    the camera lens makes it look much less steep than that roof is. Believe me that was a 6 in 12. very steep roof to walk on. anything more steep than that would require scaffolding or working out of a lift. I have done 8 in 12 houses but usually have a ladder on the roof to the ground. and someone standing on it.

    Since I work with nobody but myself, I'll back my truck up on the ladder so it don't kick out, or use an extra extension ladder to make it a brace. Next time I'm in this situation I'll call you up Mike so you can stand on my ladder since you're good at it. Just kidding, good video!.

    I am a very good mural painter and I am also working with a promoter who has a contracting business. I have always been scared of heights but I've been going up on the 28 ft ladder with a 20 ft pole reaching the peak of a 40 ft. House and it makes me nervous because I know that after a few minutes my arms get very tired and all it takes is that pole to sway and if I don't let go it could pull me off I had a guy helping me yesterday. He stood on the ladder today. I have nobody so I'm going to maybe use some house bricks. But thanks for the video.

    I have done this too run the ladder at 45 or 48 degrees up on my roof. Since you have a garage door, you could tie the bottom of ladder to something strong and immovable in the garage. Or shoot a 2x4 into the driveway, which owners wont like, but if its yours...
    I have also tied a 4x4 at ladder top when laying ladder entirely laying on a sloped roof to give foot room.

    you can also lay a sofa cushion where the ladder touches the roof to protect shingles. Or maybe very large tube foam insulation on ladder rails

    Mike, I have a question about painting stucco with sheen vs flat paint. I watched a video of yours a while back and I think you said only flat paint should be used on stucco to allow moisture to escape from the stucco instead of building up behind the stucco and causing a bubble or other paint failure. I recently watched a video of a painter who said semi-gloss should be used on stucco because it will protect the stucco from the elements, will fade more evenly than flat paint, will fade less and will last longer. This was in a high desert area of Arizona; the climate is very dry or arid, gets rain and light snow in the winter months and mid 90's in the summer months. What's right? What are you thoughts on it? Is it regional or weather that determines if flat or a sheen should be used or should flat always be used or......?

    • @mikethepainter
      @mikethepainter  2 роки тому +2

      Enamel does not last any less or more than flat. grades of paint are what makes it last. better binder and titanium vs chalk are what makes paint last. Stucco will absorb moisture when it rains. At the bottom of the house if the enamel seals up the water has no place to go. so it will push the paint into peeling. I figure the guy who says that really does not know what he is talking about with enamel paints.

    • @Mikefngarage
      @Mikefngarage 2 роки тому +1

      BTW I have done several commercial buildings in AZ I in Tucson. I used flat on all of them they held an even fade. IDK what that guy is saying. Good quality 100% acrylic flat on stucco will last and not fade any less than enamel. They will both last the same time.....BUT the risk of the stucco sealing up and peeling off is much higher with enamel. It is not the first time I have heard this but NOTHING to back it up. IT is just some guys theory that shiny paint is better than flat. Which has no basis. flat (solid acryilic stain 100% acrylic is the best paint for stucco.)

    When you were doing the fascia and touching up little holes with caulking, is that caulking from a caulking gun you squeeze out on the side of the bucket? Do you paint over it before it cures, I thought you had to wait hours before you can paint over caulking. Thanks, great video on ladder safety too.

    • @mikethepainter
      @mikethepainter  2 роки тому +1

      yea your right usually but this works fine for smaller holes. it will shrink. I dont do all the holes just the ones they missed. Everyone misses some holes on facia or on walls.

    • @mikethepainter
      @mikethepainter  2 роки тому +1

      another trick is use the 25 year caulk for this. the 35 tends to shrink more and pull apart. the 25 fills just fine and lasts for that. Honestly it lasts for a very long time. and never had issues with adhesion or shrinkage. Unless the facia is like primary BLUE.. or something like that with white caulk. It really just depends on what your doing. weather can also be a factor and how big what your trying to fill.

    Can you please help me. I HAVE to paint my house because neighbors complained. The problem is that I have a two story house with an attic. I bought the ladder recommended to me which is like 24’ but it does reach anywhere near the eaves of the house. How can I paint this? I can’t afford a painter.

    An easier way ive learned the 25% as an ironworker is the 4 to 1 rule. Every 4 feet the ladder goes up the ladder needs to be 1 foot back from the wall or whatever you're leaning the ladder on. To 12 ft=3ft ), 16ft=4 feet, 20ft=5 feet and so on.

      @@calittlegarden-3311 if your going to roll you should wet the stucco before you roll it. and Literally cover EVERYTHING....out 10ft all windows and take down lights. or they will get wiped out. Best to spray do all your covering then rent a sprayer start early in the morning and work hard all day you might get it all painted in 1 day (spray work) or 2 days stucco and eves. then get out your brush and do the rest.

The commercial jobs I do I cannot film because they have branding which will get me in trouble with my customers.
