    Musicians in amateur concert bands and orchestras need to understand this. Most amateur musicians do not have this awareness.

      I think it's a very natural human response to check how WE'RE doing first of all. Totally appropriate from an evolutionary point of view where it helps us to survive. But really unhelpful in a music performance situation. Since it's hardwired in, though, it takes awareness and conscious effort to overcome.

    I'm very shy as a soloist but I've found that collaborating with others really brings me out of my shell. It's such a beautiful experience when music is communal, and when musicians collaborate well.

    Thinking of the other musicians is a great stress relief machnaism for self. Move the spotlight. Will try this more often when gigs resume ! Thanks Mark.

    Drummers and bass players live this. It's a great idea to think sometimes of how to support THEM as a lead/rhythm player. Thanks for the tip!

    • @PlayInTheZone
      @PlayInTheZone  3 роки тому +2

      Absolutely! It's one of the reasons I enjoyed filling in on bass occasionally. It put me in a totally different headspace because I was covering a different role.
      As you say, though, it's interesting to take this view if you're a lead player. How does it affect what you play if you stop thinking that everyone else is there to support you and think about supporting THEM instead? You'll come up with some new ideas and insights for sure.

    So true outlook - really good for accompaniment. I was taught this a long time ago as well, and also keep it simple sometimes, keep the rhythm solid, especially if other person is soloing.

    The reverse applies if you're not playing piano or guitar in an accompanying role.
    I make the other front-line musicians sound relatively great when I play out of rhythm and out of tune and lose my place in the chord progression.

    • @PlayInTheZone
      @PlayInTheZone  3 роки тому +1

      😂 Not sure I agree with that, Graham! Out of rhythm and out of tune makes EVERYONE sound bad as far as I'm concerned... 😉

    Couldn't not have come at a better moment. Walked off a drum circle a half an hour ago. Felt like I tried to " make them sound better " but what about individuals who play without thinking of others? Nonetheless you are correct. Best to minimize or lose the idea of overly self conscious Thanks.

    • @PlayInTheZone
      @PlayInTheZone  3 роки тому +2

      Yup. People who play without thinking of others are tricky to deal with. One helpful attitude to divide things into what you can control and what you can't. If their attitude is outside your control (as will often be the case) then the best approach is to accept this and make the most of the situation as it is. But also worth thinking whether there is a helpful intervention you can make that might guide them to change their attitude.

    This is great stuff. But there's more, isn't there? About interaction, spontaneity, pushing etc. OK, a different topic and video for all that. From a bass player, and a modernist.

    • @PlayInTheZone
      @PlayInTheZone  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, there's always more... If I was only allowed to think of one thing, though - it would be making the others sound great. Love all those other ideas, though. Like you say there's probably a whole separate video in each one...

    Sir I am a complete guitar beginner. I am really interested in buying your courses . I would love hear your suggestion from you ?
    And sir do you offer any technical courses for developing good guitar techniques or is there any course that you suggest for learning the technical aspects for guitar ?
    Thank you so much for your kind service.

    • @PlayInTheZone
      @PlayInTheZone  3 роки тому +1

      I don't have any courses for developing good guitar technique. I'd recommend that you find a teacher for 1-1 lessons if possible.
      And I'd get some decent basic technical foundations before you try any of my courses. Once you have a reasonable grounding, though, Practice Multiplier might be a good course to start with.

      Sorry for the slow reply, Robert. Didn't see this until now. My Practice Multiplier course can help you get better results from your practice. My Unlock Your Performance course can help you play better in performance. Exactly how they'll help will depend on your current situation and goals (everyone is different).

    This is somehow obvious in making chamber music, or even more if you are (I am) accompanying someone. But how to reach and make reality the same idea if you are only making collaboration videos with the other musicians, not "breath the same air" in the moment? Everything becomes much more complicated.

    • @PlayInTheZone
      @PlayInTheZone  3 роки тому

      Ooh yes - that's a really tricky situation. I think there are 2 things here (I'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts too):
      i) Careful thought and planning ahead of time is going to be needed. Even more than usual because you have to make your decisions before you see the final result - you can't interact and adjust in the moment
      ii) You're going to have to accept that things are going to be harder in this situation
