I just want to say thank you for providing this video. I used to be a painter for a guy. I was his only employee. I didn’t even realize until after I watched this video how unsafe he was and the way he trained me was unsafe. Painting on roofs with none of those safety things. Just the wedge sitting on shingles with the ladder on top. Nothing to prevent it from slipping. Didn’t even realize there was a harness and fall protection. Painted a mechanic garage. After cleaning the walls and all the oil on the floor my boss slipped out the ladder when he was at the very top. I told him I didn’t feel safe painting that high up with no protection and the floor was slicker than shit. It would have been me who fell if I went up there. I just started my painting LLC and painting my first house as my own boss. Didn’t feel safe getting up on the roof to start the prep work. Glad I came across your video. It may cost extra, take a little time out of my day, and require me taking up one more ladder than I wanted to. It could save my life and man I’m thankful for this video.
Love it! I have all those tools and have not put them together quite like that before. I've been struggling trying to figure out the best way to access dormer roof lines for gutter cleaning. Thank you for putting this video up!
Thank you for posting. Soooo helpful!!! Trying to decide which safety harness I want to buy. Good to see one in use. The interesting tidbits about putting the bracket -centering it and everything is really priceless. Thx.
Nice! I really want to be able to go onto the roof to take care of moss and clean the gutters but I was too chicken. But for good reason! I have never fallen from a ladder or a roof and I never want to find out what it's like. On NextDoor, neighbors are always asking around for help with their roof. If I ever got a good setup and the confidence (slight fear of heights but even bigger fear of slipping) perhaps I can make myself a few bucks as a handym.... woman? What would you call it?
Very dangerous getting up on my roof to copper tape to prevent moss growing there due to wet Oregon weather. I have had to watch several safety videos and several of them did not mention the needed the tool the Ladder Helper. Its 40 bucks for the right tool to prevent ladder from crushing the gutter. Also other poor videos did not mention as you did ithe ladder must extend at least twp hungs above roof line. Thanks for doing right. It helps to be physically fit like this guy is cause you can even hear him breathing during the video this is labor intensive.
Good set up once you get going, but still you're free styling while putting up the safety hook and stepping over the rope to get adjusted all while not strapped in. The seperated ladder is sweet though, nice to be able to move the pivot in more locations rather than multiple roof boots.
For a contractor is okay to invest on that tool. To setup a ladder on the roof as a painter I did many times was screw a 2x4 on one leg of the ladder. It was back on the 80s when we didn't have all these gadgets..
Go to the video to the minute 8:38, you'll see the black gadget to make a horizontal place to rest the ladder. If you put the ladder against the wall you're going to need to make one leg of the ladder longer. Get a piece of 2x4 or something similar and clamp it to the ladder until you level it up. Screw the 2x4 to the ladder at least in two points. Now you have a ladder with one leg longer. Make sure you screw and remove the clamp.
@@gilboston20033 ah I see I gotcha. How times have changed as well as all safety requirements. I still use some skeptical techniques on the roof running my own company. It’s just me so only my life to worry about but I’m learning. Thanks for the response

Why do you even take the safety bracket off at the end? Couldn't you just leave it in? Just wondering why roofers don't leave that in for the next time someone has to go on the roof.
So while the initial hooking of the bracket you are unsafe and need to be careful. My family got our first home this January and I am just starting to learn how to keep it maintained. I ll practice this on my shed first
Henry Yanez hmmm.. I’m not sure. We don’t have tile roofs in our area so I’ve never had to figure that one out. Maybe someone else will be able to answer that for you.
You can't overthink it or you'll never get up there. It's not fun no matter what but if you let your head get to you you're done and if your scared don't do it. It's not worth it. I've been painting for 29 years and tell my guys all the time, "if you're not comfortable don't do it". Accidents happen when you're too nervous or too confident, have to have a good mix of the 2. That's what works for me anyway.
This video might be good if I was actually starting a roofing business with all the expensive products you utilize but not for the average homeowner to Simply Get Up on the Roof and nail a loose shingle down.
So I get safety I'd like to know where the safety measures are before you get the safety harness attached to roof. I'm wondering this because I see you on roof attaching the safety equipment but no safety harness on is there a less of a chance of you getting hurt before you are attached. People pay million in insurances. Sir I'm wondering does your insurance quote you differently for the time your not attached to rope to the time you attaché it and if a difference is involved how much of one .
He should have a ladder hook that screws to the roof ridge holding an extension ladder so it lays flat down along the roof shingles, then he should have a ladder leveler/pivot tool sitting between the rungs of the extension ladder, and then he needs to put up an additional ladder, or he can get a permanent mount style leveler for an extension ladder and put a cleat on the roof. Either way, THIS is far from safe. If he really wants to get at it, he can even use a ladder's little helper or a quick-click extension ladder stabilizer.
Ok Karen 😂😂😂, I take it you haven't really done this type of work in a production in environment, yourself. Wonder why it costs a million dollars & take 16 weeks to complete in california. Basically your talking about a girl doing this work. We dont need all that.

If you give me your address, Ill come over to take you to the hospital when you trip over your safety line and go bouncing down the roof with the rope tangling you up. Im 63 and Im going a lot further uo today than the house in the video. Right after I stop at the dispensary. Sativa for that job.
Honestly not a big deal, he did it at the peak and using roof tar will easily seal that back up. If it's that big of a deal, you could always replace a couple ridge cap as well. Calm down guy
I can’t believe you screwed into a homeowners roof. That is totally irresponsible! If you feel that you really need to use a safety rope anchor, than you should have secured it to wall stud behind the siding. That way you never cause any type of leaks or void warranties on shingled roofs.
You remove screws when finished, and fill the tiny holes with silicone caulk, and sprinkle some of the roof grit that is in the gutter on it. He didn't show you the 2x4 he screwed to roof just above gutter for the ladder that the pivot box is on to not slide off of roof. And if you are putting on a safety harness, grow some balls instead, or stay on the ground.

They have leveling legs that you can attach to a ladder. It's safer. Some ladders come with it built in.

Better to use two of them. makes the ladder not rock.
You have to be safely anchored 100% of the time, not 50% because that’s the risk difference. Not a safe tutorial as many comments think
It's easy just don't be afraid to fall and it's a 1 day thing too easy
