I've had this bar for a couple months now and couldn't be happier. I happened to stumble across Giant when searching for open trap bars. Great bang for the buck and their customer service so far has been excellent!
What is it like having the 4th best squat in the family now? Congratulations on your new addition and good luck with the full time pivot for the channel.
What a time to be alive. When I was looking for an open trap bar, Intek was the only one who made a rackable version. Kids these days have it easy. Now get off my lawn. I need to drive my red Corvette to CVS.
Great point about balance during the lift! That's way more important than whether the bar tilts forward when it's just sitting on the ground not being used (like some other reviewer always mentions). Details like this are important to the credibility of the review.
Great Review. I researched Giant Lifting, they're located in Washington State, 3 hours away. Looks like I'm getting New equipment with your discount. You're the best.
Never even heard of this company. I've been looking at the Rep bar and the new Titan bar as options to add to my home gym. My current trap bar is a cheap $100 Amazon special I picked up at the start of the pandemic. Been looking to add an open bar so have a few more options in my training (mainly farmer's carry and lunges). Looking forward to warmer weather and training outside again. It's fun to change it up and do some sandbag, sled, and carry training outdoors.
Welcome back! Thursdays weren't the same without you! Thanks for highlighting a company I've never heard of with a product that you make look pretty tempting!
Cool you found them , I drove past their store everyday and never noticed them till last year. Good prices there , looks like it would get most people by
I did receive the bar and I do like it quite a bit. It is very good quality for the price. I made one change which I informed Giant on that they might want to change as well, and that’s the screws used to attach the loading pins. The Allen screw heads strip fairly easily. I bought 10mm x 1.50 hex head class 8 screws. 3/4” long, and it is flawless. Bar is well balanced, and I love the knerling as it is just right. Totally worth it.
I to have this bar in transit to me. $303 all in. I researched quite a bit. Wanted a bar that was more in line of the 50lb. area, with decent quality. I have heard good things on this one, and at $100 less than the rep, it’s a no brainer. Also, customer service has been awesome and very responsive.
Chose this bar over the Rep, love that it’s solidly built and cx team at Giant has been great! I love that it’s 45# , $100+ cheaper, and great build quality that I will pass on to my son (when I’m dead😂).
We will have some replacement handles here shortly for the V3 if you decide you want fixed handles. They will be $40 with shipping included. They’ve been delayed, but are finally on the way! Glad you like the bar!!
@@GiantLifting Fantastic news! Your CS is as awesome as your products; you were able to custom quote and ship to Canada for me even pre-paying FedEx the import fees. Might save the handles for a road trip to your neck of the woods to...
Great review! This is definitely a solid bar. I’m probably going to replace my Rogue TB-2 with the Rep version based on the foolish notion that I’ll remove the handles and use it as a cambered bar 😂
This looks like a solid open trap bar. I just wish they weren’t so long, I get it’s for loading a ton of plates, but it’s more difficult to move around my gym and is a downfall if you have a smaller space.
Picked this bar up locally and couldn't be happier with it for the price. The knurling is outstanding. Mine feels a little more aggressive than my Rogue Ohio Power Bar but maybe it's just denser PPI.
It's definitely denser but more shallow. I compared it to both my OPBs and a bunch of other bars. Knurling is a bit relative, you get used to what you use so I wouldn't quality this as aggressive but I'm also used to Texas Power bars and the Ohio Deadlift bar
@GlucksGym you might want to have Giant send you a new set of handles. I just watched again and the knurl in your photo doesn't look like mine. Mine is a mountain knurl or very close to mt.
Could be two reasons there. I couldn't remember which pic was which as a photographed all the handles a had but say zoomed I could've posted the wrong one. Or, I technically have an earlier set so maybe they made it even more aggressive. I'll have to ask. Got your email, send the pic I'll look.
Nice, this is almost identical to my blackbox trap bar. It just has the fat handles switched, and the yare extra fat. And the Knurling on mine is very aggressive, which I like. Excellent bars, would definitely recommend to anyone who wants a good open trap bar. The build in jack is way more useful than expected. I'm wondering if IU could buy another pair of their handles and fit it on mine, because I want to ditch the fat grips and make both the same.
I have no use for a trap bar other than deadlifts, so mine is single purpose. I prefer to bench with a Kadillac Bar or straight bar and squat with an SSB or straight bar. Dumbbells are used for lunges, but I could also use an SSB bar for lunges too.
One small thing but those sleeves look like regular decorative chrome on the Giant. Hard chrome has that dull matte finish similar to stainless steel. Which, by the way, REP's handles are stainless steel and the giant's are either chrome or zinc. Then you've also got the contact point with the jcup being powder coating, which is bound to wear away over time versus hard chrome. It's those small details that add to the cost but overall longevity.
I thought the same thing about Giant's sleeves and spoke to them about it several times but was told it's hard chrome 🤷 Rep's bar is the better one overall as I mentioned in the video but for many who don't need a trap bar to do a ton this is still a great value.
nice review! was not aware of this company before, will check them out. I know the Camber bar feature comes across as a little extra for some people, but it is something I would actually really like to use and I wonder how well Giant would compare to Rep for that aspect
This bar is almost perfect except for a really obvious design problem that makes the handles incredibly prone to spinning/rotating. The method of mounting effectively puts the handles on an axle and with slick interfaces makes them very likely to rotate. While this can be managed (at least so far) by using lock washers squeezed in between…this seem like a very bad design with a hokey remedy. Future versions NEED some level of interlock between the frame and the handles. I continue to worry my handles are going to spin on my max lifts…which tempers my confidence in this bar.
Are you going to do a comparison vs the new Titan open trap bar? I haven’t seen the Titan one go on sale since it’s so new but when it does, it will probably be in the same price range if not cheaper.
They're very close in price. Haven't decided. People mostly commented yes to review it when we asked but I feel like we can already see a version 2 coming
Have you discovered a preference or a benefit to Reps square shape vs the tapered shape of the Giant bar (easier to hold while shoulder mounted? /Benching grip width / general storage etc...) ?
The center ring on the handle I think is quite importnat. If you miss catching the middle, the bar can sway back and injure you (unlike a barbell that can't go through your thighs). Saw it happen when someone was pushing a heavy set
Have the REP bar. Love it--except those wide 27" spaced handle spacing. To REP's credit--they are sending me the narrower 25" spaced bars at NO charge! Wow. That said, I would jump on the Giant bar here with no qualms. I also just now see this bar is sold out. Was shipping free? All shipping on the REP bar is.
When it's loaded on the floor in the lifting position will it sit balanced or does it tip to the closed end? Good thing I'm so good with words or that question might not make sense!
Wynie is 5'6" and hasn't complained but at 6' I've never had issues with Titan's at 23". If you're going with Rep I'd probably go narrow or standard (25") but you should be fine with Giants as well.
Best high value open trap bar out there that doesn't sacrifice function?
Yeah... Gluck has a knack for that happened with my bench last November 🤣
And my rep bar just showed up also ordered that in Nov....Gluck stop taking so looooong.
Love to see other companies putting out value products (price to performance). Competition is the best thing for the home gym consumer
