Hi everyone. I'm planning on replacing the original FMVs from the PC port of Resident Evil 4 (Ultimate HD Edition) with these ones. The game's engine is unable to render and display HD videos properly, but there's a special trainer (made by Raz0r) that can remove these limitations. I'm sure this upscale will be a nice addition to albert marin's excellent HD Project: www.re4hd.com Also, for anyone who's interested, I left a few notes about RE4's video files in the Community tab of the channel: ua-cam.com/channels/I64fp_jtv6o_tZc1Ikp1jA.htmlcommunity

@@thiagovidal6137 You misunderstood me, I'm aware that all the PS2 cutscenes are pre-rendered. When I said "real-time" I meant that they used the game's engine to render the cutscenes, even if they weren't necessarily running in real-time when they were recorded. Anyways, that doesn't change the fact that the video footage looks identical to the Gamecube's in-game graphics, and it's the reason why ESRGAN had such a hard time trying to upscale it.
@@TheGamingRestoration I get it. It's a bummer Capcom didn't take the time to better extract those cutscenes for the HD release but it seems like they are constantly losing files of old games for some reason. No organization skills. Anyway.. this is surely better than we had before... so I will take it. Thanks for your work. Is there any ESRGAN tutorial out there? I haven't look anywhere but I'm curious in what it can do so I was thinking of experimenting with it.
Oh absolutely, and it's not just Capcom, most Japanese companies seem to loose their files all the time. Same thing happened with Konami and the source code for Silent Hill 2 and 3, same thing with Sega and the source code for The House of the Dead, Square Enix also lost the 3D assets from the original Kingdom Hearts and... basically everything they made before the 2000s. It seems like game preservation isn't exactly a priority for Japanese directors. Sure, here's one I like: kingdomakrillic.tumblr.com/post/178254875891/i-figured-out-how-to-get-esrgan-and-sftgan Also check out the Discord channel: discord.gg/jkFHzGD
People asked for these specifically because the originals' bitrate was very low? To my understanding, if there are huge encoding artifacts in the video, AI can't do much about it. Is this incorrect?
That's correct. If anything, ESRGAN makes the compression artifacts even more noticeable. The problem with these videos isn't just the low bitrate, but the fact that they were recorded on a real Gamecube at 512x288 and without any form of anti-aliasing. Not only that, but most Gamecube titles are plagued with dithering due to its 16 bit color output, and when the developers tried to convert their low-depth RGB recordings to yuv420p MPEG videos, they added a LOT of color banding... which further complicates the upscaling (I used a few filters to reduce the color banding, but there's only so much I could do). To make things worse, CAPCOM decided to use a very primitive video/audio container called Softdec, which was created almost 10 years before the release of RE4 (it was mostly used on the Sega Dreamcast), and it only allows for MPEG1 videos at very low bitrates, and with a very limited set of I-frames. Alsa64's denoising model did an incredibly good job at reducing the noise from the footage without touching the textures. But even without noise, ESRGAN still needs to upscale in-game cinematics where thousands of unfiltered polygons are shaking and twitching all over the screen :P Plus, the resolution is so low that it can't even enhance details that are too far away from the camera's POV. In conclusion, considering how fucked these videos are, the results are way better than I could ever expected 😅
@@TheGamingRestoration Separate Ways wasn't even shipped with the Gamecube version of the game. It was made exclusively for the PS2 version at the time... correct if I'm wrong, but ain't this fully recorded at a PS2, since all cutscenes at the PS2 are video files while at the Gamecube are rendered on real time? Anyways, we have this mess that can't be fixed in any form... unless someone took the time to somehow learn on how to make event scripts for one of the ports of this game to allow them to be rendered in real time and record them and higher resolutions...
