  • @JonathanTReviews
    @JonathanTReviews 2 роки тому +4

    Thanks for getting this out quickly and the always entertaining, informative reviews. I, like many, agree with your assessment that their biggest misstep seems to be the chosen handles for the standard width. It's unclear why they didn't leave the overall width of the bar the same, but include the narrow (i.e. normal/typical) handles as standard. You'd still get the option to go for wider grips but without turning off many people that we're having to wait for the extra handle options and spend more to get them. It's still a bar I intend to add, I just don't understand that decision. Cheers

    Thought about it but after comparing it with my standard trap bar, the only feature I would probably use is the built in jack. The length is negative for me with my limited gym space. In a year or two when all the options are sorted out I suspect this will be the best value in open trap bars, especially for home gym users. But it feels like they rushed a bit to get this to market. I was going to get one of these until I realized just how wide it is. Since Kabuki is local and has all the customization options you could ever want (I went with the narrow brackets and added a 1.5” handle set), I got impatient and went that route.

    Loved the video. How easy was this to load and use as a yoke? • @GlucksGym

      @@bootsandbraces75 I've tried using a barbell with lengths of chain instead of the spud straps. The chains are less expensive than the spud straps plus I'm around 6 foot tall which according to the reviews I've read takes me out of the sweet spot for the spud straps. My problem with using the chains(the spud straps as well) is when I make the turn at the bottom of my driveway I have to be careful not to take out my ankles or shins with the weights as they swing. I'm wondering what anyone reading this thinks about using a simple cambered bar as a yoke instead? I realize you can't set it down like a true yoke but your body(muscles) don't realize that as you are using it. It would just be a matter of setting up my portable uprights on the driveway.

      I think I accidently walked into that bar so many times that I've started to dislike it. It's like it has it out for me, definitely not my fault... But no, as silly and sometimes crazy as I look in these videos and b rolls I'm very careful and haven't hurt myself with any of this stuff. As long as you're smart about it you'll be fine.

    Did you get the rotating handles in yet? Looking for a review on them, I'm not too sure which handle to order with this bar...I'm 5'10" mainly looking to just deadlift with this bar, I feel like the narrow or standard would be ideal. Thoughts?

    • @GlucksGym
      @GlucksGym  Рік тому +1

      We've got all the sets of handles. I think if you're just deadlifting then you're right, standard (that's what we use) or narrow. If you think you'll lunge or try other movements then I'd stick to the standard.

      @@GlucksGymthanks! That's a good call-out about lunges and the narrow handles, I never thought about that. What is the advantage of the rotating handles?

      Various grip thicknesses since I don't really train grip strength I haven't used them much. They're also pretty heavy

    Is the point of it being rackable just to do camber squats? I have limited space and was considering going for one of the more compact 56" to 59" trap bars but don't want to miss out on something I didn't think of.

    • @GlucksGym
      @GlucksGym  2 роки тому

      Bench, squat, floor press, rack pulls there's all kinds of things you can do since it's rackable. Whether you will or not is another story but the options are there.

    Great review
    Very informative
    I have mostly REP equipment so I might be a little bias but it seems they hit a triple here, with different handles to make a smaller side reach, it seems they will have a homerun

      It's a great bar and I appreciate the kindness of your comment. Agreed, I'd like a standard width on the handles but besides that this is a very well done bar and something they'll address with the handle options.

    I've been binge watching your videos like it's a new season of stranger things. Love the content for the information and the humor! I've gotten strange looks from my wife when I literally laugh out loud watching gym review videos.
    I'm currently designing my home gym in a 150 square ft space. With the limited space, I'm looking at PRX's foldable rack. Any chance you might do a foldable rack review or do you have any opinions of PRX's products? Thanks for all the effort you put into in making these videos!

    • @Alex_Piazza
      @Alex_Piazza 2 роки тому +1

      I had thought about a PRX when I was designing my gym but ultimately decided against it. The single biggest question I think you have to ask yourself is do you require the ability to fold away? and will you actually utilize that? And I truly mean think hard about it. If yes, then I don't think there is a better option for fold away. the rogue/titan style is more work and can be weird to setup with a slope floor of a garage. If the answer is no, the rogue/titan are cheaper and one time set and forget makes it worth the savings. I do think for about the same price you can setup a half rack that just has more overall functionality over the wall mount. Just my 2 cents.

    I'm not sure what image was more disturbing - watching you floor benching with the bar following a direct path over your face (wow - lol )or you doing bench presses with a thumbless grip with a bar that has zero gnarling ( do we need to do an intervention with you ? )I bought the Eleiko Oppen deadlift bar a year ago because cutting up my shins while deadlifting twice a week was becoming a point of discussion when I wore shorts BUT the problem with it is the handles and that is the same issue with the pre-existing similar bars as you mentioned . We have different arm length and body width - that isn't an issue when using a barbell as we simple move our hands according but with a fixed grip open deadlift bar -we must conform to the bar restrictions .. The best open trap bar will be the one that has EASILY adjustable handles to be moved in and out depending on the user and also two sets of handles ,one high and low so you can flip the bar if you want to start the deadlift lower or higher . As far as all its other uses - we seem to try to re-invent the wheel it seems .. Using the bar for neutral grip exercises is fine I guess but don't we use dumbbells for that purpose ? It can do so much -but can it core an apple ??
