Legend has it that Larry made a deal with the devil. Nobody knows what Larry got, but the devil learned how to shoot 3’s.

Something I have noticed in so many of the interviews about Larry or with Larry himself is that he never calls any of his coaches by their names unless he says coach first. Not even his high school coach. He shows respect to the people who helped him get to where he is as a person today.

I saw my high school coach about 5 or 6 yrs ago. I was about 45 yrs old. I recognized him, but wasn't sure. As soon as he confirmed that he had coached that team, i immediately called him coach for the rest of the conversation, because that's all i ever called him

Jordan picked Bird over lebron as the greatest small forward. Jordan had a rule for his teammates when playing Bird, “Not a single person. Not one word. No one talk to Larry Bird”.

While in college Larry's team was playing mine. We heard they had a future all American on their team so during warm ups we tried to guess which black player he was. Man were we wrong! He beat us and set an arena scoring record! Really enjoyed your reaction. Peace from Northern Michigan.

Even Jordan was 0-6 against Bird in the playoffs and Bird was 19-11 against Jordan in the regular season! Bird was an assassin!

It's just a poor quality video tape. TV's were quite sharp in those days, but digital recording didn't exist, so the resolution wasn't what it is today. Even the best video tape recordings you could make at home weren't as good as the original broadcast, and they would get worse with each copy.

Watching Bird shoot in that first three point contest is like watching a machine. Reminds of the great Secretariat winning the hardest and longesst race in the Triple Crown by 32 links. Both were phenomenal moments in sports history.

New subscriber. Larry Bird is Jesus here in Boston. They played a whole different game. Playing rough, no fouls, no big dramatics, playing hurt (broke his CHEEKBONE in a game, then came back out when the game started going bad and came out swingin. TOUGH. AS. NAILS.

The TV picture was clear and sharp when it was aired back in the day. The tape it was recorded on has degraded over the years. Just didn't want you to think this quality of picture was what we had to watch back then. Sometimes we had "snow" on the screen if we were using an antenna and didn't have good reception, but otherwise the picture quality was good.

I think most of the greats have that thing in common, that if they are having a bad night and someone is dumb enough to trash talk them, they just switch gears and dominate.

  • @PatrickORourke-yz3xn

All three stars; Magic, Larry and Mike - the trait they shared most was competitiveness. Larry needed extra incentive during the season, because he had to have a reason to push himself when the game was not really competitive. Same with the trash talk. It was specific and directly stating, "you don't belong on my court." That meant he had to refocus and take care of business. Both Larry and Mike were ruthless about winning and took no prisoners. Mike would basically invent a transgression against him to get a refocus on shredding somebody. Magic was more vocal about showing respect to other players - he was a showman, as well as a special player.

Thing with Larry is, whatever he faked doing the other player knew he could and would actually do, so they couldn’t afford NOT to react to the fakes. I saw a play where he started what looked like a jump shot only to pass before actually shooting while in the air. You really couldn’t presume anything was a fake.

One of the Pacers stated that when he was there coach, he walked to the court when the team was doing practice drills and just started shooting three's all in front of them.
He made 10 in a row before going back to the side and sitting like he ain't done nothing!

Larry Bird never lost a 3 point contest. And the last 2 he would make it close to challenge himself. That last year he needed 8 out of 10 including the Money Balls just to win the last one. 80% on the last 2 racks. That's what Larry Bird was like, he was always challenging himself all the time!!!!!

I was a teenager living about 40 miles south of Cleveland. I was a huge Cavs fan but Bird was my favorite player. My dad asked me if I wanted to go to a Cavs game and I can chose the game . I chose to see the Celtics and Cavs. To this day I remember being amazed by just the pregame shoot around. Bird was just flipping shots up from all around the court without looking. Nothing but net. Thank you for the video.