@@dlib89 I never said the Separate Ways campaign was available for the original Gamecube release, but its cutscenes were obviously recorded using a Gamecube. 27:00 I wonder what exactly happened? As look like that Saddler would impaled Ada. But when Leon found her, she was simply unconscious and without a visible injury.
everyone loves leon’s dialogue in this game but after playing separate ways, ada also has funny dialogues haha “that’s a large thing you got there” “this dead body is sickening” (after she saw the regenerator) “this is gonna be hard to explain at customs”
Awesome, you did it! 😮👍 Now if the same can be done with the FMVs from Final Fantasy I-X, Tekken 4, Bushido Blade games, Resident Evil 1 Remake and Resident Evil 0, Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions's Intro and Metal Gear Solid 3's Secret Theater.
Remaster all the cinematics of Leon's RE4 Campaign and if you can also improve those of Assigment Ada, I would greatly appreciate it, you have a new subscriber ;).
Sally Cahill's voice is music to the ears. She really nails a seductive, confident spy and you can tell she really enjoyed voicing Ada. Sadly, that doesn't happen with Ada's new voice actress in the remake. What a total downgrade. Still disappointed Capcom didn't take the voice direction seriously.
This would've been good if not for the highly noticeable PIXELATION on the edges of the characters. If you can smoothen and enhance / sharpen the images a bit more then it'll be perfect
funny... the pre-rendered separate ways cutscene is still original even on the ps4 (maybe they retouched them a lil bit? who knows) they are low-res, grainy, interlaced... damn just how long does it take to remastered into like this one... amazing!!
So I guess Leon might know about Wesker in the remake but who knows tbh. Maybe if CV happened in the remakes then maybe Claire told Leon or maybe not lol 😂
Im sure you can get an even better upscale. you should use the Wii video files as source, since I think that Capcom tried to upscale them themself slightly since the HD versions which added a weird lining partically and made the pixels sharper than they should be unlike in the originals where it's more blurry but also less hard edges on them.
@@Phantron yes, some cutscenes already are from León campaign, but on Separate Ways have different soundtrack, and some different sound effects, but the only bad thing is the final cutscene, because that cutscene in game have the bomba counter
Im still thinking about this 'Organization'. Has it been revealed in any RE games lately? Was it 'the Family' in RE6? Or Mother Mirandas family??, Or is the Connections in RE7?
😂. Yes, the one Simmons belongs too. Obviously that has nothing to do with RE7 or 8. Those games just pretend to be in the same universe and shoehorn a wannabe Chris so you believe it. The true story ended after RE6 in vídeogames and has continued with the movies like Vendetta and soon in Death Island.
The bigger picture is this organization... So they are really shady secret society bend to remade the world in their image. But never got to see them fall apart like Umbrella
I have the all FMVs upgraded by someone manually and it looks vastly better than this. Even my Topaz Video AI software cannot touch that level of quality. If folks want them I am happy to work with you to get you the files. It is about 4GB of FMV files.
Damn, you were able to upscale the original cutscenes into full 1080p, but Capcom couldn't fucking do it? If I'm going to be honest, this is pretty amazing. If only Capcom would've did this instead of using the original, low quality cutscenes because just looking at cutscenes in the "Ultimate HD Edition", they look hella crispy and not very pleasing to look at!
To think all of this could have been solved had they simply ported it on the gamecube. Or had they made seperate ways while they were doing the main campaign. They did port Code veronica X on the dreamcast(the console which was at first it's exclusive) afterall. No wonder why Shinji ran a vendetta againts sony when the ps2 was released. Just look at it. Imagine had they ported the other two RE gamecube exclusives on the ps2. Random aplause goes towards fans who managed to finish re4 on the ps2.
@@bighead8060 PS2 version is so damn ugly and the sound is ultra poor. The ganadoes has plain textures for faces and for some reason the resolution is even lower.
Stop with the hate, please. The PS2 version is inferior, yes, but only because of technical limitations. It's a pretty good version considering the console it's on, and a perfectly valid way of playing RE4. One is welcome to prefer whichever version they do, but this gratuitous anger towards the PS2 and the 2007 PC port is ridiculous. Even then, many of us still play these ports instead of the newer ones. You wouldn't like someone insulting the games YOU play, so you shouldn't be doing it to someone else either.
