Since you have Lady, Baron, Duke, and Earl I think Duchess is a great name on the theme.

Agree..name Duchess Mae Breez .barn working name...Duchess👑🐴..luv that the filly is a cross with Belgian & Suffolk Punch going to be fascinating to see the filly confirmation as she matures.. quite a interesting combination of 2 different draft breeds..especialy with the Suffolk horse populations being very low..
Hopefully pure bred Suffolk mares will have vacations with baron on the months ahead..With our spotted drafts, percherons & Belgians the Belgians were the kindest, hardest working with the carriages.. blessings for your new filly.
I agree Jim, it is very important to build trust early, I am happy for you folks , it is such a pleasure seeing the parts of your lives you folks share.I won't suggest any names as I feel a name will come to you that is appropriate for her personality. She is a beauty.
I think I recall Brenda mentioning the name "Bree" and I think that would be a very nice name for a new girl.

That foal is so adorable. I have miniature horses and have two mares due to foal in June. Last year Kacie had her 5th foal and her milk did not come down until two hours after Vickie was born. She waxed the tie before. She was open for 4 years before last years. I hold and rock all my foal as soon as they are born for the first three weeks. I put a halter on the and start the leading and backing up while setting in my chair. I will soon be 85 and have picked up a lot from watching your videos.
I like using the first letter of the mother in the Babiys name. I think she's a LOVEY Anyway she's beautiful and all the best to you all and please give Lady a big kiss from us

Lady is such a relaxed calm mother, there is something to be said about older seasoned mare having a first foal. Touching and handling the foal right away is important, some people even do quite a bit of imprinting a foal right away when it's born. I think that Brenda and Jim are doing an excellent job with the foal and Lady. It's beautiful to watch 😊

Lady and May end with "Y" there's a really obvious connection between the two of them. Also she's a May baby :)

That baby is so adorable and definitely is taking a special liking to Jim . I think it’s pretty cute how Jim is resisting kissing her but I think soon he might give in. She is such a curious, sweet little one. I love how lady is generous with her baby. And having worked around horses, a lot of my life I can confirm it is much more preferable to have a horse socialized . Jim and Brenda always do the right thing.
So glad that all went well for Lady during the birthing process and that both Mare and foal are in good health.
It's going to be a long wait for all us viewers, but I can't wait for videos of the young one commencing her training.

Jim is never going to kiss her on camera! But he sits on an upturned bucket in the pen, probably for hours, watching, dreaming and planning. Cuddling and imprinting on filly's terms, she comes to him.

Duchess! It is a testament to your bond with Lady that she lets your near her and her foal. Trust is paramount.
It is vitally important to imprint a foal with human contact in those first hours. It makes an enormous difference in their acceptance of humans as a trusted part of the herd. It makes training so much calmer! Congrats to the winners!
I dont imprint and do not interfere in the birth if there`s nothing wrong. I stay away, but nearby and in reach for the next days. Once the mare comes over, then I will pet and play with the foal if she allows. The mother teaches the foal, and she will teach him or her about humans, I don`t worry about it. All the shires we got were done that way, and they are so social even people with horses find them social and well behaved.
TL:DR I have no purpose to imprinting in first hours or even first day. I have seen zero evidence of early imprinting with that breed so far. Perhaps other breeds, but I stopped playing with other breeds long time ago

Congratulations on a healthy filly foal. I thought Brenda calling her a “doll” you might like to consider her name “DOLLY”. I am Australian and we tend to attach a “y” to many name anyway. You will know which name to choose because it will feel right and suit her. Good luck 🎉. 🥂🍾

Just love the bonding that is happening right before our eyes. Just remarkable the love you two have with Lady & the filly. This just shows how and why Lady accepts you guys interacting so soon after birthing.

Birth is such a miracle. When I saw her blaze it reminded me of a shooting Star. Star for short , she is the star on this channel.
Since this is Memorial Day weekend some name as Daisy I think would be appropriate because we remember our loved ones by decorating their final resting places with flowers this weekend.

One day old and already she has filled out, getting plenty of milk/colostrum. You could take some more from lady and freeze it, lasts forever and might just save some foal in the future. What fun! Unusually friendly, they mostly hide behind mum.

Great care as always. This is a working farm and lady needs the comfort and confirmation from Jim and Brenda. Older cared for mares often rely on their people to give comfort to reinforce this new life is absolutely okay.

I know absolutely nothing about horses, but the filly looks so healthy. Lady seems to be a wonderful mother, patient and calm. So happy everything seems to be going so well for Jim and Brenda and Lady.
Beautiful foal and Lady is so gracious to allow you to handle her foal. Like I once told you, I had 2 mares. The one was like Lady. Nothing bothered her. The 2nd mare for about 10 days would absolutely try to take you out with those hind feet. Really had to watch her.
I still like to back up and watch Lady working the woods. Love when she squated the down, those logs were going. A truly great individual.

We use to have calves out in the pasture and in about 2 weeks of not having contact with us, they were wild and you couldn't get near then! Brenda has it, name her BRE! That's Short & Sweet!
Mother and filly doing so well, good to see and the anatomy (biology ?) lesson was interesting. Maybe its good to wait a few days and see if you can find a name that fits with her character or one of her attributes.

She is so nice and yes I imprinted every one of my foals and they were just more trusting and gentle. She is such a sweetheart and seems to really be taken with you Jim. Brenda get in there and she will love on you too. Don't be shy foals need the stimulation and they are so much easier to handle as they grow. She will grow big pretty fast compared to saddle horses! I like the name Lilly. That's the birthmonth flower for the month of May. I had wanted to name my mule foal Ruth but I didn't figure the neighbor lady across the pasture would appreciate me yelling her name out when I hollered the horses up by name. I named her Sassy but she wasn't. She was a good girl. Oh how I miss my horses. My last one passed 6 months ago.

@@carolelonsdale6320 yes they grow old and die and are much missed. I am going to be on the search for a new one as soon as I'm over losing my last one. She died VERY unexpectedly from an internal aneurysm. When they are old and you know you have to give the last act of love to them is a different situation. But to be flying around the field one day and dying the next comes as a shock. I won't live my life without a horse.
Congratulations, she's beautiful. Glad to see your handling her, it does make a tremendous difference. We would even rub inside and out of their ears, feel around inside their lips and mouth, rub up and down their legs, pick up their feet and tap on them, feel around under their tails for the future crouper and rub their bellies gently from side to side for cinches. I also like the names Ruby or Rosie.

Why don't you go with Brenda's first suggestion of Bree. It sounded like a great name for the filly. Especially when Brenda already had it in her mind.
I don't know if you have a family name, Brenda, but it sounded like one that you have or are called family wise. My wife is Denise but has always been called Nicee within the family.

I used to keep a bottle of iodine in a plastic bottle with a flip top with a small hole, like a mustard/ketchup bottle and it would just squirt when squeezed. I think my vet always told me the mare's tetanus immunity would passively transfer to the foal. Nice to see happy babies. I always like to imprint asap, foal slip on and off from a few days old, broke to lead by a few weeks old, pickup feet at a few weeks. They always seem itchy so they like to be scratched. Cut my first hay today! Lots of mosquitoes!

Oh my goodness yes! I imprinted all of my babies!! They turned out to be such great horses. My mare who is 31 she have me the most beautiful foals and she was so nice and trusted me with her babies! She loved me and she liked the fact that I was so attentive and caring.!
