Really enjoying your Bird reactions, & the respect you have for my favorite player of all time! Would like to see you react to his 50 amazing assists, NBA players explain how Larry Bird was the biggest trash talker, a lot more informative than this one, and my all time favorite, A courtship of rivals, with Magic Johnson & Larry Bird......it is a long video, so I notice many reactors, do it in 3 or 4 parts Thanks! 😊

Best sports documentary I've ever seen. The Magic bits are great but when you see Larry's story, his home life and upbringing and especially when they get into his dad, you can't not love and be inspired by the dude. I say this as a Showtime Lakers fan, Magic being my hero when I was young. But Larry is just in this whole other category.

Bird was a stone cold killer on the court. He and Jordan are the two best I've ever seen in 40 years of watching basketball. Watched him torture the Hawks many times. Saw him hit a pull-up, left handed 3 in a charity all-star game once. That was nuts lol. "Making the case: Larry Bird" is a pretty good video to get a full grasp on just how great he really was.

They were tied in 1992, but Magic came back 4 yrs after retirement and played about 35 games with Lakers, winning 22 or so. That's about 10 games over .500 and the difference between Magic's and Larry's career winning pct was right around 10 wins when magic retired after that abbreviated 1996 season.
Magic picked up about 1/2% that year. I think their percentages are 73.9 for magic and 73.5 for Larry.
I just found an old screenshot i had saved...
Boston was 660-237 with Larry playing. The Lakers were 670-236 with Magic playing, so that's 11 wins. These are all regular season numbers.
The big difference is that Larry and the celtics did it in a division with Philadelphia winning 58+ games in Larry's first 5 seasons and even with that competition, Boston won the division in 4 of those yrs, including the season that Boston and Philly each won 62.
It's a shame that magic went back in 1996, only because If he didn't, they'd have identical win percentages and would have entered the hall of fame together

Now you need to react to a courtship of rivals documentary about how larry and magic saved the nba and passed the mantle onto jordan. Most people split it into 4 parts but its a must see for any nba fans as without these two there probaly wouldnt have been an nba. So that would have meant no kobe shaq curry lebron or any other great to come afterwards. Maybe even jordan as his rookie year was not until 1984.

From 85 - he retired, Larry played with a broken back that would lose its structural stability. It would lock up in abnormal positions. He would have to get adjustments just to be able to play. Sometimes going straight to the hospital after a game. To spend the night in traction. That's just one of the injuries that he played with. One game he came back from getting his cheek fractured & a concussion. He also came back to a game. After getting injured with a fractured eye orbiter. Which he had double vision the rest of the night. Won that game too. Guessing which of the two baskets he was seeing. Was the real one. He didn't even use any pain meds, shots, etc. for any of his injuries. Yet he was still able to dominate and put up stats. He led the league in 3 pointers twice 85,86. FIRST 50 40 90 club member, first 3pt contest winner in 86 then 87, 88. MVP 84 , 85, 86.. 2 Finals MVPs, 12 All star, 10 all NBA Teams, 3x All Defense selection. All in 13 years. It took Bird just two seasons to get his first ring. Larry turned the Celtics around his first season. From a 29 - 53 season to 61 - 21 season. His full court passes are my favorite. Under, over, right or left handed.....poetry in motion. You should check out his passing highlights video. The RE-EDIT version. There's like 5 min of his full court passes.

I never got to see Larry Bird play, since he retired a year or two before I started watching basketball on TV. It's things like this, hearing about the stuff he could do on the court, that make me wish I was just a little bit older so that I could've watched him in his prime. Didn't have any Mic on the court and the TVS never heard anything unless the reporter was telling us. Only visible on a few occasions. When they were really jawing at each other. But Larry Bird Practiced all day for Years and could shoot from anywhere on the court. Watch Larry Bird Welcoming Rookies to the NBA was Brutal and Larry Bird most iconic plus Larry Bird and Magic Johnson on the David Letterman Show That's Hilarious and you can see the Humor of Larry Bird and getting everyone to laugh. Larry is my GOAT, below is a repost that highlights why: as for what to watch, Check out the " Courtship of Rivals ", then the "DreamTeam, then the times Larry Bird was hurt and didn't quit". that last one, does not even touch on Larry's injuries.

1987-1989 only played 6 games with double achillies tendon surgery, and broke his back, In addition to a bad elbow, shattered knuckles on his dominate hand and half a dozen injuries that aren't as well known, "Larry body betrayed him" is what is repeated, what isn't as well known is just how busted up Larry was. Most of Larry's rivals knew he had some injuries, but they had no idea HOW BADLY until they shared a locker room on the Dream Team, they are all, "Damn" and every one of those HALL OF FAME players have Larry in their personal top 5, That says a awful lot.
LARRY LEGEND TIMELINE to look at the career of NBA’s greatest small forward:
1974 - Larry played high school basketball at Valley High School in French Lick, Indiana.
1975 - Enrolls at Indiana University to play for coach Bobby Knight but quits school after a few weeks and works as a garbage man.
1976 - Enrolls at Indiana State, sitting out the season as a transfer student.
1978 - ISU goes 23-9 and Bird named to All-America first team. Selected 6th overall by the Boston Celtics.
1979 - Bird wins AP player of the year, first-team All-America and led his team to NCAA Championship game.
1980 - Bird named NBA rookie of the year.
1981 - The Celtics wins the NBA championship.
1982 - The Celtics improves his record 63-19, lost Philly in East Finals.
1984 - Bird is MVP and the Finals MVP

Hey Stax, 5:14 the Brad Dourghty story is even cooler. One NBA player said it was the last few seconds of the game and Bird hit Brad on the butt with the ball, said, "fly bird", shot the shot, bucket 3, 2, 1.

It's sad today that you cant talk shit to other players... because, as offensive as it may sound, it added fun to the game, and even if the players were rivals, it was kinda of a joke... I remember Mutombo used to block people and wave his finger at them like saying "no no no"... and then they turned that into a technical... took the fun out of the game

Because of the "For Profit Prison System " trying to use me... while I'm wrongfully imprisoned in Riverhead Suffolk County NY, (which is a maximum security) because how do they try and get an intelligent white 46 year old who reported that crime of insurance fraud to take a plea agreement. BTW I grew up on both the hardwood and blacktop in NYC and taught the sport of tennis for a living for 20 years. The brothers were calling me Larry Bird, that's how I get respect while taking care of my freedom fighting. i play ball with the brothers.

Bird had that hockey player mentality as far as being tough lol .. come to think of it so did a lot of the nba in those days . Skill today is plainly much higher in the game as a whole and the stats from today are undoubtedly more advanced athletes. Indeed the league as a whole is more talented now than it ever was .. but god give me the golden age 80s and 90s nba every time . To me anyway the game was better .
