EGO Edger Repair
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 лют 2025
- In this video we look at a brand new EGO 56V Edger that is not rotating. I did buy this edger brand new and it was still in the box, but I bought it over a year ago when Home Depot was liquidating all EGO equipment. So that is why I do not have a warranty on the edger. It ended up being a really simple fix and it may not be a common issue, but just in case it helps someone else I will post this video. It may in fact be a manufacturing defect or oversight on many of these edgers. I hope you find the video helpful and thanks for watching!

Found this video in April of 2024. I had the same problem with a brand new edger out of the box. Thank you!!!
Wow! Crazy that the assembly issue is still common. I need to get EGO to watch the video 🤣
Thanks for sharing your experience!
Great Video. I purchase 1 edger and it worked for 5 feet. I returned it. The 2nd one run for 10 feet too. I did your fix and its now working. Thank you so much.
Short, sweet and to the point….. Great video! 👍
Thank you so much for this video. I had the EXACT same problem. The edger worked for about 10 feet before it broke. I popped the snap ring out with a small flat head screwdriver then pressed a 5/8ths socket in with my thumb until I felt the miter gears connect. I slowly spun the head my hand to make sure everything was lined up and working. After that all I had to do was press in the snap ring with the same 5/8ths socket. I heard it pop into it's grove and it was fixed
Awesome! Glad it helped and thanks for sharing.
I have the Ego edger and it has been great.
Just started watching your content today and really have been engaged with your loveing kindness to share true knowledge. i take it you are a servant of the Way, the truth and Life. I have a battery issue and seek understanding of my ego 2.5ah unit and saw your video and started learning. My battery was working great last time (months ago maybe five or less) when i charged it and put it down. ready today to use it and it is discharged (saw it discharging some time ago with blinking red lights off charger) to two bars and when placed on regular charger it has red indicator light showing and not charging. Still hoping to watch and be informed of the reason.Bless you in Yeshua's name alone.
Appreciate the the love man: bless you
Thanks man! God bless!
Thanks I have the same unit but it's been working fine for several years and now today on the last edge.. it stop working.
Time to take it apart and see if I have the same issue.
Thanks for the details
Great post, can you explain exactly what you are doing to the snap ring for an amateur like myself?...lol
Gotcha, I should have shown a ring outside of the edger for clarity. I am grabbing the snap ring by the small holes that are at each end of it with the tips of the pliers and squeezing (makes it smaller diameter) so I can press it down into the groove. It was never set in the groove correctly at the factory it seems. This allows the gears to be unmeshed . This may be a common assembly error, or it could possibly be a rare thing with a new assembly line worker etc. I am looking forward to seeing how many viewers have the same issue. Hope it helps.
@ThriftyToolShed thank you so much!...I have the same exact issue, brand new, never used and it just wasn't spinning. I assumed that's what you were doing to the snap ring so I'll give it a shot, thanks again!
how do you put the wheel back on if it falls off
As long as you have all the parts it should be as easy as putting the bolt back in the wheel? It has a carriage style bolt, flat washer, wheel slides on, flat washer, lock washer then the green knob if I remember correctly....
I have a "new" Ryobi Drill set that sat on a shelf for 10 years because of family needs relocation. I recently got it out and found BOTH batteries worthless - would not take a charge. Got a new One+ set of batteries with a new drill. he battery would work with the light but the drill was totally dead. There is corrosion on the wires inside the drill - contact cleaner cleaned most with no effect on the drill performance. So now I have two defunct 18v batteries and a drill that's driven maybe two screws in its life and now is dead. So .. do I have to dismantle the drill entirely? and can those batteries be fixed?
I would think the drill is most likely fixable. The corrosion would have to be investigated well and yes completely disassembled. The cells in the packs are most likely gone or at least many cells in the packs are most likely at zero volts and may not be safe to try to recover at this point. If they all have a charge of some level even if only .5V they may recover safely with some lost capacity in my experience. Best of luck to ya!
Glad it's fixed
My blade turns but it’s not strong enough to cut through the top layer of dirt.
That could be the same thing! Mine would spin up until loaded. As long as the blade is tight and it's not spinning. I would check the snap ring!
Have you ever repaired a dead Powerhead? It seems more difficult to repair than the chainsaw.
I have not had any issues with mine yet. I have a video looking inside of the power head, but not repairing.
@@ThriftyToolShed Yeah, I watched that video, though the issue is the controller and it seems to be a lot harder to get into. It's not a big deal though as it was under warranty so we got a new one, but it would still be cool to fix it.
same problem here.
mine worked for 4 years and now it will start and spin the blade and die within 2 seconds. then it false starts at the back like *durk, durk*
That seems to be the way these fail. I have seen comments similar to this. I have 2 of these. Mine still works, and I have not had to repair one yet, but one did start doing this a few months back. I thought I would have to take it apart and look at it. For some reason one of my weaker batteries was causing that on mine. I swapped out to one of my newer packs fully charged, and the Power head has been starting and running normal. Definitely seems to be a start-up inertia issue. Like the controller was sensing too much current and shutting back down.
👍🏼
Another deal
Batteries dead
Poor baby.
Looks like a good fix. Thanks.