ESRGAN can be much more specialized and produce better results when paired with a model specifically trained for a specific type of content. AI Gigapixel or waifu2x cannot do that.
@@jannuarytrash Of course, but Gigapixels deblur function is what would help the most here, unless this guy can make a much better model than this (I've played around with these cutscenes in Gigapixel). IMO these cutscenes are so heavily compressed its not worth upscaling at all because of the artifacts that will be generated, and denoising will just make the upscale an oil pastel painting.
@@sSpirit A.I. Gigapixel is amazing at removing noise and compression artifacts, but I'm afraid that it wouldn't make any difference with this type of footage. Read the reply that I gave to Cheappy V, I explained this in more detail.
@@SRC267 Not really. Gigapixel excels at upscaling photographs and real-life footage (and it has a really good denoising filter), but it's a bit dissapointing when it comes to videos, game textures, 3D CGI, cartoons, pixel-art, etc. ESRGAN is a bit more difficult to use, but it's way more flexible and it can give you better results.
I think what he said was "Su plaga es mucho mejor que lá nuestra" or "His plague is much better than ours", refering to their chief Bitores Mendes and how he should be able to defeat Leon.

What I mean is, these cutscenes were always pre-rendered FMV videos and never had to run in real time.. so they could have made it cleaner, but I guess they wanted to keep the visuals as close as possible to the real time graphics... as opposed to CGI cinematics.
Sure, here's one I like: kingdomakrillic.tumblr.com/post/178254875891/i-figured-out-how-to-get-esrgan-and-sftgan

“a las plagas specimen, a sample, for evidence” i love the way she said that 😂
I wish they never killed off wesker and made him a clone and he just watches all of us
That would be boring. Like having Sigma in every Mega Man X game.
If you open the Dolphin emulator, set the renderer to Software, and run the game, you'll get exactly the same graphics as the ones shown in the PS2 FMVs.
You kind of sound like a nerd lol.

I wonder what exactly happened? As look like that Saddler would impaled Ada. But when Leon found her, she was simply unconscious and without a visible injury.
He wanted to use her as bait to lure Leon to him.
I Hope cutscenes will be badass like these one in the remake
duh we are talking about ada wong.
I think the remake is gonna be good lolol I think it’s gonna be cool to see how they use the grapple hook in the game play
9:50 I liked Luis and it's a shame they killed him off.
everyone loves leon’s dialogue in this game but after playing separate ways, ada also has funny dialogues haha
“that’s a large thing you got there”
“this dead body is sickening” (after she saw the regenerator)
“this is gonna be hard to explain at customs”
6:19 "Las plagas es mucho mejor" o love these two fr
Now I wonder if they'll bring back Ada's campaign in the remake.
Awesome, you did it! 😮👍
Now if the same can be done with the FMVs from Final Fantasy I-X, Tekken 4, Bushido Blade games, Resident Evil 1 Remake and Resident Evil 0, Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions's Intro and Metal Gear Solid 3's Secret Theater.
Remaster all the cinematics of Leon's RE4 Campaign and if you can also improve those of Assigment Ada, I would greatly appreciate it, you have a new subscriber ;).
Yeah, there are some minor cutscenes that are just videos with very low Quality, like the castle one
Even in the separate ways DLC they had to include the classic bingo line
8:37 this like face it's like "oh shit we all dead"
Does anyone know the theme that plays whenever Wesker calls Ada?
funny... the pre-rendered separate ways cutscene is still original even on the ps4 (maybe they retouched them a lil bit? who knows)
they are low-res, grainy, interlaced... damn just how long does it take to remastered into like this one... amazing!!
Some of the shit this bitch says is gold
would be great to see the Freelancer intro Remastered in 1080p or higher
12:05 & 12:45 They Only Mention Each Other By Name But Never Met Each Other Which Is The Funniest Thing
Love the quality! Can I use this for my channel?
