boring. I think Eric had more fun with Baker’s rhythms.
Peter Green was the better player and singer because of more feeling.
Clapton survived heroin and alcohol.
Green was ruined by LSD.
Peter Green probably would have been affected by mental illness, LSD or not.
Rubbish . Greeny was brilliant , but he was no Eric .
Good documentary , until it jumps from 461 ocean boulevard(1974) - Tears in Heaven (1992). Nothing of importance inbetween, apparently.
