  • In this video we see if we can repair this ECHO 58V Power Head I bought from FB Market Place. I paid 15$ for it as is with no battery or head. This is an older model trimmer, but is Brushless and looks like a powerful trimmer that we can even install a brush cutter on if desired. Hope you find the video helpful and thanks for watching!

grand total; 31 or so dollars for a great trimmer.
I like the shortening of the shaft idea... brilliant!

Great job on this repair! That was clever to cut the shaft back to the part that was still square, made for a nice simple fix.
You are probably right about it having been used with a brush blade. It’s common to get worn out part’s on gas weedwackers when using blades too, at least when they are used hard. People will often rev them all the way up before slamming the blade into dense grass or brush, which I could definitely see causing that shaft to get rounded out on your machine. For smaller machines gas or electric I like to use a head with blades that swivel instead of a large solid blade because it’s not as hard on the machine.

I have a question so mine turns on but then cuts off after some seconds. Any idea what it could be?

Do you have more than one battery to try. It seems like either an issue with the voltage dropping down and the controller shutting down or possibly bad connection of some of the battery terminals. The next thing that comes to mind is if the head is binding in any way or something wrapped around the head causing it to shutdown with high load/current.

Update. The squeal sound is the shaft turning very slowly. Shaft spins by hand freely. Maybe a bad switch? Other ideas?
    Thanks.

I have not seen that in this trimmer to say for certain. Typically a squel sound while not turning up to speed is a controller issue. These BLDCs are way more complex than the older brushed DC motors though. So it could be that one of the controller output transistors is bad and the motor is basically single phasing, it could be an open winding on the one of the 3 phases of the motor or it could even be an issue with the feedback hall sensors to the controller. I would check the tiny connectors for the hall sensors first and then ohm the motor windings and go from there. Best of luck to ya!

I wish I had time, I do get asked this often. I do not have a repair service at this time. I work full time+ in an Industrial job and try to have time to edit videos to post. I try to help by posting what I have found with a repair as we learn together. I don't have a lot of time left. I hope you can find someone you know that likes to tinker and hopefully after watching the video can help you out. I wish you the best of luck with yours.

@@ThriftyToolShed Thank you for sharing your mechanical skill sets clearly and generously.
Also for taking the time to fully respond as you kindly did for @MHolt above. My 58v trimmer has similar noise building; terrific to have your video as guide/insurance should fixing win over ain't broke yet.