24:46 that's what she said 😅
Why are the cutscenes from Adas missions so blurry lol even on the PS4 and Xbox One
They Were Prerecorded For The PS2 Since Separate Ways Introduced In That Version Before The Updated HD Versions Were Released
Also you could actually "just" record some videos from the maingame and use them as part for the video files in Seperate Ways :) how about that?
@@Phantron yes, some cutscenes already are from León campaign, but on Separate Ways have different soundtrack, and some different sound effects, but the only bad thing is the final cutscene, because that cutscene in game have the bomba counter
Ficou muito bom, vê nessa resolução faz uma diferença grande, comparada ao original que fica borrado no meu monitor de 2560x1600.
@@SeventhheavenDK why would you say that the true story ended in RE6?
The bigger picture is this organization... So they are really shady secret society bend to remade the world in their image. But never got to see them fall apart like Umbrella
My theory is tricell umbrellas rival
I have the all FMVs upgraded by someone manually and it looks vastly better than this. Even my Topaz Video AI software cannot touch that level of quality. If folks want them I am happy to work with you to get you the files. It is about 4GB of FMV files.
Can you give us a link?
@@eymed2023 yeah I gotta dig it up but will post here.
@@cr4zyw3ld3r Good luck! We're counting on you! The fate of the Separate Ways cutscenes is in your hands!
*But don't feel your under any pressure.*
Really hope you can post them soon man, would love to see these cutscenes in all their glory.
I wish there is a model for this needle weapon 08:04
To think all of this could have been solved had they simply ported it on the gamecube.
Or had they made seperate ways while they were doing the main campaign.
They did port Code veronica X on the dreamcast(the console which was at first it's exclusive) afterall.
No wonder why Shinji ran a vendetta againts sony when the ps2 was released. Just look at it. Imagine had they ported the other two RE gamecube exclusives on the ps2.
Random aplause goes towards fans who managed to finish re4 on the ps2.
The Playstation 2 version RE4 is so awful. GameCube version is state of the art.
What’s wrong with it? I’ve not played either.
@@bighead8060 PS2 version is so damn ugly and the sound is ultra poor. The ganadoes has plain textures for faces and for some reason the resolution is even lower.
@@yurieu5872 Fair enough, I get what you mean.
What are you 10 years old lol
8:09 Wait I thought only the castle priests do this. Not the villagers.
I think you might get better results out of A.I. Gigapixel
These FMVs aren't really that noisy, they just look dirty because of the extreme aliasing, the pixel format and formats used, the resolution, the color banding...
Read the reply that I gave to Cheappy V, I explained this in more detail.
@@TheGamingRestoration Is Gigapixel best for picture upscaling out of all the upscaling programs?
@@SRC267 Not really. Gigapixel excels at upscaling photographs and real-life footage (and it has a really good denoising filter), but it's a bit dissapointing when it comes to videos, game textures, 3D CGI, cartoons, pixel-art, etc.
ESRGAN is a bit more difficult to use, but it's way more flexible and it can give you better results.
0:20 song name ??
Can they go all the way up to 4k remastered? would it even make a difference?
Is there any hidden/optional cutscenes for Separate Ways? If yes, which ones are they? Thanks. I'm missing one at the very bottom right.
So, capcom revealed several spoilers from the game just trought those cutscenes
I mean this is unlocked after the main game
Why there is no cutscene where leon fights zealots with TMP
“Las plagas is mejor que el tyrant” they just said that Las plagas is better than the t virus 6:26
I think what he said was "Su plaga es mucho mejor que lá nuestra" or "His plague is much better than ours", refering to their chief Bitores Mendes and how he should be able to defeat Leon.

Apparently, yes. I found a pack that replaces the FMVs from the 2007 PC Version with higher qualities ones, which I assume were recorded on the HD Edition. It's useful for those who prefer the 2007 PC port instead of the HD Edition. (Or if your PC can only run the 2007 version).
